When ours died she started constantly shaking and felt very cold. A usually tame hamster, she bit me hard when I tried to touch her and died next day. They only live about 2 years, if you get one to 30 months it's unusual. 3 years old is very rare.

On the day my little hammy died, my mum said there was something wrong with her back legs. I went to check on her and attempted to pick her up when she tried to bite me. The friendliest little bundle of fluff, it was so unlike her. She died a few hours later, love her.

Since we've had a kitten, Simba, (Aug last year), my daughter's hamster won't let her handle him, he bites her really hard every time. Prior to getting Simba, he used to roam about her bed and she used to cuddle him.

We've had Nigel since Oct 2010 and we got him, the pet store said he was the oldest of the hamsters, so not sure how old he actually was when we got him.

He seems fine attacking, attacking his water bottle last night!!

I'm sorry but even though that says that, doesn't mean you shouldn't buy it. If it was that dangerous it would be taken off the shelves for good, but it hasn't been so it is fine. Like I said I have had many small rodents before and have always used that type of bedding along with toilet roll/kitchen roll and never had a problem.

Anything you put into a small rodents cage/tank etc could potentially harm them, even the exercise wheel that usually comes with the cage! I had a hamster many years ago who got stuck behind it and died.

I am not trying to persuade you to buy what you don't like and what you think isn't ideal for your pet. I am just saying that, just because there have been a few cases, that might be related to the soft bedding, doesn't mean you should totally rule it out for use in your cages/tanks etc.
