Could we all just agree there are far worse female singers than Adele or Taylor, Nicki Minaj for one..
and just for the record, I think TS is fantastic, I also like Adele but only some of her songs.

I dont know why any comparison is ever made, Taylor is a country singer/songwriter who plays stadiums, is respected by some of the biggest artists in the world and is a role model for millions of women. Adele is someone whos well just sells albums thats it, as well as swears and chews gum at award shows.
Adele may sell albums but boy when it comes to class taylor is in a totally different league.
I'm a massive massive fan of ADELE, and until speak now I was a massive fan of Taylor too, I enjoyed speak now but wasn't anything special. I've seen Taylor swift live twice, both times she was incredible, yes she did that god awful shocked face when there was a 10 minute standing ovation halfway through, but she nailed it, she really did.
I wanted to see Adele so bad but was really unlucky with dates whenever she was on tour, still hope to some time soon.

The thread isn't about comparisons, just that Adele has enjoyed another big achievement over someone who was being called the biggest star in the world by some people; which I don't believe is true though, but still worthy of being called an achievement.
I only added my own personal opinion on the two because I think Adele deserves it due to Taylor's questionable talent.

Adele is so overrated, she's a good singer but there are better singers then her out there and for me it's about quality, not quantity
Oh and Taylor's collaboration with the Civil Wars is a brilliant, far to good for the tweens who buy singles

Taylor did well to say she didnt have many big hits off this album. And as a country artist too, her success is surprising. It depends on scale, pricing and venue size for a tour. And you really have no idea about album sales, taylor has sold 24M albums, even an adele stan wont be able to find some dodgy sales figures that can claim adele has sold that many.

adele has sold 18 million of 21 and 6.5 million of 19, which equals 24.5 million, she will easily hit the 30 million mark by the end of this year
please feel free to explain who is a bigger artist than adele at the moment, if you feel you can claim taylor siwft present that argument.
just to clarify i am not a massive adele fan, just pointing out simple facts about the relative success of adele vs taylor swift

Oh yes, I know they have, but to say Taylors only been around for 5 years, she's done extraordinarily well. Adeles debut has sold more than taylors NOW, but not when it came out. Thats only because of 21s success.

Of course what's happened since the turn of the year has taken Adele's total shipped sales (19 and 21) way over 24 million and even before the Grammys boost '21' was still selling at the rate of 1 million per month worldwide (she is predicted to sell 500k copies of '21' alone next week! In the US!). Like I have said before, Taylor's figures (especially in the US) are incredible and should be very much respected. But she's more than met her match in a Brit from Tottenham with just 2 albums under her belt, both of which are currently outselling Taylor's by a pretty huge margin. .

Agreed. But my post was in response to GL claiming that Adele couldn't get near 24 million total career album sales when it's clear she has already surpassed them and with only 2 albums. And that's not even considering her absolutely huge singles sales in addition to the album sales. It's very very unusual that an artist can dominate both the singles and albums market in the way Adele has.

Does it matter? That is her opinion. It's hardly like Taylor has had little success compared to Adele, is it?
Why are some people so blind to the facts? Adele is outselling Swift right now, and will most definitely pass her total sales over the coming months.
