I have recently ordered Sky BB and In my welcome pack is says the line testing lasts 10 days. I'm sure you will know this anyway but it also says you should leave the router turned on during the testing period.

Was this speed actually 'promised' or estimated?
They always seem to quote a wide variation e.g.if I check my line with Sky it says
    "Estimated Access Line Speed: 7.0Mbps - 14.3Mbps"

I actually get 14.5Mbps with my current ISP.

All that aside your speed does seem on the low side and giving them a call may provide an answer.

    How are you connected?
    Ethernet or wireless?
Is the router directly into the main phone socket and not an extension (a big speed killer)
Have you/can you plug the router directly into the test socket?http://www.hmmm.ip3.co.uk/bt-master-socket-nte5.shtml
Also make sure all microfilters are fitted as necessary and it's worth trying different microfilters as they have been known to cause problems.

Think yourself lucky, I have sky broadband that runs at 0.5M, nothing they can do about it apparantly the distance from the telephone exchange is the problem.

It's the same for me, that is why I have Virgin for my PC 's Broadband connection

When you go into your router settings, what are your connection statistics (Line Attenuation and Noise Margin)?

Would still be interesting to see your router stats, as you maybe able to get a better speed than you're getting.

As your noise margin might be bad, which is slowing down your speed, which a simple fix your end can correct;)

Im on sky BB and at the end of my DLM, my speed was set at 8191Mbps sync, I was getting this before on a non LLU provider.

After checking the wiring in my master socket as advised here

I got sky to restart DLM and now I'm syncing at just over 16Mbps:)
    So its worth looking into;)

Entering your Line Attenuation of 56db in here
    http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php
suggests that your line is 4.1km long and that the maximum speed on LLU will be 3712kbps with a throughput of 3285kbps - which is near what you're getting now

You maybe 3.2km as the crow flies, but this isn't necessarily the way the line goes, hence the line length given on the kitz site going by your attenuation.

You dont say if you have the bell wire (terminal 3) connected or not. If you fit a BT adapter plate, it disconnects the bell wire (not needed unless you have an old rotary dial phone with bells). This is a known source of interference and will affect broadband speed - hence why BT sells the adapter plate.

Google broadband bell wire for DIY ideas.

Worked for me, by the way, I got a 50% increase in speed after the mod. Also, I have aluminium wire (60's) which does not help at all.

You have quoted the highest speed that the router may connect at.
The speed you may expect on any speedtest is the lower 'throughput' figure

The sync figure of 7552kbps is 6884kbps throughput
    Difference explained here http://ttb.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/655

As said the length of actual wiring from the exchange, based on an attenuation of 56db, is 4.1km.

As an example, my neighbours line to the exchange could follow a shorter (or longer) route than mine

For bell wire help http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm but don't bank on any dramatic improvement

i'm connected by the Master Socket i have taken off the
nte5 faceplate and the bell wire terminal 3.
from the master socket i have the filter connected and from that cable to the modem and my phone.

Which is about all you're going to get with 56db attenuation.

    To repeat an earlier post:

Actually your connection speed of 3747kbps is *slightly higher*than the Kitz tool predicts:)
