47 (N/A) Danny Stratton 6.99% (Round 1)

At 47 is Becky's love interest Danny, and I must say he's done very well for a temporary newcomer! He came in at a business meeting with Becky & Steve, grew a soft spot for Becky and recently moved with her to barbados! Although he didn't really do much he seemed like a nice character and I liked his relationship with Becky

46 (51) Fiz Stape 6.24% (Round 1)

At 46 we have Fiz Stape, she's had a pretty busy year and a small increase in ranking. Fiz started of the year pretty happy, she had her newborn Hope and was in a happy relationship with John Stape, however that soon changed! Throughout the year she found out all about what John did, and had a terrible time in her life after spending time in prison after being accused of his murders! She is back in Weatherfield now and seems to be on the right track, what's next for Fiz?

=45 (42) Tracy Barlow 7.53% (Round 1)

In joint 45th place is Tracy Barlow with a slight rise in rankings. After an awful return last year, Tracy has become slightly more bearable and has become one of the most featured characters of Coronation Street this year. Her storylines have included her trying to win back Steve and eventually marrying him, before breaking up later that day, and her ongoing feud with Becky McDonald, which included Tracy lying that Becky pushed her down the stairs and caused her miscarriage! I hate Tracy when she first returned but she's got better throughout the year, will her ranking improve next year?

=45 (N/A) Frank Foster 7.53% (Round 1)

In joint 45th place with Tracy, it's the street's resident bad guy- Frank Foster! After first appearing in early 2011, Frank has certainly made a big impression. Maria accused him on trying to rape her, but Carla didn't listen and got engaged to him, however the biggest moment for the character so far is raping Carla Connor after she put off their wedding the night before! Frank was shunned by the street after that, but was recently found not guilty at the court case after Peter & Carla's court case was revealed. Frank is set to still be a big part of the street in the next year, but it seems he might not be eligible for next year's competition!

=43 (N/A) Tommy Duckworth 7.56% (Round 1)

Next up is Tommy Duckworth! Although he had a promising start, not much has been made of the character and he hasn't really done much? He's not really had any major storylines of his own and is mostly just a background character, I think it would have been a lot more interesting had he been introduced when Vera & Jack were still around. However with the return of his dad Terry Duckworth, could he become much more of a central character?

=43 (39) Michelle Connor 7.56% (Round 1)

Joint with Tommy, it's Michelle Connor! Although I really don't like Kym Marsh, I think Michelle's a pretty good character and she seems a bit too low. Having most of 2011 off due to Kym Marsh's maternity leave, Michelle returned later and announced her engagement to Ciaran McCarthy, however that was short lived and Kym is now single again, and has spent recent times living with Carla and supporting her during the rape trial. It doesn't seem like there's much going on for her at the moment, but will that change in 2012?

41 (N/A) Karl Munro 8.25% (Round 1)

Just missing out on the top 40, it's Karl Munro. Like some of the other new characters, Karl looks to be a good character but we haven't seen much from him and he hasn't really had any major storylines. We have seen hints of a gambling addiction but nothing major yet, with Karl soon to be the joint owner of the Rovers will we start so see more from him?

40 (N/A) Marcus Dent 8.27% (Round 1)

Next up we have Marcus Dent! After a stint in 2007/2008, Marcus returned this year to be reunited with old flame Sean. This year most of his storylines have involved Sean, which includes him bonding with Sean's son Dylan and trying to adopt a baby for himself, however recent scenes have proved that he still works very well without Sean and tbh I think he's better than Sean and a better representation of a gay man With a Civil Partnership planned in 2012, will Marcus improve his ranking next year?

I cannot believe that that nice Sean has finished below murderers, adulterers, rapists, vandals and thieves

39 (55) Owen Armstrong 8.32% (Round 1)

Next up and with quite a big rise in ranking, it's Owen Armstrong. Owen was very unpopular in last year's competition and just escaped from the bottom 5, but this year he's done significantly better and was actually quite close to the top 30. This year viewers have seen a nicer side to Owen after helping Anna out and eventually starting a relationship with her, however that soon ended after he smacked Faye! What will 2012 bring for Owen?

Maybe, maybe not but he has never committed cold-blooded murder, which is what tracy the murderer did and confessed having done so to her solicitor and to her mother.

38 (15) Sophie Webster 8.36% (Round 1)

Next up, with quite a big drop in rankings, is Sophie Webster. Sophie was a popular character at the time of the competition last year and even made the top 15, however this year she's failed to make the top 30! 2011 mostly featured the ups and downs of Sophie's relationship with Sian, they got engaged however Sophie's increasing feelings for Amber put a spanner in the works and Sian left Sophie on their wedding day, leaving Sophie devestated. At the moment it seems that she's not really doing anything and there's nothing planned for her which might explain the drop in ranking, or maybe it's to do with her whininess

I thought Marcus would have been higher.

He's brilliant - and you're right, he's a much better representation of a gay man in 2012 than Sean.

37 (28) Sunita Alahan 8.53% (Round 1)

At 37, and another character to fall from the top 30 this year, is Sunita Alahan. Like the rest of her family, Sunita hasn't done too much in the past year which could be the reason for her slight drop, although she's still been supportive to other characters and has put Dev in his place and I still think she's a pretty good character. Will their be more storylines for Sunita in 2012?

36 (47) Nick Tilsley 8.56% (Round 1)

Up next, with a rise from last year, it's Nick Tilsley. Although Nick's not the best character on the street, he's definitely in a more comfortable position than he was last year and is improving. This year has involved him starting a new business, which has been a resounding success surprisingly, and relationships with Becky & Eva. He's had a much happier year compared to the previous one, but will that continue?

Don't the percentages in round one all depend on who who are up against.

Yeah they do, but the rounds were mostly fair and this was the fairest way of doing the result, it's how it's done in every other of these competitions aswell

35 (40) Izzy Armstrong 8.92% (Round 1)

At 35 and another character with an increase in ranking, it's Izzy Armstrong! I think Izzy's developed really well and has become a great character, she's very headstrong but also has a vulnerable and caring side to her. In the past year her storylines have mostly included her relationship with Gary, which almost became abusive at one point. Will she continue to develop and make the top 30 next year?

34 (57) Katy Armstrong 8.97% (Round 1)

Finishing just one place above her sister, it's Katy Armstrong. Katy is one of the characters with a huge rise, after finishing in the bottom 5 last year she almost made the top 30 this year, I seem to remember she was very close to the top 5 in her original heat. Katy's one of the characters who's really improved in the past year, she's been at centre of the soap for quite a bit and has recently given birth to her first child, I actually think the actress is pretty good but hasn't been given that great material. Can Katy improve her ranking next year?

33 (49) Kirk Sutherland 9.01% (Round 1)

Next up, and with another pretty big rise, it's Kirk Sutherland. I'm kind of surprised that Kirk's had such a big rise as he hasn't really improved that much for me. Kirk still mostly serves as a background character for comic relief, although I don't find him funny at all His scenes this year have involved him supporting his sister Maria and helping out Fiz's problems in prison, will he finally get a storyline of his own in 2012?

32 (N/A) Dennis Tanner 9.32% (Round 1)

Next up is the returning 60s character, Dennis Tanner. I was actually really disappointed that Dennis didn't make the top 30, I thought he deserved to and I thought he definitely would. Starting off as a tramp at a shelter that Sophie & Sian worked in, Dennis has got his life on the right track and has miraculously changed from his tramp days. He's had mostly mini storylines and been included in the brilliant scenes with the rest of the older characters, but reports suggest he could be taking quite a big role in 2012?
