20 (16) Audrey Roberts 15.35% (Round 2)
At 20th place and with a slight drop in ranking, it's Audrey Roberts! I love Audrey and I'm kind of disappointed she hasn't made the top 15, although I can see why as she hadn't appeared in a long time at the time of voting. 2011 saw quite an unusual for storyline for Audrey as she started a relationship with a transvestite, falling out with friend Claudia on the way. This relationship proved to troublesome and other characters couldn't understand it so they soon broke up. I think Audrey's quite an understated character, she's not usually considered to be one of the legendary characters but I think she's terrific and Sue Nichols is great, will she make the top 15 next year? |

19 (27) Tyrone Dobbs 15.45% (Round 2)
In 19th place and with a pretty big rise, it's Tyrone Dobbs. Tyrone was at a pretty bad place in his life at the time of the competition, however he's seemed to have gotten out of that and the future looks bright for him! In the past year we've seen him come to terms with Molly's deception and the fact that Jack wasn't his, and we've also seen him start a new relationship with Kirsty Soames, who is also pregnant with is child, but will the relationship last? I think Tyrone's a good character but this ranking seems a little high and he was very close to making the top 15, or maybe that's just my opinion

18 (N/A) Sylvia Goodwin 15.58% (Round 2)
In 18th place and highest of the new characters it's Sylvia Goodwin. I think Sylvia is an excellent addition to the street and I'm thrilled with her high ranking, she's a great comedy character and brings a much needed new atmosphere to Roy & Hayley's. So far in 2011 we've seen Sylvia and Roy reunite, Sylvia start a long winded feud with Norris and recently we've seen her interact with Milton, who is played by the legendary Robert Vaughn and was unfortunately not eligible to take part in this competition due to the time of the voting. Hopefully Sylvia will still be here next year and will be able to improve her ranking! |

Stephanie Cole is a brilliant comedy actress. I loved Tenko years ago with her in that. Robert Vaughn has been a gem (very busy, too, with CS and Hustle).

17 (20) David Platt 15.96% (Round 2)
In 17th place and with a small rise in ranking it's David Platt. I think David's been brilliant in the past year and has certainly gone up in my estimations, his relationship with Kylie has been brilliant and him being a step father to Max has brought out a side to him we haven't seen before. 2011 has mostly been about David's relationship with Kylie, which I must say is a terrific coupling and has done wonders for both characters, this has also seen David take an interest in Kylie's son Max and eventually adopt him. Will David be able to increase his ranking next year? |

16 (11) Julie Carp 16.03% (Round 2)
Just missing out on a top 15 placing, it's Julie Carp. Though still getting a great placing, Julie just missed out on the top 15 this year and has had a decrease in ranking from last year, where she was close to making the top 10. The past year has seen Julie look for love which has been surprisingly succesful as she has found love with Brian Packham and has recently fallen pregnant, I'm not the biggest fan of the Julie/Brian relationship but we still get some classic Julie scenes and Katy Cavanagh is great! Will Julie be able to keep her high ranking next year? |

A very strong top 15. I like most of them. Us Corrie poll voters are very good judges of character!

15 (6) Sally Webster 4.35% (Top 15)
At the bottom of the top 15 with a bit of a drop is Sally Webster. I think the reason for her high ranking last year could have been to do with the sympathy for the character at the time, which may have gone away throughout the year. Sally's had a hard year of getting back on her feet, after being distraught after finding out Kevin had a long winded affair with Molly Dobbs, but started a relationship with Rosie's manager Jeff and more recently Carla's rapist Frank Foster, who Sally believes to be innocent. Recent scenes have made Sally seem kind of unlikeable but with rumoured storylines, it seems the audience may have sympathy for her again. I think Sally's a great character and a credit to the soap, and I'm glad she's got a good ranking. |

14 (31) Anna Windass 4.71% (Top 15)
Next up and with a large rise it’s Anna Windass. I love the character of Anna and I’m glad she’s done so well this year, I think she’s one of the most well meaning characters and is just lovely all round. 2011 has mostly been about her new adopted daughter Faye for Anna, after fostering her earlier in the year this caused strains on her and Eddie’s marriage and they eventually broke up with Eddie moving to Germany, she has recently become romantically involved with Owen, much to Faye’s dismay, however that seems to be over after Owen smacked Faye. Will Anna be able to keep up her ranking next year? |

13 (17) Deirdre Barlow 5.58% (Top 15)
In 13th place and with a small rise we have Deirdre Barlow. Deirdre is one of my all time favourite Corrie characters and I feel she's usually underrated, so I'm glad she did well this year. A legendary character, Deirdre has had her fair share of drama but has had quite a quiet year and has mostly taken supporting roles in storylines, mostly picking up the pieces from Tracy. However Deirdre still continues to be an excellent character and a great comedy character, I think Anne Kirkbride is fab. What will 2012 bring for Deirdre? |

=12 (2) Eileen Grimshaw 5.68% (Top 15)
At joint 12th, and slipping from her top 2 placing, it's Eileen Grismhaw. Eileen was massively popular at the time of the compeition last year and this year she's taken quite a big dip considering she was very close to winning last year, I think this might be something to do with her new storyline. The past year has mostly seen Eileen start a new relationship with Paul Kershaw, only to find out he has a wife with Alzheimers! I think the Eileen and Paul relationship is a bad one and I think that's the reason for her fall in ranking, although I still think Eileen's a great character and is still one of my favourites! Can she regain a top 10 placing next year? |

These characters are getting great storylines at the moment and whilst I can understand their popularity as they are at the forefront of a current storyline - I really dislike Peter & Carla. Just too weak and self indulgent for me. They are incredibly selfish characters. I am not criticizing them as actors, but we are voting for our favourite characters and they are certainly not mine![/QUOTE] Nor mine! For me - first Becky, second Leanne, third Roy ...

Wow that's a massive drop for Eileen, if I recall correctly it was extremely close between her and Carla for top spot last year.
Thanks again for this Niall

=12 (22) Gail McIntyre 5.68% (Top 15)
In joint 12th with Eileen, and with a pretty big rise in ranking, it's Gail McIntyre. At this point last year there wasn't really much going for Gail and she struggled to make the top 30 last year, but this year she was close to making the top 10! Phil Collinson's done a great turn around with Gail, after the character was in a bad place he's turned her into more of a comedy character, and I love the scenes with Gail in now, and I think they have a great atmosphere at the Platt's. However Gail is more of a background character and doesn't have any main storylines, will that change in 2012? |
