3 (5) Leanne Barlow 632 Points (Final Round)
In 3rd place with a slight rise, it's Leanne Barlow! I think Leanne is an excellent character and it looked like at one point she was going to walk away with it, she was topping the top 15 round for a while however slipped to 4th towards the end, and maintained a 3rd place ranking in the final vote. Leanne has had a very busy year, after starting of the year with her affair with Nick Tilsley being revealed and almost loosing Peter and Simon, Leanne was soon shocked to find out her mother was the new rovers manager Stella Price! Things were shaky between the two for a while however they have soon maintained a good relationship. Things were going well for Leanne, until recently she faced the ultimate deception after finding out Peter had been having an affair with Carla, and chose Carla! Leanne is away from the street now but looks set to return soon. I think the high ranking could be due to viewers being sympathetic towards Leanne in the recent storyline, but she's an amazing character and would actually be my choice to win the whole thing! |

I wish Leanne would have gotten higher (Basically, I wish she'd have won it) But now I hope it will be Becky who wins it. But I think Carla may just sneak it.

So that means it's between Becky McDonald and Carla Connor, will Carla take the title for the second year in a row? Or will Becky finish top?

2 (1) Carla Connor 685 Points (Final Round)
Just missing of the top spot is last year’s winner, Carla Connor. I think Carla is amazing and she clearly has a massive fan base on here, I think the only thing that stopped her winning in the end was her affair with Peter which gained her low rankings, but she still nonetheless got an amazing ranking! Carla has very much been one of the most featured characters of the past year, if not the most featured! Her biggest storyline has been becoming a victim of rape after announcing to fiancé Frank Foster that she no longer wanted to marry him, which has led to the Peter and Carla affair and rape trial. I think that it’s all round been an amazing storyline and Alison King has been absolutely amazing. Will Carla be able to regain the top spot next year with this year’s winner departed? Or will she slip again? Which means the winner is... |

1 (10) Becky McDonald 722 Points (Final Round)
Getting the top spot with quite a big lead, it’s legendary recently departed Becky McDonald! I must say this time last year I wasn’t really a big fan of the character and didn’t think she deserved a top 10 ranking, however since she split up with Steve there’s been a massive turnaround for the character, and I think this placing is more than deserved! Becky has had another eventful year, she spent the first half with Steve and Max and constant feuding with Kylie and David, however since she lost both Steve and Max she has spent most of the time getting her life back on track, and has had some brilliant scenes with Roy & Hayley, Kylie and Danny Stratton. I think Becky’s been an amazing character and it’s a great send off that Becky has been voted Digital Spy’s Favourite Coronation Street Character 2012! I think we all hope Becky is having a good time in Barbados

You don't like her but you'd like her to be higher?
![]() I've got no idea what I was trying to say there! Not what I did say though, but I can't even remember my thought process now. I probably meant to say I want her to be lower. Seeing as I do want her to be a bit lower, that would make sense.

I'm glad Becky won. She's been a character in the foreground of the show and she had such a great exit. It seems fitting. Quote:
The top three is definitely the right three. All are astonishing actresses who play three of the best and strongest characters on the street. Corrie voters have picked well!

So that's it, it was close but Becky took the crown in the end, meaning we will almost certainly have a new winner next year. Will Carla regain the title? Or it will be someone else?
I'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone who's taken part in the voting and results, the competition's been a great success this year and it would have been no way near as good without all as you see you all again next year ![]() And last of all, here's the final ranking of every character, with their ranking from last year also included: 1. Agree with your comments Niall, the affair has changed many peoples views on Carla for the negative whilst Beckys happy ending and triumph over Tracy gained many new fans and deservedly so! Given the current disapproval from many members, I am pleasantly surprised Carla got second. Regardless of her misendeamours, she really is a cracking character to watch, all top 3 are.
Niall I adore this thread, thank you so so much. Bring on 2013!

I am shocked and amazed that hardly anyone has voted for Audrey Roberts. She's the perfect mix of comedy and drama and does it well. I am not saying that she is my all time favourite character but she's defo up there at the top...
I find these favourite character polls REALLY difficult to do as I like several characters equally... I am also amazed that Eileen hasn't appeared in the top this year as well. Nor Jason Grimshaw (hubba hubba). I am happy tho', actually exstatic, that Anthony Rotten aka Sean Tully doesn't appear in this top ten as I can not abide the woodenest actor to grace The Cobbles.. |

Well done Niall and thanks for all your hard work, it's been a very interesting thread and nail biting finish!
Becky deserved to come 1st, a wee bit disappointed that some of my faves were in the lower part of the top ten, but glad that Roy is so well appreciated.
