Been given some fresh herring today. Can't say that I have ever tried it before so would welcome ideas of how to cook it, what to have with it, etc. Am not keep on the roll mops idea though.
Fillet them, dip in seasoned flour, and pan fry. Delicious.
What area do you live in ? none available in my part of Scotland yet. I am eagerly awaiting for them to appear in fishmongers

Fillet them, and put in a dish.
Spread over a spoonful of pickle spice and some onion, then add half-and-half white wine and white wine vinegar.
Cook in the oven for a good hour.
