My advice: Don't make a shortlist this far in advance - MWC is at the end of this month, no doubt a few of the announcements made there will be available for you in April.

Sounds to me if you got bored with the Apple you will soon get bored with the replacement. If the i-phone had been bettered then it wouldn't be the runaway success it is. The bar between phones is very similar now, but until something comes along to blow the i-phone out of the water, then they will all be much of a muchness. But, perhaps, there is only 1 company who can do this - and that looks like Apple!

What phone do you use?

The S2 beats the Apple in independent reviews, I've got one and its really good, son in law dumped his A4 for an S2 after seeing mine. That said the Nexus is also top of the tree too and it was only the flip of a coin that stopped me getting one (literally, couldn't decide the S2 or Nexus so flipped a coin).

Some new Androids on the horizon so make do with the Apple for a couple of months is perhaps yours best option. Once you use and see the bigger display on the new phones you'll never regret the move. That said the iphone 5 is due but I think the damage is done now, they won't be in a position to rule the roost again with the amount of top performing Android phones hitting the market faster than Apple can compete with.

I'm not phone loyal and am waiting now for a Windows 8 phone

I must admit those new Samsung phones look nice and are tempting but I don't think I'll change from the iphone.

I was in the same boat...Bored to tears with the iPhone, decided to mover to the Samsung Galaxy S2 and have never looked back.
Nothing wrong with the iPhone as a phone, but it did just become boring. Not writing off a return to Apple, when and if they get back on track and offer something interesting.

And that company is Samsung.

Sat here for a depressing 2 weeks with a 4S while my S2 is away for repair for a bust screen and i cannot wait till tomorrow when it comes back.

Absolute nonsense! Iphone has been bettered by MANY handsets that have been released in the past year or so. If we are talking about a rich user experience, if we are talking about power and spec hell even design, there are many phones that offer a GREAT alternative.

It's been a runaway success not because it's the best phone ever made but because of the marketing and the hype generated, you are made to feel like you are losing out if you don't have an iphone. If you are gullible enough to believe that, then you will carry on being the sheep that you are, because there are enough people out there, smart enough to have found phones that are better than an iphone in every single way.

Do others market and sell their products better than Apple? no!! they are leaps and bounds ahead in the pr war. Are there phones that are as good as if not better than iphones? ABSOLUTELY!!!

Open your eyes and stop buying all the marketing spin that Apple feed you and look around, you will see many capable and fantastic phones that can do all of what an iphone can do AND MORE!!!

I think it will be far more common. The last round or two of phones have been "oh wow this does lots more than my old phone, it's a life changing device" ( ) Whereas now, it seems to be the odd tweak here and there, slightly bigger screen, slightly thinner, slightly better battery life.

Going to Android will be a bit of a change with UI and mod ROM fiddling etc. But you still have the same silo'ed app paradigms.

To get something REALLY DIFFERENT, there is only one answer: Windows Phone. Any windows phone - the interface is all the same, your money pays for things like hardware design, processor, camera etc.

Nokia Lumia 800 is iPhone size. Given the android phones you have are larger size you should also look at the HTC Titan. If you need to buy a phone now, these are your choices. Otherwise, Wilt makes a good point about waiting for MWC.

Do you not have an investment of iPhone apps? That's the big roadblock to swapping and changing between platforms I think. It's what's dissuading me most giving an Android phone a proper go.

depends on the apps. Android apps tend to be free far more often than iOS. e.g. Angry Birds £0.69 from Apple, free from Google. The only popular iOS app I know of that hasn't gone to Android is Instagram; a quick search returns over 300 alternatives, 3 quarters of which are free.

Someone should offer a service that calculates how much it costs to switch! Of course you still have to find matching apps....

I just bit the bullet and swapped. I haven't missed any of the Apps I had on iPhone. I suppose I paid out about £50 for apps on the iPhone so not a great amount over the years I owned it., We use it a as an iPod now so some of them are still used I suppose.
I think it's a barrier Apple might be pleased to have in place....

Android now has many of the same apps on iphone and have many decent alternatives. The gap has well and truly narrowed.
