I've been having a lot of problems trying to install Service Pack 2 and the System Readiness Update Tool for Vista. I finally seem to have got the update readiness tool to download this morning, but it's taking a heck of a long time to install (75 minutes at the moment).

Has anyone else had this problem and is it normal for it to take this long? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Some Windows updates can take a long time. I just Googled this KB and discovered someone for whom it took 2 hours!

Has it now managed to install OK for you?

It eventually installed after about an hour and a half. Unfortunately, the computer won't let me install Service Pack 2 (it said there was an error, but didn't say what!).

Seriously considering switching to Mac!

These things happen. You're just unlucky. When I first installed XP SP2 several months after it was released it rendered my PC unbootable. I had to rebuild from scratch with an integrated XP with SP2 disc that my OEM sent out. Despite exact same software installed it was fine thereafter.

My PC at the time was an AMD and I did in fact encounter an SP2-related bug. However, plenty of others with AMDs had no issues at all.

I did discover that each of these scenarios worked differently.
