Marcus Collins - Seven Nation Army ... how will it do?
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/s1...deo-watch.html
He's just released the video for the song How do you think it will do? Was he right to release so soon after X Factor? Also does anyone know is it getting much radio play? |

he's on the radio 2 A playlist, and capital are hammering him; so I expect a number one, top 3 at the lowest. That week is empty for him.
He's right to release now. All he needs is 4 good singles and a platinum album, which should be easy. And then promote his 3rd/4th singles on XF and the 3rd single on BGT finals. He should be ok. And then start working on his new album in the autumn for a summer 2013 release if all goes well. |

Eek. They've gone too far with the make up and overly manicured hair. Looks slimy now.

It's only been 2 months since XF so people still remember him I think... it should be a top 10 hit but will drop very fast the next week..

I absolutely love his version of this song! Although the organ on it makes me think of Halloween
![]() I really hope it does well because I have been worried for him ever since he announced it as his first single. I haven't met one person with anything positive to say about him doing this cover. My prediction would be maybe top 5 then drop very quickly. Looking forward to hearing his album. |

Reminds me of Madness mixed with UB40. I think its bloody awful but will probably get to number 1.

I can't believe people are saying it will get to number 1!
That makes me incredibly happy! I love the song and Marcus, but I'm incredibly sure it will flop

Good time for a release. I cant understand the whole waiting a year to put a single out, unless theyve got amazing song-writers to work with, by then the new XF year are on the scene and last years is forgotten. Just to have a couple of singles out from now until the album is ready seems a good idea to keep up a fanbase. The song is decent, I like the original but I dont think this cover is too bad and it should do well if it gets enough airplay. Good luck to him.

It's awful.
So bad, I feel I must post the original, just to bring balance to the universe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0J2QdDbelmY&ob=av2e |

In that article he says that he "hopes people like my take" on the song. I'm sorry, but if he keeps on saying things like this then I have to keep on bringing up the fact that 'his' take is a total carbon copy of the Ben L'Oncle Soul version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDwIly7Y8l4&ob=av2e

Wow. I'd never heard this version before but the Marcus Collins version is identical! If he (or his record company) doesn't get sued for this I'll be very surprised.

it is a huge rip off in terms of the production of the song. they cant really sue because of that though.
![]() I want marcus to be successful, poor lad needs all the help he can get as people have always been against him - well from the facebook comments and so. |

how can you be sued for doing a cover of a cover? No sweat, I dont think he'll have known about that version, but the label would. I just wish it was funkier, its quite basic for a soul track.
And it's more than just the production. The tempo is identical, the key signature is identical, even the vocal intonations are identical. Play the two youtube videos alongside each other and see for yourself http://underparis.blogspot.com/2012/...-of-cover.html As to whether Marcus knew about the Ben L'Oncle version or not, I don't know but either way it's not a good sign. If he didn't know than that means that he's happy to just let his record label tell him exactly what songs to record and how to record them (not a good sign). If he did know then he knowingly ripped off someone else and is now trying to pass it off as his own work (also not a good sign). |

You're right, I don't think they can be sued and that makes it even worse. They cynically chose to rip off someone else's work knowing that there was nothing (legally) that Ben L'Oncle could do about it and that they didn't have to give him any credit. I think that's quite despicable.

yes, but how is that anything other than ripping off the production?
*I know they were both done by the same producer, it's just the first example I thought of. |

I clearly have a more general view of production than you do.

why? because i don't agree with your viewpoint or because i don't give elaborate explanations, when really its quite simple.
I should have phrased that sentence better, when I wrote it I didn't realise it could be understood to mean that 'my view of production is better than yours'. English isn't my first language (although I have been living in the UK for years) and sometimes I miss things like that. Sorry if you took it another way but I was actually trying to acknowledge our differences and move on rather than insult you. I only wanted to stop an off-topic debate before it got out of hand... |

I think you misunderstand what I was trying to say. I didn't mean that I know more than you or that you're wrong, just that we clearly both mean different things when we talk about the production of a track. Which is fine. I was just trying to explain what I meant when I said it was more than just production similarities.
