Terrible uninspired cover, 10 quid budget for the video....
Marcus is above this, or so I thought he was.

Hehe you don't have to be at Tynecastle to sing that song. Any time I hear the song I'm humming that version lol.

Snowyface I can't believe people are saying it will get to number 1! That makes me incredibly happy! I love the song and Marcus, but I'm incredibly sure it will flop
I agree Snowyface. Marcus is a really talented singer, it would be a real shame if he flopped, as I fear he will

you cant tell, and he seems to have many fans. If the singles flops then you can say that but not yet.

He deserves to flop badly with this song. I swear that if he mentions that this is his own version of the song, ill ****ing strangle him. How shameless is it to claim that it is your own take on the song when its a rip off?

I do quite like it but after hearing the ben l'oncle version i definately prefer that, Marcus' version is a ripoff, does he have to get permission to cover the song in the exact same way as him? or would he just need permission to cover the original.

In that article he says that he "hopes people like my take" on the song. I'm sorry, but if he keeps on saying things like this then I have to keep on bringing up the fact that 'his' take is a total carbon copy of the Ben L'Oncle Soul version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDwIly7Y8l4&ob=av2e
Spot on, he'd be better off doing a version of Ben’s Soul Man. At least that would only be a cover, instead of a cover of a cover.

What I don't understand is why the Syco acts are all lumbered with covers. Surely there is enough money in the system to fund a team of songwriters. Why work so hard to establish a performer like Marcus, then don’t give them a chance to have a song of their own.

I'm not Adele’s biggest fan, but with 'Rolling In The Deep' she came up with something we'd never heard before. Records like that are the biggest hits these days, not covers.

I can't stand Marcus. I thought he was such a cheeseball on XF. One of the biggest cheeseballs to ever be on the show, in fact.

Got to wonder how he's managed to secure so much air play, really.

Because commercial radio is up Syco's arse.

he isnt on syco. and he did it because of time constraints with the album release. Do you know how hard it is to simply create a good song easily? it takes a lot of effort. Rolling in the deep HAD a point, and a source. If you dont have a source to write about, its hard to create anything. And it costs less to have covers, and thousands to create songs in writing camps (unless you do it yourself). And dont shoot him down, the rolling stones did covers galore before writing original stuff. He's apparently co-written 6/7 songs on the album too, so he has some talent. It takes YEARS to write songs like rolling in the deep. Notice how long adele was writing for before that song came out - about 5 years. Its a starting point, all it has to do is sell 200k and the album to sell 300k. Easy sales.

I think it will be at least top5 because Capital are playing it to death, and since they went nationwide they seem to have an increasing amount of influence.

horrible cover though, the original doesn't even feel that old (or maybe i'm just getting old!?) and the video pales in comparison to the originals classic video.

he`s not signed to syco, he`s on rca records. its radio friendly and his profile is high due to his stint on the x factor.

I really hate it. Every time it comes on I just want to hear The White Stripes.

Whenever they play it when I am in the car, I just hit play on the CD player.

Maybe I should put The White Stripes. version in the car CD player, and listen to that.

Leona has done some covers, not sure if Cher has? 1D and Rebecca haven't. Plus not all XF acts are signed to Syco. Some are with RCA (Marcus is) or Epic.

Back to Marcus, I think this will chart at #9 or #10.

After reading some of the negative comments on hear about Marcus's version I was pleasantly surprised when I actually watched it but subsequently listening to Ben l'Oncle's version I'm afraid I Marcus's pales into insignificance.

Did he actually hear this and just copy it? The video is also cr*p compared to Ben's so all in all a thumbs down from me. I just hope others are aware of the obvious copy here.

We'd never heard before? Maybe not in your lifetime but the song is derivative from older music. She didn't invent that sound.

Had a quick listen to some songs on his album. His voice sounds so tinny and auto-tuned. What a shame.

Glad it only reach 9, if ever there was an act to show how cheap X Factor contestants can be it's Marcus, he's only stuck with this niche/style because it's all he has, hanging on for dear life. Serious case of gay face which irks me as well (coming from a gay guy!)
