Hi

I have been with T-mobile for many years, i have two lines with them on a good deal. £5 on unlimited t-mobile calls plus 100 minutes and 100 text with unlimited internet. Plus a phone for 24 months. This is for both phones.

Now I'm due for an upgrade on both phones. One of the lines is for my mother so she wants to stick with what she had before and wants a basic phone.

I wanted the Samsung galaxy S2 so T-mobile made me an offer:

£10 a month plus £90 towards the phone for 24 months.

This sounded like a great deal to me.

However I discovered the galaxy note and I really want that phone.

The problem is that t-mobile don't have this phone directly on upgrade. So I found a way to get it through carphone warehouse and they spoke to t-mobile on my behalf.

They made the offer of adding extra £90 to the phone which would be adding £180 extra to get the note.

I tried to get the price down but carphone warehouse are telling me t-mobile have set the price and they can't change it.

Spoke to T-mobile and they said the same exact thing about carphone warehous. Surpise suprise, I even said I was going to cancel both lines if they couldn't bring the price down. They said that they can't doing anything for me.

For those familair with both phones, is it worth paying extra £90 to get the note?

Or can I get a better offer somewhere else to get the Galaxy Note?

Thanks

The S2 is getting on a bit now but if you can get it for just £90 @ £10 a month its a great deal.
You might also need add data but the S2 is mostly around £20 - £25 a month.

If you look at the SIM free price of the S2 and the Galaxy Note on Expansys as an example, the 16GB S2 is £430. The 16GB Galaxy Note is £500.

By that token the wholesale price from Samsung to the networks is higher. If they're offering you the same percentage discount on both phones, then the price of the Note they can quote you is going to be higher because it's a more expensive phone for them to buy from Samsung.

It's simple economics. They're not going to give you a more expensive item for the same cost as a cheaper one.

Galaxy Note is as much tablet as phone so you simply need a assess needs.

Both those high end Galaxy screens are still light years ahead which for some makes anything else seem dated.

I'm aware that the Galaxy Note costs more than the S2.

But T-mobile are charging me twice as much to get the Note instead of the S2. The Samsung Galaxy Note costs around £60 more, some retailers even have it for the same price.

I don't know much about smartphone's. I wanted to know whether the Galaxy Note is worth me spending the extra money.

Are they better phones coming out soon that I should wait for instead?

If you waited for the next better phone before buying one, you'd never buy a phone!

I opted for the Galaxy Note before Christmas and got it sim-free from amazon.de, as it was about £200 cheaper than UK Amazon.

I absolutely love it - it's a phone/organiser/mini-tablet/gaming machine all rolled into one, and the screen is absolutely great. Performance wise, nothing has caused it any problems at all, and I suspect when the ICS build it released for it, it'll be regarded as superior to the Nexus (which I already regard it as being in terms of day to day functionality anyway).

How much did you get it for on amazon.de?also does it come with warranty.

I really want this phone. I'm going to to get it. Forget the S2

I just need to find the best deal on the Note.

I've just been offered one that was purchased from Amazon.de also, just wondered if you could tell me if there are any issues with it being German? Read something somewhere that the marketplace might be trying to show german apps first etc.

Thanks

At the time it was around £400 on Amazon de compared to £570 on UK Amazon.. so not quite £200, but a considerable saving nonetheless!

Currently it's £426 on .de compared to £499 on .uk. That's with a 26% discount on the rrp on .de.. but if you keep an eye on it through the week, the discount can go up a lot more, reaching as near as £400 as you're likely to get!

The warranty is exactly the same as you'd get in the UK - EU legislation covers that. I'm not sure whether you'd have to send it to .de or Samsung though. The strange thing is that it actually ships from the UK, goes to Belgium and then comes back to the UK for delivery here! No idea why.

I really can recommend it though; it just so useful in an all round way. It's a small pad that happens to include a phone imho.

No problem with the marketplace. When you turn the phone on, the initial options are in German, but you just press the bottom right hand button which says 'sprachen' or something like that and select English.

Once you sign in with your google account, it's exactly the same as a phone you'd get in this country.

Cool thanks mate.

I'm currently using a Note, I ordered one on a new contract from o2 just to try out as I'll be trading my iPhone 4S for one if I liked it so wanted to make sure I did before taking the plunge.
I'll be sending it back within the 14 day change of mind policy and cancelling the contract as I already have one with the iPhone, but been offered a Note, official case and dock including cash for my iPhone but was bought from Germany also.

I think it's a pretty good deal which I'll accept, just wanted to be sure first.

Great phone, can't wait for ICS. Just wish the stock email app would push Hotmail in full HTML automatically without having to keep pressing 'load more details' each time.

The size of it adds to it's functionality I reckon. Having used it for a couple of hours I went back to the iPhone and saw how puny it was and I couldn't type on it then and found the font too small all of a sudden! haha

Ha, same here! I used to think my Desire was huge, but it looks so small now A few of my friends have got Iphones and they look absolutely tiny compared to this.. well, compared to most modern Android phone models really!

Agreed with the Hotmail app - I was hoping that the Social Hub widget would address that, but I just use the bog standard email app instead. In some ways I suppose it's not that bad - if you ever get a poor connection, then at least you're getting the basic body of the email.

I really do like the Note though.. it's kind of how I envisaged my ideal mobile about 5-6 years ago.

Yeah I found that good as I have hardly any reception in work so at least I see what the email is about. The Hotmail app sucks though so I'm just using the stock app too and using the exchange server.

Was looking at rooting it but not sure what apps I'd lose and if it's really worth it with ICS coming out. I'm just mainly glad I can send MMS again - been sending pointless rubbish drawings I've been making on S Note to people lol

I was thinking the same re. rooting. I was looking on XDA and they've got an ICS build that they've cobbled together, but there's loads of functionality missing so I think I'll wait for the official release.

If they can iron out all the faults further down the line, than that'd be good and potentially attractive, but having spent so much on it, I'm not about to go fiddling

I use the pen to jot down ideas mainly - it's like having a little electronic pad of post-it notes, and equally as disorganised
