Went to look for one today, told they are not made any more. Is that true. Has the model been discontinued.

If so its a shame, not everyone wants a touchscreen or a full size keyboard.

but obviously not enough want that particular model.

You could try something like the HTC Cha-Cha ... which despite its awful name looks to be filling the gap between Blackberry style phones and Android quite nicely ....

I always thought the Pearl was weird:the 2 unique things about BB phones being the BB Messenger and the Qwerty keyboard...,and they dropped the qwerty! How anyone can find the sms keypad approach preferable to typing baffles me!

There were 2 versions of the 91xx Pearl the 9105 had the T9 keypad as you say, and that was the one released mainly outside of North America. There was also the 9100 which had the two letters to a key Qwerty keypad released mainly inside North America. They were trying to appeal to those people who didn't want a Qwerty keyboard, and preferred the T9.

The brilliant feature of the Pearl was/is the Surepress keypad. Takes a bit of getting used to - but once you've mastered it, it's much better than the normal QWERTY input.
