Discolouration on Samsung TV
I have a 14 month old Samsung 32" (possible 36 - can't remember) TV. I've just re-wired and tidied up all the mess of cables behind, and after watching for a while, there's a slight discolouration in the bottom left corner. It turns yellow greenish, and red purple - I can't see it on all colours.
It's not near any speakers or magnets, other than the inbuilt ones - which should be shielded? It *could* be a new thing - I haven't watched it too much lately, but I think I'd have spotted it before now if it wasn't. Any ideas?

It sounds like the problem you get with a magnetic field nearby. You didn't place it near something magnetic whilst tidying did you?
Anyway, if this is the problem switching it off, leaving for a minute or two & then switching it back on again should cure (de-gauss) it. StereRowe |

Nope - I can't think of anything magnetic it was near.
I've left it off for half an hour, and it seems the same. |

Got the same problem here with my Sanyo 28" TV. It is especially noticable when watching Freeview when the Pace Interactive Loading... (blue screen) comes up. It's purple and is near the centre (just left of) the screen. The off and on cure's it but it's very strange.

Now this is strange - the problem was still the same last night.
I got Sky+ installed today, and suddenly it's vanished. And it was happening on all inputs - DVD and VCR. |

To fully degauss a TV you need to leave it switched off for longer than a few minutes. Around 15-20 minutes will usually do but overnight is best. You should unplug it at the mains, not just switch to standby as some sets don't fire the degauss coils when switching on from standby.
Just turning a TV in a different direction can be enough to cause purity problems because of the earth's magnetic field. It doesn't always need an external cause. |
