Madonna flops hard!
i really hope she has a decent single coming up to release the album on the back of.
that ghastly mess she performed at superbowl couldnt even be saved by MIA or the one and only minaj! no excuses. her single has failed. and as a fan im hoping we get a modern classic next. she is capable of it. 'hung up' 'sorry' '4 minutes', all fairly recent and brilliant. |

It's a bad song by her standards but did you know that up to 140,000 pre releases were sold of a new album and part of the deal was the single being given away hence it being unable to chart. Had Interscope not fu*ked that up she wouldn't have flopped

I agree OP. GMAYL is catchy enough and I keep singing it but as good pop releases go, it is dire.
I am sure she will pull something out of the bag! |

The good thing is the snippets of the other songs sound great. I have faith it'll be a good album, it's just a regret she's chosen Solveig to produce as all his songs sound the same, bland and repetitive

She hasn't flopped really though has she.
The album has already topped itunes in 52 of the 53 counties that use it on pre orders alone. Album sales are what matters and Madonna is a 50 year old woman. Her days of being a singles artist are over. Albums are where it is at and she has already proven she has it still. Plus hasn't her tour already sold out? Lets put flop into prospective please

Single buyers tend to be younger and Madonna doesn't appeal so much to a younger generation. The majority of her fans are late 20's+ and grew up listening to her, these are album buyers. I think her team know this and that's why they are focusing on the album and tour

I'm not making excuses for her, but this is her comeback song after a 5-year hiatus. She managed to make the public (and radio programmers) interested in her again and she also got a top 10 hit in the US. Besides, granted how successful the album is in pre-order charts, I think it's safe to say the majority of her fans didn't even buy the single...
Anyway, her 2nd single will sell slightly better I believe, but if you're expecting a top 3 debut all over the world and a Katy Perry chart run, then I bet you'll be labelling the second single as a flop too in 1 month time

Under-performing, but not "flopping".
She's made herself relevant, grabbed a lot of attention and hype with the Superbowl, Gaga comments and W.E appearances...but I just don't think the song itself has clicked with the casuals (hence why it's free-falling). At this point, all she needs to do is bring out a better single that can take advantage of her name being everywhere. |

They can't say it's a buzz single, since they confirmed that it's the first official single before it was released. Songs like 1+1 by Beyonce, Hair by Lady Gaga, Stupid Hoe by Nicki Minaj, E.T. by Katy Perry, etc. are buzz singles, since they were confirmed as promo singles before they were released.

No they're not. Her last single before this (Celebration) in 2009 got to #3 in the UK.
With 140k plus sales of Give Me All Your Luvin' discounted that would have also gone top five. Its actually her biggest debut on the Billboard in America since 2005. UK chart rules banned it from being allowed to entre when it should have. The single has performed its just not held onto its gains purely because it was given away as a freebie to all the millions around the world who preordered the album. All those saying she has underperformed or flopped come back mid April when MDNA is number 1 in 50 countries around the world... then we can talk

the MDNA album will be the big seller here, she has frequently said she believes in the record and the material she has recorded in recent interviews after the Super Bowl.
So i reckon they will release a handful of songs from MDNA to endorse the album and tour really and ensure that people have the album working in select territories, which means they will do a mini-promo tour around the MDNA album release in select territories etc. Luvin underperformed...it could have smashed the top 5 but didnt. girls gone wild is the next release so that should really access casual listeners in the Dance/Club market definitely. And if she releases one of the ballads which i am also so excited to hear she will reach other areas too with MDNA (Falling Free has had a lot written about by Orbit so i do have a feeling about it). |

And i'm saying that shen is still a singles artist! Which you have just said so yourself by saying the single would have gone Top 5 if it wasn't for the stupid discounts. Wait untill "Girls Gone Wild" goes Top 5/ Top 10 aswell
![]() I mean i rememeber the behind the music for Ray Of Light the album and she didnt know or care if anything she released was a "hit" but that she wanted the music out there. Low and behold she had 5 top 10 hits and two worldwide number 1s with the album and perhaps elevated her so much higher than she imagined ![]() Proof that literally anything can and does happen ![]() But i do think Wild will be something massive, i just hope there is more airplay...she needs a 5 min interview via telephone for Radio 1 i mean it has worked before with stars ringing in and they get airplay through the roof

Yeah I think MDNA is going to be brilliant aswell, i've just been looking at the tracklisting on wikipedia and Orbit has produced 6 of the 15 songs on the deluxe! "Masterpiece" is obviousely one so I can't wait to hear the other 5!

That's the album that got me into Madonna, I was only 10 when it came out but I remember seeing "Frozen" on the music channels and I was hooked! Then came "Ray of Light" single which is just her best single ever, the video, the song is just euphoric! And "The Power of Goodbye" is my fav ballad of hers and one of my top singles from her ![]() Yeah I think Wild will bve massive aswell, hope at least Top 5 and a radio interview on BBC1 would be great, hopefully though if she's on The Chart Show then Girls will be #1

Yes definitely! You get me with that. Yeah Orbit has made 6 on the Deluxe, she has also done 6 with Solveig and three with Bennassi Brothers and The Demolition Crew (said to be a mix of Rock and Dance so cannot wait for that!) So we will have a load of flavours on MDNA.
And yes promo like Confessions would be excellent!
