I went through three copies of JLP!! Obsessed so I was
I think Alanis left it too long between the release of JLP and SIJ and lost quite a lot of her momentum.

I think Alanis made a very conscious decision not to capitalise on the success of 'Jagged Little Pill'. Let's face it, she could have released more of the same and it would likely have sold loads, though admittedly probably not as much as 'JLP'. Instead, she made a very personal, daring and uncommercial album that unsurprisingly lost her the vast majority of her casual fans but remains a fan favourite. I think it's obvious when listening to 'SFIJ' why a lot of 'JLP' fans lost interest, but personally I think they're both great albums, though for different reasons.

It's impossible to keep the same success going, her material after JLP was less radio friendly too.

As to those who say Adele will end up the same, if she doesn't change her sound and keeps it like 19 and 21, i can see her 3rd album being big.

It's a bold move - but rather silly to lose 30 million possible sales....I don't think SFIJ is THAT different to JLP - One, Thank U, That I Would Be Good, UR, Would Not Come would all sound at home on JLP

You couldn't get music for free in 1995. And the idiot using this as a way to intimidate Adele fans *zzzzz* she isn't going anywhere, neither is Gaga or Minaj unfortunately.

It was a stretch to get it for free in 1998 - I just discovered Audiogalaxy about that time....and Adele has shifted what 17 million with free music available like tap water

Why does every thread on here turn into a Gaga v Adele? I don't get it! They are two totally different artist so why compare them?

We all know Adele is selling better than Gaga! You don't need to keep reminding us! (And I'm an Adele fan)

Alanis chooses the wrong songs to release as singles from her album and usually only releases 2 singles from each album. Erode abandoning it.

I think it depends on what you want, Alanis had already had the major success and enormous record sales and clearly didn't want to just keep milking the success of 'JLP', not silly at all if she wanted to go in a different direction when she'd already earned tons of money. And yes there are a few songs on 'SFIJ' that wouldn't sound out of place on 'JLP', but there plenty of others like 'Front Row', 'The Couch', 'So Pure' just to name a few that definitely would. Most of the angrier moments (and there are a lot of them) on 'JLP' are completely different from the majority of 'SFIJ' which generally is far less in-your-face, slower and more brooding, so I would say that they are very different albums.

Name me a singer that had such a massive album of 32 Million Sales and then followed it up with an even bigger one? Michael Jackson never sold anything like the units he achieved with Thriller with each subsequent album.

Unlike Alanis Shania still managed to sell UP in its millions...I dont see why Shania was even bought into the topic. Alanis on the other hand has had a drastic drop.

God I have to pitty all those in this thread who are foaming at the thought Adele's next album might flop.

For a start Adele isn't Alanis. As soon as Alanis came back with this

Her career was doomed. She jumped the ship and had gone bonkers. As someone said we already have Bjork and Sinead O Conner so didn't need another one.

Adele isn't that stupid and isn't that out there either.
