EE - 2009 was an amazing year for the show
So many highlights:
Ronnie/Danielle Archie taking over the Vic/his Xmas Day murder Stacey's bi-polar Lucas killing Trina and Owen Syed/Christian/Amira love triangle Heather's pregnancy - who's the daddy? Sam Mitchell's return (I think her initial 2009 return was good, it was when Kirkwood brought her back again in 2010 pregnant with Jack's baby which ruined her) I could go on and on, so much happened in that year! I know there were bad points (the Nick and Dotty storyline was awful ) but the cast, storylines and the overall feel of the show was MUCH stronger compared to today's mess

I agree that Current EastEnders is a mess but I disagree about 2009 being the best year.
2000 and 2001 by a mile was the best era. Brilliant Characters and Unforgettable storylines - Frank, Pat and Peggy in Spain - Frank and Pat Reveal - Ethel's return and Death - The Slaters Arrival - Phil's shooting - Sonia's pregnancy and adoption - Ashley's death - Trevor and Little Mo - Sharon's return - Matthew's revenge plot - The Bomb in the Square (15th Anniversary storyline) - Brighton - Terry and Irene's marriage collapse |

Yep, 2009 is probably my favourite year of EE to be honest.
Ronnie/Danielle, the Archie saga and Sam's return made the year enjoyable for me but I also enjoyed the other storylines mentioned. A strong set of storylines, a strong cast, a strong production team - a strong year! |

No, not really. It was an all right year but it wasn't that much to write home about. I loved September-December 2009, but the rest of the year was quite poor, IMO. Even the bits I enjoyed were affected by poor writing and pacing.
Liked: Ronnie/Danielle Sam's return (pissed all over Kim Medclaf's Sam, I know, but it was enjoyable) Build up to "Who Killed Archie?" Stacey's bipolar Whitney's trial Jean breaking down after Sean left Jack/Sam/Bianca/Ricky Ronnie/Jack (although the pacing and development was abysmal) Trina! ![]() Anything else from September-December (apart from Darren/Heather! )I think most storylines we got that year were pretty good, but the pacing and development were so poor that they made those potentially dynamic storylines a lot worse than what they could"ve been. That said, it was a million times beyter than what we have now. |

It's funny as I remember a lot of people moaning about 2009 as well. Personally wasn't a huge fan of 2009 to be honest - it did have a few good storylines, but most of it was just the same OTT sensationalistic crap. And I agree wholeheartedly about 2000-2001 being the best year - by a long distance. The mid-90s were great too - I loved that episode of Philth, Grant, Ricky, Bianca and David Wicks going on holiday to Spain together.

Billie's death was a good storyline |

2009 was certainly better than the show is currently.
But, we still had: Phil, Dawn and Garry Who shagged Heather? Nick holding the cafe hostage Sam's pointless return Whitney's mum (Debra?) Ronnie constantly trying to get pregnant So it wasn't all that good. |

Baby swap - destroyed all the characters involved Evil Yusef - was good, but terribly paced Michael's revenge - Heavily involved Antler:yawn: Eddie's secret son - Boring Bubbly in the fridge - Brilliant! ![]() Amira's return - They've ruined her character. She was NOT a bunny-boiler in her innitial stint Tanya's cancer - Some brilliant acting, but again, the pace was wrong Billy finds he has a grandaughter - Julie was rubbish, Lola hasn't been very good either Ben turns stalker - The Who Stalked Phil story was awful. The writers have made every reveal turn out to be Ben. This was one of many ![]() Southend week & Ryan kills Rob - This was quite good, I like it when they go on-location, but then again, it brought us Rose:yawn: B & B fire...the Masoods reunite and Yusef dies - This was good, not gonna deny it |

2011 and 2009 were both dreadful IMHO. 2011 is slightly worse - it could've been one of the best years because the plots were interesting despite some being very sensationalistic, but they were executed so BADLY for the most part. The Baby Swap plot is a prime example of that.

Yep..apart from Stacey's bi-polar and Archie's murder there were some ludicrous stories that year as well as Daniella Westbrook ruining the character of Sam Mitchell.

So you'd rather watch the Baby Swap, Ben being responsible for EVERY whodunnit on the Square, Tyler and Anthony Moon and Kalfie running the Vic??
Good grief! . Different strokes for different folks and all that. |

2011 was very average in my opinion. I thought the Whitney/Rob storyline at the beginning of the year was gritty EE at its best though the conclusion in Southend was pretty rubbish, Janine's story with Lydia was touching and well played out, and moments like Bubbly in the Fridge were very good. I thought Tanya's cancer story was acted very good but at times ignored and not set out right and the Masoods story dragged on a bit to long. The whole story with Eddie Moon and his secret son is in my opinion one of the worst storylines in EE that i have watched, the only person I cared about in all that was Michael. To much Kat/Alfie marriage crap, Phil smashing up stuff and acting like a dick etc etc. I hope this year will be better, the last two episodes have been terrible but I hope for a change in Producer this year who will surely axe Tyler and Anthony and I think if written better Derek could be a good villian. Bryan Kirkwood has done some good things for the show but its time to hand it over to someone else as it badly needs some new direction.
