Coldplay- Posh Boys?
Coldplay have received much praise in their careers, arguably one of the biggest bands in the world but did they get a leg up in the music biz because of their public school backgrounds?
Chris Martin himself seems to be Coldplay, the other guys can rest on their laurels and still be worth more than 30 million pound each? what a life I say... I have seen them live twice and I must say they are great live... but I do think that having a privileged background did help them. |

It must have been that because their music is bloody awful drivel that 50 year olds listen to.

I don't see why it would help them. Record labels don't care what your background is, if they think you will sell they will sign you.

If that is the case how come the charts aren't full of "posh boys" ? I would say the majority of artists in the chart today are from lower class backgrounds. Their early music was amazing and at the time was picked up by the radio stations and the rest is history. |

I think this whole concept of "posh" people finding it easier to get success in the music biz is complete rubbish, if anything the music press use it to slag them off! Like them or not, Coldplay made it big the old-fashioned way... by playing lots of gigs, doing festivals and support slots, and writing songs that people liked!

Ridiculous thread. And for you to suggest that Coldplay are all Chris Martin just shows your ignorance. They all write the songs, share the royalties completely. He gets more attention because he is the front man and is married to an actress. I would've thought that was obvious to anyone.

I disagree they spent a good 3 years or so trying to get famous, doing the small gigs and small radio shows like any other band would. They didn't buy or cheat their way to success.
I don't actually know what Coldplay's background is, just making a general point. |

But that's the bit that being from a rich family can help you with. If you have someone financially supporting you then you can afford to spend years doing those small gigs and earning very little while you wait for your big break. Of course that breaks still never going to come if you don't have something else. You can't just be rich and wait but I think being wealthy helps.

Poor Lana Del Rey got crucified for her privileged background. How dare she not come from the run down council estate. What would she know about "real life"? Daddy bought her a career.
Really, why are people obsessed with an artist's background? I could not care less where they came from. |
