The Ratings Thread (Part 32)
Quote:
I have been watching it on RTL Germany for the first six rounds. Now switched to Box Nation to find the picture quality is very poor. It's like watching on a converted NTSC to PAL feed. Even though Germany uses PAL technology.

Annoying when you're about to post something and the thread closes. Ah wells, thanks for the archive.

Probably because it's the longest so would put the most strain on DS' servers when accessed. It would be nice if they split it up into smaller chunks so we could still read it as there was a lot of data posted in that time.
C5 boxing is going to overrun. |

Of course it's down to The Voice - the Jubilee isn't the issue people here over the last year have made it out to be
Indeed. The only big evening event is the Monday concert. The other two big events - Sunday's river pageant and Tuesday's thanksgiving service are daytime (with possibly extended news bulletins)More disruption will probably be caused to primetime indirectly through soap scheduling - i.e. probably a Monday EE to reschedule, and whatever ITV1 decide to do on the Monday up against the concert. Apparently it will start mid-evening and end around 10.45pm |

I don't see My Man Can being a big hit but done right it sounds like something that might do alright if made well and put in a decent slot.
As for Jay Hunt, I'm not convinced that she did that badly at BBC1. You could see why Channel 4, which relies on a lot of factual stuff, would see her as a good candidate. Tbh, I was quite surprised that they were down so much in January, I hadn't been conscious of it being that bad in the overnights. It's too soon to tell but one issue for her is that she'll not just be able to rely on factual. The 10pm hour is one that she needs to tackle, most likely with imports and drama. In Homeland, she has shown excellent taste, though I fear the ratings might not reward her for that decision. BGT moving earlier is something I've suggested countless times - they've got a lot more freedom now that Cowell isn't doing American Idol. They don't need to be running the live week in June, clashing with Eurovision and being moved for the Champions League. Although I'd like to see it as part of a bigger overhaul of the structure which I doubt we'll actually get. The only way I can see BGT and The Voice clashing is if the latter runs past 8pm like Strictly did. In which case ITV1 will surely match the start time. Otherwise, I'd expect The Voice at 7pm-8pm and BGT at 8pm-9pm/9.15pm. And it would seem logical to match the start date as well. |

I fear you maybe correct. The Voice has been in a hit in a different environment elsewhere, an environment without a dominant X-Factor (or in some cases without X-Factor).
Only that's really not true at all. The show has launched in markets where The X Factor and/or the Idol format have been at the very least popular if not outright dominant and been massively successful. People are far too keen to use The X Factor as a reason why the format can't possibly work in the UK. The Voice may or may not work here but if it doesn't it won't be because of The X Factor or even Britain's Got Talent. Its a more than strong enough format to stand on its own away from these shows and be successful.

The Golden Jubilee events marked in bold. But even these spectacular figures (eg, 6m watching a parade at 9.25am) fail to record the peaks (up to 11m on BBC1 alone as the Tuesday daytime festivities climaxed with a flypast and Royal gathering on the Palace balcony around 6pm), and the 4 Tuesday programmes highlighted made up the whole day's coverage on BBC1 between 9.25am and 7.15pm! So, if taking this evidence into account - plus the monster ratings for the Royal Wedding last year - do you really think the Jubilee will be a non-event? |

From TVScoops on Twitter:
ITV has commissioned a one-off special of 'Des O'Connor Tonight' to celebrate the life & career of one of Britain's best loved entertainers. The 90-minute special, which is set to feature star guests and celebrities, will be the first episode of 'Des O'Connor Tonight' in 10 years. |

No sign of Louise Redknapp on BBC2's Something For The Weekend, although she was advertised to be on.
When she's on holiday, Tim and Simon (who are switching to Channel 4) normally mention it, but today they didn't. |

The only disruption the thanksgiving service is going to cause is that Homes Under The Hammer etc have to take the day off. And news bulletins maybe normal Tuesday length rather than bank holiday length And for the record I am a proud supporter of the monarchy, and work permitting I hope to be one of the millions watching |

Rick Behari 6.5m is impressive for what it is, I went higher on the RPG, but I think last year was exceptionally high. BBC1 will be happy if it continues at those levels next week.
@rickbehari Following #Letsdance averaged 6.5m, peak of 7.1m. Most popular show of the night #sportrelief |

Solid rating for Let's Dance. Down -14% y-o-y though, and it had an identical slot last year, and if anything the competition was slightly weaker on paper last night than it was last year. Still a good rating though.

How's down 14 percent still good? Dancing on Ice and Big Brother get slammed on this thread if theyre down that much. Its quite a bad start, BARB says it had 8million last year and 2010 it got 6.5million at half past 6.
