Isn't Channel 4 showing the sequel, World Without End, Pillars did alright as did Camelot. Think if Channel 4 wanted to do a big budget drama in the future, they should team up with Starz who have been trying to increase their scripted portfolio, teaming up with BBC Worldwide and Electus for upcoming dramas like DaVinci's Demons and Marco Polo. I imagine they'll expand to two hours on Fridays to accomodate more shows.
Yes, think World Without End is due in the autumn so knowing C4 they'll put it against Downton.

I agree though with Sky locked in a deal with HBO it should be Showtime and Starz they're looking at - and to be fair that it where their recent US commissions have come from. Cable drama is generally quite strong in the US at the moment with TNT and AMC also making their mark - indeed I'd say at the moment they're probably in a healthier state than network drama.

If I was the boss of BBC One I would be ordering a Christmas episode of Call The Midwife as soon as possible. It would completely own Christmas Day's ratings. They would be crazy to not even consider it.
As much as I've moaned every year about the same old BBC1 schedule on Christmas Day the last thing I'd want to see on BBC1 on Christmas Day is something like Call the Midwife. It would be better suited to the Sunday a couple of days earlier.

Hollyoaks omnibus: 200k

Not hard to see why they might want rid of that then.

Sunday Brunch could triple or even quadruple the slot average.
Sadly true - though C4 have done the Hollyoaks omnibus no favours by taking it out of it's regular 10/10.30am slot and moving it earlier and earlier and earlier, often beginning now before 9am. Hopefully at least with the move to E4 it'll get a more hangover friendly slot.

shame for Being Human looks dented
No surprise about Being Human considering the shows two lead stars are gone - but the second generation is working for me at the moment. I know BBC3 have gone on record as saying either Being Human or Lip Service will be axed as they'll only have the budget for one of them, so hope that isn't what ultimately determines the fate of the show.

As for the flagship shows last night - Homeland did well, so be interesting to see if it retains viewers over future weeks. And for any other show 6.7m for a second series premiere would seem brilliant - but in comparison to both Downton and Call the Midwife it is somewhat underwhelming.

However it's the sort of figure that can be spun either way - as I said at the weekend I've a feeling it'll flop this year so I'm seeing 6.7m as a poor rating when it clearly isn't. Others I'm sure will see it as a superb rating - though IMO it's a few hundred thousand short to fall in that category.

I hope Being Human isn't axed, episode 1 had 1.2m while episode 2 had 0.86k, both of which are good ratings! Also, take into account BBC iPlayer views!

Revenge had a great holdover! 1.8m is very impressive and a bit surprising at the same time. We shall see how it pans out in the next few weeks, but it looks like Seven has hit another jackpot. Also interesting to note that 18-49 and 25-54 demo received almost 1m viewers.

TNT's drama slate isn't quite as strong as the common perception seems to be (and it'll become substantially weaker when The Closer finally ends its never ending final season which feels like its being going on for about three years at this point). In fact for the most part the perception of strong drama on cable is largely built on the foundation of a couple of shows and massively reduced expectations. Having said all that I still find it incredibly surprising that more (or indeed any) of USA's content hasn't found a larger British home. You'd think the likes of Burn Notice, White Collar, Suits and Covert Affairs would be able to get a foothold outside of the smaller digital channels.

I do find myself wondering if Sky might be kicking themselves slightly over this HBO deal. It doesn't seem to have worked out in quite the spectacular fashion they were hoping – primarily because HBO hasn't made anything particularly phenomenal for several years now. Although they have got VEEP and the new Aaron Sorkin drama coming up soon which should pick things up for them a little. The deal for the back catalogue was undoubtedly great but you can't help but think that the new HBO content is tying up a lot of Sky's budget on things that nobody really wants to watch and that ordinarily they probably wouldn't have brought. The fact that (bizarrely) this major exclusive deal with HBO also didn't cover arguably their only big mass appeal show (True Blood) doesn't help matters either. Has anyone worked out when or if that's moving to Sky yet? And as I said I'm amazed they let Homeland slip through their fingers (and yet brought Showtime's rather dull Borgias).

On the subject of Starz, Channel 4's problem (and I suppose everyone else's) is that Sky inherited the only show they've made that's really worth watching in Spartacus. I suppose some might be interested in Boss but its never quite as good as you want it to be.

I hope they give it another series. I've been pleasantly surprised by how well the new cast works and how much I'm still enjoying the show and to be fair I can't help but feel that Being Human is a bigger/more iconic show for them than Lip Service although the numbers may not back that up.

it looks pretty much the same as every other version of the Voice.

Maybe the BBC should just have aired the US version, and have Terry Wogan make snarky comments over it, as if it was Eurovision.

None of the judges appeal to me but I will give it a chance. It has worked everywhere else but I just get a bad feeling about this line up

do Tom Jones fans know who Will.i.am is, and vice versa?

TBH Will.i.am seems better suited to X-Factor than The Voice. Lets face it most BBC viewers will think the BBC has misspelt his name, should it ever appear on a strap.

More than likely he will bring Cheryl Cole on at some stage to assist him (maybe to assist contestants with their vocal skills) since he is her manager now

One thing about this "The Voice", in no way does it appear to be the usual BBC demo it's aimed at.

It's youthful, but a bit of a parody of youthful. Like BBC3.

and that will just make it look even more like an X-Factor wannabe. Honestly the show needs to find its own niche (if at all possible) having former X-Factor judges on it, wont help.

Maybe Will.i.am & Cheryl Cole should set up there own talent show, the niche can be that its for people with confusingly spelt names, and people who assault night club attendants.

LOL that is funny.

The Voice looks good to me. I can honestly see it being a hit. You have Tom Jones for the oldies, then Jessie J attracting the younger crowd.

Surely that's a good thing though. Pulling from a wider more diverse potential audience...

Although to be fair I could live without ever having to see Will.i.am on my television ever. He does seem like the weak link of this show at this stage.

More STV 9pm opt-outs it seems. The Fixer airs Mondays when Identity finishes. Collision on Thursdays after Kidnap & Ransom.

Is BGT likely to start with a 90 min episode?

Nice spot! I think that confirms a March 31 launch for BGT then. Good to see they're going to give TMO a BGT lead in for a couple of weeks. Also good to see they're giving Titanic a lead-in from the DOI Final (still a strong lead-in). It seems like DOI will be 7-9 for its final and not 8-10 like the last few years.

BGT normally has a 90 min launch but I guess if they're doing an extra audition show they may cut the launch to 60 mins to make up for it.

I reckon ITV will be airing Scott and Bailey and Love Life when those opt-outs occur.

So Titanic not running stripped after all and instead weekly. And as expected with BGT even if I did predict the week before.

So not what you expected then?

The shift to weekly (or at least not Easter) for Downton at Sea is interesting. Lack of confidence, or just a feel that five hours over 4 nights is too much?

What was the point of STV opting out of Shows if they are going to show them years after they were shown on ITV proper, and showing them now only seems to be displacing other new stuff which also has to be shown at a later date, they are perpetuating their own idiocacy.
