White Heat totally collapsed to just over 1 million.

Mary's Bottom Line debuted with 1.4m for C4.

Thanks to Jake Kanter for these via Twitter.

Bit daft of ITV to start LL on the night of the Masterchef final wasn't it? what happened was inevitable.

Why is whenever I go to the US the breaks are filled with stuff for old people? Old men doing oatmeal ads, incontinence pads, denture cleaners etc. etc.

only some shows - the news and daytime mainly.

Same as UK, old people watch a lot of daytime tv so no need to programme for them in primetime when you want to reach younger viewers.

Recorded White Heat and Master Chef last night to watch Love Life. That was a mistake! The review in the Independent this morning is spot on. How low can it go next week? But then John Bishop on BBC1 is probably not much competition.

I do enjoy Jeopardy. Normally on when I've been out all day and before I go to dinner.

ITV will have the second leg of Chelsea v Benfica on Wednesday April 4th and potentially the first leg of the semi final between Chelsea and Barcelona on April 18th.

They will also have the first leg of AC Milan v Barcelona on Wednesday 28th March and the second leg of the semi final between, most likely, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich on April 25th.

"EE in Crisis" won the night?

Move along now, nothing to see here...

That's pretty much the opposite of the stuff you were saying when X Factor was dipping last year. It's not about being top of the night, it's about relative expectations for shows. Nobody expects Hollyoaks to be the top soap, but it can still have relative good and bad performances.

That being said, all the shows looked pretty poor last night, not just Eastenders, though your comment is still a contradiction with your views on ITV shows.

Can't wait to see what Europa League ties Five will be showing, now that Man United and Man City are both out!

A 10 hour commission of a new drama, likely to be an expensive one, is always a risk for a commercial channel. This one won't have an X Factor lead-in and while Downton Abbey has done well for ITV1, that's one show. There's no guarantee of this working. Especially when their options might be to stick it against Call The Midwife or in a Wednesday 8pm slot that hasn't really been tested for big, glossy drama on ITV. The plan will obviously be to try and offset some of the risk by getting advance international sales.

Most watched, perhaps. But their strong 18-49 performance is driven heavily by their comedies which make up 4 of their top 5 series in the demo.

ITV don't have that kind of strength in comedy. And none of their police procedurals are going to sell in the US. This is as much a commission for ITV Studios as it is for ITV1. If it takes off, there's a lot of money in it.

That being said, Mr Selfridge is unlikely to draw huge numbers of young viewers. But it does present a slightly different (better) image of ITV drama and will hopefully draw ABC1 viewers.

Indeed, I don't think ITV has a huge problem with "non-crime drama" anymore. The problem seems to be more specific - when they target younger viewers with drama. Doc Martin, Downton Abbey and even Wild At Heart draw good numbers overall. Of course, this isn't unique to ITV. It's not even unique to the UK. The Walking Dead on AMC is right at the top of the US scripted ratings. True Blood dominates in the summer. But the broadcast nets are having a nightmare with young skewing drama.

Quote:
“Nationality does come into it a little bit. Look at the ratings for American TV shows here and compare them to similar British shows, theyre always much lower. There are still some people out there who wont watch a tv show because it has non British characters in it. Its true, if you go to a nursing home and see what people there prefer to watch- CSI or The Body Farm? Theyll choose The Body Farm cos its got English characters in it even though its 10 times worse lol.”

So long as they make sure they get a few prominent British actors involved in it then they should be fine. If they actually land Jeremy Piven it's quite a coup and probably not bad to be able to promote a new series as having a "Golden Globe and Multiple Emmy Award Winning Actor" in the lead role.

I think everyone who regularly posts on this forum is well aware of the Anti-ITV/Pro-BBC propaganda that Robbie spews.

His hypocrisy and obvious bias is actually hilariously funny to laugh at, so Robbie keep on posting. It always makes me smile.

IMO BBC/ITV are both as bad as each other, The Voice/BGT clash things proves it.

As I have posted before on here (for the ITV staff reading this thread....) the solution is obvious.

Move the show to the UK. You can bring over most of the cast. Get them setting up a Florida style wild life theme park here.

This way you get to keep the same title and cast with no costly overseas shoots or actors fed up with spending six months a year away from family and so regularly quitting. And you get a new storyline direction that could revive the show after it is starting to repeat its African plots.

They even have the bonus of the hot movie about a family buying a zoo that is based on a real UK story to give the media something to hook it onto.

Easy peasy.

He's like a broken record anything bad that ITV does he jumps straight into it, yet when the BBC does the same he doesn't say a word against it.

I think everyone is also well aware that it's not just Robbie who "spews", there's just as much Anti-BBC/Pro-ITV propaganda from the likes of Andy23, GeorgeS and Fudd.

You obviously don't come on here much. I reckon most of my posts on the wider DS fora involve me slagging off the Beeb in one way or another!
