I'm Scottish and I can tell you right now that its inconceivable that STV had the top 350 programmes last year. In other words, no eastenders, strictly, Hogmanay coverage or Scottish football (BBC Scotland hold the rights to the league cup and share Scottish cup with Sky)

I'm surprised the football got as much as 2.5 million with two non-British teams in a peaktime slot on ITV1. Shouldn't it have been on ITV4 ?

It all comes down to TV rights, UEFA Champions League on a minor channel!! The sponsors would go ape....

Decent ratings for Waterloo Road & MasterChef last night.

ouch the football crashed for ITV (ok reading it back it seems there is a reason for that), but BBC 1 failed to capitalised on that.

Yikes at the football. How much did ITV pay for the Champions League again?

Kind of ironic that they had to give up F1 to hold on to the rights (despite being the only plausible terrestrial bidder)

Well done though to EmFm being top soap yesterday, beating off Hollyoaks, Doctors and Home and Away. Well deserving of a tweet...

Channel 5 have taken DRASTIC action on the Gadget Show

from Broadcast

Quote:
“C5 takes global road trip for Gadget Show revamp

Channel 5’s The Gadget Show is set for its biggest shake-up after 16 series, swapping its studio for an international road trip format and dropping three presenters.”

obviously its behind a pay wall, so I cant post the article in full, but remember the phrase "google is your friend"

It's Jason Bradbury and Pollyanna Woodward who are retained and the other three dropped.

I suppose Suzie could do other shows plus she has another job also or did as model.
Jon is getting old now but I would still keep him as he is not to bad and one of the better presenters.
Ortis Deley can be to loud but I would keep him and put him back on kids TV or some other show but not athletics

I am shocked that Jon is going. He was only tweeting about the upcoming series the other day. And I thought they would keep Suzi over Pollyanna.

Always sad to see good presenters leave but 5 was always an excessive number for TGS. Best to concentrate on the content and making the show as good as it could be.

I suspect they wanted Jason, and Susie, but she said no, so they went with Polly instead.

They did capitalise, I doubt Waterloo Road would have been that high had there been decent opposition.

I wonder if they will return next week, as the reaction in the programme thread and on Twitter was quite negative.

I'm sure many people cried "there's nothing on!" last night, not very inspiring line-up from anyone.

I think the first series got around 700-950k, this year it started with 600k against CBB and I am sure it was around 900k-1m mark the last few weeks, but that 1.3m is the highest ever rating. Very impressive.

What are you basing that statement on? From a lot of the posts on DS forum Broadcasting - "Not Scotland what are stv playing at?" there is a heckuva lot of bad feeling towards STV re their shambolic OPT OUT policy (no Whitechapel, Law & Order UK, Benidorm etc.. etc..) , cheap imports and even cheaper homegrown fillers. For me personally STV are now miles behind BBC Scotland in terms of programming and professionalism - I don't see BBC Scotland as just a Scottish dept. at all - whilst I know it is, their quality, journalism, output and respect for the viewers are streets ahead of STV.

Bad rating for the Champions League on ITV1, terrible game too.

I dont think ITV can complain though, they have to take the rough with the smooth. When you get a contract like that you cant expect an all English final or 3 English teams in the semis every year.

The Gadget Show reboot is a lot more drastic that I ancipated, shame they dropped Suzi and Jon although I wonder if they wanted Suzi to pair with Jason but she decided not to continue, although Pollyanna's a decent presenter so I'm not unhappy.

Downton Abbey's second season ended on a high for PBS in the US. 5.4 million people watched Live+SD and there's still DVR playback across the week and scheduled replays to take into account. That's PBS' highest numbers since 2009 and the debut of Ken Burn's National Parks. And the second season has so far managed 4.8 million views online.

Across the season Downton Abbey has more than doubled PBS' primetime average and its substantially up in the demos year-on-year:

W18-34 +251%
W35-49 +145%
M18-34 +111%
M35-49 +84%

I don't currently have any raw figures though.

Too true. It's already bugging me that people are insinuating Pollyanna has only been kept on for her looks. I can only assume these people are watching a different programme to me because she brings a hell of a lot more to the show than that and is an excellent presenter.

Shocked the most about Suzi, I kind of figured she'd always be a part of it. Looks like Gadget Show Live in April will be the last time you can see the full fivesome together.
