The Oscars just wrapped - they overran about 8 minutes but fortunately ABC didn't cut off the Best Picture winners! Ratings could be rubbish this year. Tbh, I'd hardly heard of half the nominees let alone seen them.

Unless a big picture like The King's Speech or Avatar is nominated or wins, the ratings are never as high. Will be interesting if The Hobbit is nominated next year although I suspect the second part is more likely to be nominated than the first part.

The Artist while a very good film, is not one that many people in the US would have seen.

There's likely to be a BBC1 Waking the Dead Xmas special actor Wil Johnson (DI Spencer Jordan) has told The Sun.The cast are getting together soon to discuss it.
The show was axed last year after nine series.

I can't see ITV ever living the Brits fiasco down. Even their own shows.are taking the piss.

I suspect there are many Americans who haven't even heard of France full stop, let alone au fait with French cinema!

Wouldn't surprise me with The Body Farm axed and Kidnap and Ransom underwhelming this week.

Thing is they brought it to such a nice ending.

There's a place called Paris in Texas - they probably think it's set there Or it's something to do with Paris Hilton and a chain of hotels.

Seriously? I thought Trevor Eve said Waking The Dead was...er dead? Fine by me as I love that show and thought The Body Farm was an unworthy successor.

Homeland is doing great business for Channel 4, With no Call The Midwife to contend with Top Gear is back over 5m. Dancing On Ice and Wild At Heart seem slightly up but I thought they would have had a bigger boost. No surprises that Upstairs Downstairs is down but not by much. BBC1 back to solid ratings on Sunday rather than blockbuster ones they've been having for the last few weeks.

What did Upstairs Downstairs get last week?

I hope its not going to flop. I really enjoyed last nights episode but I imagine the BBC are disappointed with that rating.

I think it was 6.5m for Upstairs Downstairs last week.

Hmm, lets hope it time shifts better then. Perhaps the delayed start effected its figures.

I do hope the BBC give it a fair chance. If doesn't go below 5 million it should be recommissioned but then thesedays EastEnders only seems to get 8 million so anything over 4 is probably considered a hit.

ITV didn't rally that much post the midwife. DOI main show up a bit, mainly due to later start I imagine, and WAH seems to be clapped out now in ratings terms. Poor for DOIR, is that actually down on the week?

TG the big winner, I think that is the highest of the run. UD disappointing but understandable with the delayed start and much poorer lead in.

Wonder what the football peak was?

I would say shifting the show 50 minutes later and chopping 25mins off the runnning time boosted the DOI average. Rather than the departure of Midwife, as the share is actually down week on week.

The Skate-off which ran for the same length and in the same timeslot as last week only added 100k.

Very impressive retention for Homeland and it seems Top Gear was the only real gainer from the departure of Midwife.

ITV's evening didn't benefit as much as I expected from a lack of Call The Midwife. Do the ratings for ITV include +1?

You're right about DOI share, didn't notice that before. A slight boost though but the results show is pretty much static. Homeland did very well for Channel 4. Thought Sunday would be the wrong night but it's perfect.

10.45m for the penalty shoot out according to Jake Kanter. I bet the BBC wished they could have bought some more football after that result.

The Football League should be delighted with those numbers, as will the sponsors!

They might well be asking themselves how they have allowed the BBC to walk away from a new deal, given that they will never see those numbers again.

As will their sponsors....

Do the ITV1 figures inc. +1? The football did well and despite not much of a lift for DoI, its still a lift. I think the final is probably looking at 8m tops now. Can't see it been much higher. UD lost more viewers than I was expecting. Maybe the weird start time screwed things up. Again, does Homeland inc. +1?

Is it really fair to say WaH is clapped out? Yes, its not the hit it once was, but 6.2m in primetime is still a respectable figure and not many dramas last 7 years anyway.

Also 5.2m for TG is a series high by 0.1m.

Yes, I know its not that much higher than its previous best but it is still a high, it was a little more than 0.1m (admittedly not quite 0.2m), and significantly up on last week.

I imagine rather more Carling/Asda own brand lager is drunk amongst the ITV demographic, but BBC1 is the nation's flagship channel and can refresh the parts other beers can't reach, to coin a famous old ad slogan...

The final Call the Midwife came in at 11.36m.

All we need now is a third BAFTA nomination and first win for the wonderful Judy Parfitt.
