In the days of yore when the world was young and BBC and ITV used to show the same World Cup and European champs games with the same vision feed, the only difference being the commentators, you would hear so many viewers saying ''The BBC was better'' in terms of coverage when the pictures were exactly the same ! Thank you. Looks like CTM edged that one then.

I didn't ask for series 2, by the way.

Liverpool's victory yesterday means ITV will definitely be showing European matches involving the Reds next season in some form. Either Tuesday Night Champions League if they can get 3rd/4th in the League or Thursday Night Europa League. If its Thursday Night Europa League, they will probs put their matches on ITV1 instead of ITV4 like Man Citys game recently. "Thursday Night, ITV1" doesnt have the same ring to it as "Thursday Night, Channel 5" though.

Good job I wasn't eating corn flakes when I saw the official Call The Midwide rating or I would have spat them out everywhere. 11.41m is fantastic, with it's highest overnight of the series I certainly didnt expect the timeshift to be the highest too!

6.8m is a very respectable number for Hustle to bow out with, especially considering the first ever episode got 7.2m.

Just looking through BARB and one thing that struck me was how some of them have one or two big hits (usually imports) then a massive drop off.

Special mention to Watch which highlights this perfectly with massive numbers for Grimm then a huge drop off. These all include +1.

Watch:
Grimm - 1,086,000 (over 400% more than #2)
* Top 10 repeat showings add 790,000 = 1,876,000

MTV:
Geordie Shore - 538,000 (143% higher than #2)
* Top 10 repeats add 498,000 = 1,036,000

Alibi:
Body of Proof - 691,000
Rizzoli & Isles - 564,000 (226% higher than #3)

Dave:
Suits - 629,000
(Dave is a bit more balanced due to all those QI repeats)

Universal:
Harry's Law - 354,000 (over 100% more than #2)

They're appointment to view/PVR channels. The only programme I've ever watched on Universal is Harry's Law. Likewise I've only ever watched two programmes on Watch, Grimm and Dynamo.

Trouble is, with so much timeshifting going on (Grimm 386k > 913k), only a small percentage of the audience are catching promos for other shows.

Not strictly true is it?

Different titles, start and end-times, pre-match build-up, In-studio versus at stadium commentary box, post-match analysis.

Don't forget the advert breaks on the commercial channel

Oh, and our analogue ITV signal was pretty poor compared to BBC1.

Fools, I can't afford Sky, and ITV and Channel 5 didn't bother to bid, so this trophy will be diminished again. 10.5 million is the sort of audience figure only a select few shows get on a regular basis.

This traces back to the sixties and seventies imo. Back then the vast majority of "real" sport was on the BBC-along with arguably the best selection of commentators there will ever be. Thus the tradition grew that BBC was where its at and ITV was just making the numbers up and(over time) seen as poor. Iv still got on a dusty VHS the last edition of World of Sport and the last hour was taken up with a highlights package. Without doubt its a good watch but there are alot of gimmick moments like Eddie Kidd and some guy reciting all the football league clubs in 30 seconds or something-very few great sporting triumphs. ITV's image was wrestling, Saint and Greavsie, endless racing and gimmicks from around the world. People chant "ITV is c**p" at football matches and to a certain extent there has always been an underlying feeling in that direction where sport presentation is concerned-fairly or not.

NCIS almost sneaked in again with 528,000 (+99,000) on FX. True Blood on FX had 557,000 (Inc +1) and a further 147,000 for the Monday repeat. Quite a strong period for that channel just now with those 3 shows in originals.

The highest episode of Friends was 282,000 at 11.30am on a Sunday.

On Sky Atlanic, Blue Bloods had 506,000, Luck had 462,000 (+94,000 later that night) and Friday Night Lights seemed to get a massive lift to 110,000 (I'm sure it was way below that in overnights).

On Sky Living (inc +1), Criminal Minds had 709,000, Unforgettable had 648,000, America's Next Top Model had 543,000 and The Secret Circle had 514,000.

I don't expect Sky Sports in pubs gets a 33% uplift when the match is FTA too.

38k. But 2-300% uplifts aren't unusual for Atlantic. Don't forget it's a Sky exclusive and nearly all subscribers have Sky+ and it was on Anytime (the fifth most watched channel in enabled homes - 7.5m).

The Sunday repeat consolidated at 48k, higher than the first showing's overnights.

TG the big winner, I think that is the highest of the run. UD disappointing but understandable with the delayed start and much poorer lead in.

Wonder what the football peak was?”

Why don't you use the phrase "clapped out" for that? UD was 700k down on last week and was beaten by WAH.

Painful viewing that clip now, given how the tables have turned rather emphatically since 1995!

No.

It was ITV's doing that DA s1 didn't air in North and Central Scotland. That's their hard cheese.

But we had quite an extensive debate on this a week ago, and even rzt did his number crunching and concluded that DA would not have averaged more than 10.4m even with Northern and Central Scots included.

Not sure which figure is bigger, 11.41m for Call the Midwife or 12.25m peak figure for the Carling Cup! Superb figures for the both, the latter of which utterly dwarfs the FA Cup final figures of recent years.

I understand that, but it would be nice to see like for like.
It's like comparing the figures for Pobyl Y Cwm on SC4 to Hollyoaks on Ch4 - there's less audience available. But if rzt's averages show CTM was the likely winner, than fair enough.

I think it's great that BBC1 has found a break out hit drama in CTM. Downton did the same for ITV1, and now BBC1 has the same. It will be interesting to see if CTM could have an international appeal like DA.

I was referring to the games themselves. The pictures would be an EBU feed from the host broadcaster (no unilateral cameras in those days) with a sound commentary, sometimes even down a phone line (difficult to imagine now I know). And despite the fact the pictures were exactly the same people would so ''It was better on the BBC''.

Figures CTM series 1 for Network excluding Scotland. So should be like for like in delivery with the Downton S1 which wasn't shown in Scotland

Also, and this is probably worth pointing out:

Big Fat Gypsy Weddings: 6.027m + 1.178m = 7.205m for Channel 4, compared with an overnight of 4.81m + 858k = 5.668m, so a super final figure. Okay, down a bit on last year but I doubt Channel 4 will care about that, 7.2m is still a super figure for their channel let alone any channel.
