Would be so good if those two remained in that order so that that noisy, agressive depressing tripey soap opera was not BBC1's highest rated drama of the year.

Last year Eastenders biggest audience was 11.42m.

I dont think you need to worry iaindb, EastEnders is in poorshape at the moment and it aint gonna be getting 11m+ this year the way its going. Look out for 4 or 5m ratings for it during the Olympics!

Wow, Sun, Sex and Suspicious Parents made it into the Top 20 on BARB, when next weeks is released I am sure it will go Top 10 as I'm positive it got 1.3m in the overnights, which could equate to around 1.7m officially,

The people at EastEnders need to bloody well wake up. I know there are people in denial on this thread but EastEnders is in decline!

I think they need to stop tacking themselves for granted and realize they need to improve or face dying out. TV is now a very competitive world so standards need to be high. I suggest the writers and producers look back to past golden eras and applying them to 2012. I know it's supposed to be dramatic but it's all becoming a bit to silly.

At the moment CTM deserves EE's slot this Christmas. Hopefully the return off Sharon Watts will be the start of an improvement. They need to aim for 8-9 million touching 10 on the officials.

If they had listened to many in this thread, far from being recomissioned, it would have been pulled in the middle of the last series.

It's a headline grabbing figure, nothing more. It didn't do much for their audience share which came in at a below par 5.9% compared to 5.7% last week. On the same week last year, they averaged 6.8%. That's a 13% year-on-year decline, the biggest of any major channel. (ITV1 -11%, BBC Two -9%, C5 -4% or 0% if you include +1)

I really don't understand the exaggerated suprise about the peak for a Cup final that was decided on penalty kicks. I am not a football fan but tune in when penalty shoot outs are on. They are exciting even if you are not a supporter. The peak was more than likely due to the penalty shoot out in a cup final, it would not have peaked so high only for that in my opinion.

You can see why ITV have been pressing for the Cup Final to start at 5.15pm, for which it seems they have got their way this year.

I think it's wrong, a Saturday 3pm in May for the Cup Final is a proud tradition we mess with at our peril.

Actually, is that also going to clash with BBC1's TXF rip off?

So still beats DA.

I should note though that this still isn't a level playing field, because you have taken out the whole of Scotland for CTM but only STV for DA (it aired in Border region).

Also, because STV didn't air DA, many Scots viewed it on ITV1 England via the Sky EPG, so they have already been picked up in the ITV1 figures. No reason for any Scots to have done the same for CTM.

Hadn't actually picked up earlier on the fact AR beat WAH last night. That's why it's "clapped out", and rumoured to be facing the axe.

It's the 10.5m/12.25m figure that was the surprise - we all knew it would obviously build an audience right through ET and into penalties, that was a given. Nobody seriously expected 10.5m/12.25m Sunday teatime viewers to be there watching.

I assume nothing has been reported for the 7.15pm BBC1 news, it being sandwiched between a 10m peak and a 6.4m rating CF?

Why do people think WAH is a dying show? 6.2 million is very respectable for a Sunday night drama with considerable BBC opposition. I think the show would do best in the Coronation St slot on Thursdays that is to be vacated in the summer. Maybe it is starting to get a bit long in the tooth, but I can still see another series.

I think if Wild at Heart is axed, it'd be the highest rated returning drama series to be cancelled in the last decade or so purely based on a ratings decision. I know shows like Prime Suspect, Cracker (both 2006) and A Touch of Frost (2010) finished with higher ratings than WaH but I think they ended more because the actors decided to call it a day with them and for creative reasons.

Here's Wild at Heart's consolidated series averages:

Series 1 (2006): 9.67m
Series 2 (2007): 7.94m
Series 3 (2008): 8.16m
Series 4 (2009): 7.99m
Series 5 (2010): 7.71m
Series 6 (2011): 8.09m
Series 7 (2012): 7.63m*
* currently airing.

Ratings include HD and +1 where necessary

There was a drop after series 1 but between 2007-2011 it was steady in the high 7's/low 8's. The current series is about half a million down from last year's which I don't think is that bad considering how tough the competition has been most weeks for it. Perhaps creatively, there isn't scope for another series, but ratings-wise I think it's worth keeping around in some form. It would maybe take ITV about 5 different attempts to find a new drama series averaging that kind of 7m+ number.

Its not good when the boring old antiques roadshow gets higher ratings than it. Embarrasing. However, I like WAH

Incredible peak for the football and testament to the power of terrestrial TV to draw in those casual audiences to sporting events. Somehow quite predictable that the event should hit such huge ratings highs just before it disappears from FTA altogether. Always seems to be the way.

In other numbers, I think the BBC will be reasonably satisfied with Upstairs Downstairs. Considering the loss of a drama lead-in and your usual second-episode drops, I would have been very surprised for it to hold above 6m, so 5.8 isn't so shabby. We've been spoiled with Sunday dramas of late, to be honest, but take a step back and if UD can hold there, it's looking at high 6m-low 7m officials. Which is petty good by any normal ratings language.

Call the Midwife is of course one of those dramas thats skewed our view. An incredible first series, made all the more unlikely when you consider it's lead in (no XF-style 15m head-starts to help) and the fact it was up against two of ITV's most established big-hitters. Not to mention BBC Two's biggest show in later weeks... If there's a more surprising hit this year, then I can't wait to see it.

Just continue to be selective with your view - the "fact" is UD was beaten by WAH by 400k, and UD dropped 700k week on week. Your UD is "clapped out" already after 2 shows.

Awful rating for BBC1's Downton Abbey rip-off remake Upstairs Downstairs, 5.8m for BBC1 is really low considering BBC1's default pensioner audience that want to watch Antiques Roadshow 52 weeks a year, but it is even worse considering it was beaten by practically every other show on the main two channels last night, many of those being 'clapped out' old shows apparantly.

The posters on the UD thread are saying that last night's episode was much better than the last week's so maybe it will continue to improve.

I thoroughly enjoyed last nights episode. There could be a small increase next week.

The Tube on BBC Two tonight. It was great last week cant wait for tonight's episode. If you didn't watch last week you should give it a go.
