I doubt they will be covering the Diamond Jubilee Concert, contrary to what the article suggests, given that is being organised and broadcast by the BBC...

Yep it's exclusively on BBC ONE.

The writer of the article is the same one who said the BBC was making 'Whittington Manor' a few weeks ago

Ooh interesting so both broadcasters doing similar shows. I just did a google search and found the BBC announced first in June last year but theyre not filming series till this summer and not shown until 2013. ITV announced theirs today but filming it from April. So could it be like the Downton v Upstairs thing where the BBC announced first but ITV got in first on TV and that can affect perceptions? Whichever is shown first has better chance of success because there wont be anything else to compare it to.

It was first 'announced' last May.

I didnt know Eggheads was more popular than Deal or No Deal, I thought DOND normally got more viewers. A pity that Pointless trailed behind The Chase but The Chase did have a headstart. The Exit List is very unpopular.

Deadline are reporting that ITV are looking for an American lead.

Important to note that Benidorm didn't actually get 1.3 million last night. 1.3 million is the slot rating and will include STV, who would have showed Scotland Tonight and something else, while UTV would have had UTV Live Tonight and something else (possibly Benidorm)

Eggheads don't broadcast their show nearly 300 times a year.

Channel 4 had a very strong night. ITV1 did not. The American dramas don't appear to be in such a good position as before on Channel 5 but that could be down to the drama opposition on BBC One, though Prisoners Wives didn't pull up any trees. Despite being in apparent crisis, EastEnders won the night and was well ahead of Emmerdale.

EDIT: The Chase at 5pm beat everything else on ITV1 except for the evening news programmes and Emmerdale. That says a lot for their schedule!

ABC:
8pm - Last Man Standing - 7.38m (2.1)
* Down 5% to a series low
8.30pm - Cougar Town - 4.30m (1.5)
* Down 12% to a series low
9pm - The River - 4.09m (1.5)
* Down 12% to a series low
10pm - Body of Proof - 6.75m (1.3)
* Doing well for C5 and Alibi here but rubbish in the US

CBS:
8pm - NCIS - 18.01m (3.4)
* Most watched show of the night
* Down 11% to a season low
9pm - NCIS:LA - 15.67m (3.1)
* Only show before 10pm to be up week-on-week (+7%)
10pm - Unforgettable - 9.93m (1.9)
* Down 5% to a series low
* Down 14% from The Good Wife last year
* If there was even any doubt, it's a definite goner now

FOX:
8pm - American Idol - 15.84m (5.0)
* Down a tenth from last Wednesday
* Down 34% from equivalent Tuesday last year

NBC:
8pm - The Biggest Loser - 5.69m (2.0)
* Down 13% to a season low
10pm - Parenthood - 5.13m (1.9)
* Biggest week to week riser, up 12%
* Best rating since November
* Tied CBS in the 10pm hour

NETWORKS:
#1 - FOX - 15.84m (5.0) - Down 23% from last year
#2 - CBS - 14.54m (2.8) - Down 10%
#3 - NBC - 5.50m (2.0) - Down 13%
#4 - ABC - 5.56m (1.6) - Down 24%

Grim reading across the board. Season lows and series lows all over the place and every network posting double digit % declines from last year.

ITV results out today look excellent and the market appears to agree - ITV shares up almost 7% today.

Worth flicking through presentation slides - top document on link below.

Sports rights (ie CL / FA) savings of £35m from 2013 - this will only help the P&L by £20m as the provision release will stop but even so it's a nice little boost and that's money freed up which can be spent elsewhere.

IF the economy starts picking up even if only very slowly then ITV does look well placed - I would have thought they should be in a position fairly soon to modestly start increasing programming spend again after several years of freezes / reductions.

Plus DSO will be behind it and the Licence Fee freeze means BBC cuts in some areas and at best a freeze in BBC1 primetime etc. C4's under quite a lot of pressure and Five, whilst improving, isn't really big enough to have much impact so all in all going forward competitive pressures look like being relatively subdued.

All in all, I think ITV will be feeling it's in a good position.

Shameless doesn't really benefit from the Gypsy Wedding inheritance. Channel 4 will be very happy with GW, even though it's not hitting the heights of last series is still a huge hit both on the main channel and +1. Horizon did brilliantly last night, Body of Proof has got a loyal audience but it's finishing next week and I imagine CSI will be hitting 2-2.5m when it returns. They're heavily promoting the Ted Danson aspect.
