Surprised to see TWS talking about Elementary already, not sure +1 needs the banner to be quite as big as it is however.

Cant help but feel that, the England ratings seems fine to me, pretty sure I heard it was a friendly, and that weekend peak was only because neither team was good enough to win the game, as it went to penalties, which is all together a much more interesting game, than the 2 hours that came before it.

I would have thought "delighted to announce" would be for, who the act is, not a timing of the announcement of who it is.

Pleased to see Sian Williams is staying with the BBC when she leaves Breakfast, rather than taking the "Bleakley career suicide" route, aka ITV/Daybreak.

She gets to co-present some of the Olympics too. How's about that then Christine....?

Interesting to see the casting of Christopher Lloyd as granddad in the US remake of Only Fools and Horses. Seems a good fit character wise and might help it work. Anyone know when that pilot is due?

Besides some lazy made up newspaper stories, Sian moving to ITV was never on the cards

He is well aware of this. Taking a good ITV rating and comparing it to something much higher that is totally irrelevant to make the ITV rating seem poor is one of Robbie's specialities

And didn't take a lower BBC1 rating (UD - Sunday) and compare it to a higher ITV1 rating (WAH) recently - funny that. Maybe he's "clapped out".

Far be it for me to praise ITV1 (clears throat) but 6.54m for a friendly is pretty decent, especially against a sturdy BBC1 lineup.

Quote:
“Food Inspectors - 5.1m
Waterloo Rd - 4.06m
Masterchef - 3.76m”

Quote:
“Ouch at Emmerdale 6.37m (30.5%)”

Lowest non Emmerdale episode in 2012. On Dec 26th 2011 it was 5.57m.

The Football the most rated program of the night then with an unusually low rating for Emmerdale, even taking into account the football. BBC One dented unsurprisingly, but a very good rating for The Health Inspector at 7:30pm no doubt benefiting against the football build-up.

Can anyone explain why on three different ITV programmes today they have said that Davy Jones (1945 - 2012) was in Coronation Street in 1961 aged 11?

He was 15 when Coronation Street started in 1960 - and 16 in 1961.

But the same non sequitar has been repeated all day today.

What a ridiculous set of ratings when the cheapest nastiest most daytime-esque programme beats the rest of the schedule including the news and other major BBC1 brands.

It's no wonder BBC1 is in such a strong position when over 5m will watch The Food Inspectors. Maybe to save money BBC1 should axe their prime time programmes and air Homes under the Hammer and Bargain Hunt in prime time, they'd probably get higher ratings!

You call 18.8% a strong position! That's a terrible night for BBC One.

From the world of Twitter...

Anita Singh (Daily Telegraph showbiz)

oh my goodness, I know who is representing the UK at Eurovision this year and it is beyond brilliant. Official announcement at 10.30pm

Can't reveal until tonight. But if I tell you it's a Grammy-nominated, platinum-selling artist... you still won't guess it

But I''ve got to be honest - if you're of tender years you'll hear the name and say "Who??!" Now I must stop with the clues

The Railway Arms (Ashes To Ashes fan group)

MadDogs series 2 on @sky1insider had a consolidated average audience of 1.54m, down very slightly on S1 (1.59m)

Well they've given the head of daytime an extra 30 hours of peak time to play with - so expect more daytime-esque shows filling primetime in the near future.

I must say I think BBC1 has been the worst channel the last few weeks.
There has been nothing on there as I hate soaps like Eastenders.
In fact TV has been terrible for weeks its hard to believe the 1TB box was once down to just 11% on the planner at xmass and now its well up at 23% because there has been nothing worth watching in prime time.

Football has become more important to ITV1 as its one of the few times younger men will watch the channel. It seems that their policy of buying up big games is working as 6.54 million for a friendly is very good.

6.5m isn't that good. First (and maybe only) game in charge for Stuart Pearce, new captain, against a big team with a lot of big name players and a big tournament coming up in 3 months. The game had a lot going for it.

There have been numerous games on ITV1 in the last few years that have got more than 7m.

Its hardly terrible.

18.8% would be OK on any night, let alone against an England game on ITV1.

Notice little has been said about Emmerdale's low rating last night.
Had that been EastEnders we would have had about 50 pages

Also EastEnders ran from 7:27-7:56 tonight

Call me old fashioned but 20% would be my target. Any lower I consider that Poor. Thing is I really don't want BBC One to fall below 20%. It's going to happen one day.

What are predictions for NBC tonight? Only network showing all originals from 8-10, really want to know how well Awake is expected to do?

I don't suppose the Eurosong entrant will be someone with something to do with the Beeb's TXF rip off?

And/or that there is a reason for announcing it on St Davids Day?

Why 10.30, is it being revealed on Newsnight?

Maybe as it's third in the pecking order, but I wouldn't even get worried, same as this Eastenders in crisis rubbish is just because the soap has had a few slow weeks. A few months ago you can imagine what the headlines were saying about another soap.
OK ratings are well down on the soaps heyday as there is much more competition now and they're not such must see television as they were decades ago. However, the big three soaps can pull in anything from 6 to 10 million vieweres in such a competitve market every week and for all I find them boring, they are guaranteed income streams for ITV and proof the BBC is delivering mass appeal television.

Quiet on here today. Around Christmas when we're burning through 10,15 or 20 pages a day, it feels like the thread will never slow down again, but it always does when the ratings interest fades.

And there's not a whole lot to write home about from last night. The England match did solidly enough for a friendly, though nothing too surprising. BBC One actually benefitted in the 7.30 hour, but the football squeeze hit it's line-up then. I'm often left rather underwhelmed by both WR and Masterchef, especially considering the number of hours on the schedule both are afforded. But then both are probably valued a little more highly than the raw figures suggest thanks to demos. They're not massive ratings winners, but they do hit some spots most BBC One bankers leave untouched.
