The answer here is surely to start EE (or whatever is at 7.30pm) at 7.25pm and have the news as a standalone programme at 7.55pm. That way the understandable complaints from those recording 7.30pm shows can be overcome”

Firstly don't all PVRs now record the show, not the time - everyone I have had certainly does, but don't know about Sky+.

And secondly surely the BBC should have shaved off a couple of minutes off the running time of 7.30pm shows then they introduced the update just before 8pm.

Anyhow EE fans are just clutching at straws to blame a 7.27pm start for a fall in ratings. For as long as I can remember soaps - and all shows - have started up to 3 minutes earlier or 4 minutes later than the published start time, and broadcasters are within their rights to do that.

Channel 5 had a pretty good night it seems.

Biggest ever audience for the show! Judging by his tweets I think Mark Dixon (one of the truckers featured) is going to be on TV Burp tonight.

Great news. Why doesnt Channel5 put Eddie Stobart at 9pm away from the soaps, it could get 2million viewers which is doube Channel5's target.

This Morning was one but another was the ITV news and a third Granada Reports.

All had a caption saying that Davy Jones was born in 1945 and reported he was in Coronation Street in 1961 at the age of 11.

Several national newspapers made the same claim.

By irony the press the next day was full of stories about terrible adult numeracy figures and set out DIY maths sums for readers to try.

Not sure how successful these sums were at ITV.

But I suspect it was just them all 'researching' via net encylopedia as these could be misread as implying this obvious nonsense when they really noted that he started acting at 11 and was then in Coronation Street.

Benidorm was cancelled last night and replaced with Holiday On The Buses. I caught the bit where Blakey was giving the holidaymakers dance instruction.

Journalists all studied English at school so they're all rubbish at maths.

Thursday's episode was written by ITV/This Morning's resident soap expert Sharon Marshall - so maybe it was sabotage...

YES the show is finally starting to see ratings that reflect the over all quality of the show at the moment. Kirkwood has to be got rid of, the sooner the better.

Eddie Stobarts: The Garage
Eddie Stobarts: The Apprentice
Eddie Stobarts: Drivers Wives
Eddies Trucks, A milkshake cartoon a bit ilke Thomas the Tank, but with Lorries instead of Trains and the Fat Control is replaced with Eddie Storbart.

Yes, it was fine. I wonder if she'd ever written any scripts before she joined 'Enders.

Looks like Wednesday 21st March could be a very strong night for BBC One:

19:30 - EastEnders
- bumped due to Sports Relief
20:00 - Waterloo Road
21:00 - The Apprentice

The Apprentice's start date is unconfirmed, but Wednesday 21st looks likely. Also (thanks to Elgin for this), the DVD release of the new Silent Witness series has been pushed back to early June. Series 2 of Silk also out then. So it seems BBC One in April and May will have Silent Witness on Monday & Tuesday, The Apprentice on Wednesday, Silk on Thursday and HIGNFY/Not Going Out on Friday. Savage is also expected around that time, so it looks very strong for BBC One.

In other news, Channel 4 have pulled The Mad Bad Ad Show, unsurprising after its dire rating last week.

Seems ages since a low rated show was actually pulled - recently most have been aloud to rather undeservedly see out their series.

The Bank Job has had it's finale bought forward a week, but they're having what has to be the last roll of the dice with two celeb specials the week after. I guess Million Pound Drop will be back in the slot within a couple of weeks (C4 don't usually compete against Sport Relief) - but Friday nights are just getting worse and worse for them. IMO their only new hit of the last year or so on Friday nights has been Friday Night Dinner - all their panel shows and formats have pretty much failed.

Compared to the 5pm news that's poor surely? It's up against BBC Regional News & ITV National News. Would they not be better ditching it and sticking to 5pm, and trying something else in that 6.30pm slot?

Hi. Unfortunately, a second bulletin is required in peak in order to meet quotas set for the channel by pointless quango Ofcom. Of course, airing so soon after the first and directly against more established news programmes, it has little hope of finding an audience of note. But at least it airs outside of primetime now so doesn't drag them down during the most important period of the day.

Heh. He's certainly a character, even if he can't sing for toffee. Harry Hill was on fine form this evening.
