When you watch it, it becomes much easier to understand why its being linked to Downton it really is just Downton on a boat and I don't think it works. Although I've never been particularly enamoured with Downton so just sticking it on a boat was never going to be great for me. The format for it is the big sticking point though especially if its being aired weekly rather than stripped. If I were the BBC I'd probably give it a clear launch night on week one and then roll out something big from week two onwards because I'm fairly sure Titanic will collapse in that situation.

Broadly speaking nobody liked Revenge at the international screenings. And those who did like it felt there was very little chance it would get a back 9 or second season and didn't want to tie up large sections of their programming budget in it as a result. ABC have burnt their bridges with a lot of broadcasters in recent years and that makes a lot of their productions difficult to sell. That I think they were asking for a fairly ridiculous amount for Revenge doesn't help either. In general though I'm not particularly surprised it hasn't been picked up because it really isn't very good and has 'will fall apart in season two' written all over it.
Person of Interest is a slightly more interesting one. Given the push that was given by CBS (a fairly safe pair of hands for US procedurals) I'm surprised more people haven't bitten. I would assume that's down to pricing. Abrams name will mean that its asking for a lot and the international market seems to have learnt the lesson that the US market hasn't, namely that Abrams does not add up to viewers. Having said that again its not a very good show although I'm told it has gotten better as the season has progressed.
To be completely honest its been a pretty uninspired couple of years for drama in the US (for broadcast) and that's why no one is buying. In part this is because the networks have mostly been focusing on finding new comedies (Channel 4, Sky and Comedy Central are really the only channels in the market for US comedy at this stage and they have been buying those).

I hadn't realised Full Circle was up against Heartbeat. I thought it was a 9pm show. I seem to recall Full Circle not rating anything like as well as Around the World and Pole to Pole, or Himalaya and Sahara that followed, so that may be the reason.
Perhaps there is a lesson there if the Beeb are thinking of putting Palin's Brazil up against Downton this autumn.
Strange choices as you say for BBC1 and ITV in their original schedules for the Sunday 9pm slot - Airplane II and an Alright on the Night repeat.

My first feeling is that this round at least reminds me of Dragons Den, the coaches obviously being the Dragons. Then I remembered that the Dragons are not on swinging chairs, and know full well what they are investing in.
Also for the talk of the coaches competing to mentor a singer, the 4 coaches all come from a different background, Tom Jones and Will.i.am being the best example of this, and whilst a varied panel is good for the show, its going to e fairly easy for everyone to know who would make the best coach.
Also with all due respect to Jessie J, she is hardly the most experienced of the group, its a shame they cant have got another female judge, like say Andrea Corr.

As much as you would like to think so, there is no link between buying The Voice and losing part of F1. The sports budget had to be reduced, F1 was a casualty as well as many other sports, the fact the Beeb still have half the races live and extensive coverage of the whole season is very good, they could easily have lost it all. The Voice is an entertainment show, it has no effect on sports rights. The only thing that buying The Voice means is less SYTYCD, Hole In The Wall or Dont Scare The Hare type shows, I cant see too many tears being shed for them.

They still would be best of just giving it to a Sky channel straight away though. Nearly all imports peak in their first couple of seasons and by the time Sky potentially grab Homeland, the show will be on the decline and C4 will have got the most out of it.
You only have to look at how much Glee has fallen since it moved to Sky1, often under 1m in the officials and beaing beaten by numerous other Sky shows.

It is very easy to list off reasons why The Voice's Blind Auditions shouldn't (or won't) work and on paper I agree with most of what you and others have said on the subject but the reality of every version of the show I've seen is that the Blind Auditions work incredibly well. They appear to be gimmicky nonsense (because they are) but something about that gimmicky nonsense just works and makes for some surprisingly entertaining television. It doesn't matter that its sometimes obvious who they'll chose as a mentor when given the choice because sometimes it isn't and if, as they have in every other version of the show, the coaches actually get competitive about securing the best singers for their team then it adds in another level to the show.

I've really enjoyed the audition rounds on the American (S1) and Irish versions but I stopped watching from the battleground onwards as it just felt dull. However there is no doubting that the blind auction round makes for very good TV.
My biggest fear about the UK version is the coaches. The suggestion is that there was good chemistry between them but as individuals they are not exactly the most likable panel. For me, Will I Am, Tom Jones and Jessie J are all rather irritating but obviously they will each have their supporters.

Point 1 is obviously much more significant than point 2.
But point 2 is also relevant:
Soccer Saturday is a far more important programme than Soccer AM - wasn't it posted on here that Soccer Saturday had a peak audience of 1.4m. That's in a completely different league to Soccer AM.
Soccer AM is lightweight, take it or leave it "general entertainment" - Soccer Saturday is far more of a programme that people take a conscious decision to watch.
As for the HD, the value of HD on Soccer Saturday (and on SSN generally) is the graphics - recall the debate on here about when SSN changed their graphics to make them smaller which meant some people had trouble reading them in SD.
If Sky didn't think having SSNHD exclusive was of value to them they would lower the price to what VM is willing to pay and let VM have it.

You've watched the Irish version and you are worried about the UK coaches?
I've watched, or tried to watch the Irish version, it is IMO TERRIBLE. Now I must admit I don't like TXF or BGT either but I thought from they hype that this would be different.
It's not, just the same old pap but with revolving chairs. I can't see this being a hit at all.

I guess given it was the last weekend in August they were essentially place holders for the new season which began in September. Would be interesting to see the schedule for the following Sunday.

If I were the BBC I'd definately be looking to minimse the Battle phase. I think they've said each coach will have 10 acts, so I'd either make a week long event out of it with 1 act per coach eliminated each night - or have a double header on the Saturday and Sunday with two coaches eliminating acts one night and two the next. Looks like they only had two fliming dates for the battle rounds so I'd assume it's just two shows.
I think it's been said they'll have 4 audition shows, then assuming the two Battle shows are on Saturdays the live shows would begin on 5th May. I would assume two top 20 shows, two top 16 shows and then a top 12, top 8 and the final 4 - so 7 live shows would take it to the 16th June. Actually we know BBC1 has a double header of Euro 2012 games on the 9th, so a final clash with BGT on the 2nd a possibility then, with shows on consecutive nights for rounds where two shows might be required.

Also there was further disruption to the schedules the following week due to Diana's funeral. Free Willy was put in Casualty's place on Saturday 6th. Casualty was pencilled in for Sunday 7th because of the funeral the day before, but Mother Teresa's death meant it had to be moved to 9.30pm on Thursday 9th (where I'll assume it got a pretty low figure - sub 10m definitely). So they showed two episodes that week - Thursday and Saturday 11th, which got around 11m. I also think The Bill was delayed on Friday 5th Sept due to an ITN News Report.
Strong performance by The Voice on NBC last night, despite entering the battle round stages. It had its best performance since the post-Superbowl Monday airing and way up on last weeks show.

Against repeat competition NBC's Super Monday was up on last week. The Voice rose 13% on the Daytona impacted outing last week averaging a 6.1 across its two hours. That's also up a tenth vs. two weeks ago and a noticeable increase on the Battle Rounds last year where the numbers dropped significantly. Of course it also moved to an hour long slot at 10PM at this stage last year so that's not exactly apples to apples. Smash was up 17% against repeats at 10PM. That will have locked in its second season which was already pretty much set in stone.
ABC's The Bachelor was down a tenth on last week with a two-hour average of 2.5. Over on Fox Alcatraz limped toward the finishing line with a two-hour double bill that was even with its last one hour original two weeks ago. The 8PM showing was up a tenth from that mark with a 1.9 though.
Everything else was in repeats.

Alcatraz is a goner, I imagine Touch will be renewed just because FOX needs something to fill Mondays and I can't see The Finder succeeding either.

Touch isn't airing on Monday's any more. Fox saw sense on that particular piece of mad scheduling. It'll air on Thursday at 9PM now (out of Idol) with Bones moving to Monday 8PM and House to 9PM. In truth I think that's probably the best line-up Fox can put together for the rest of the season and it potentially solves a couple of problems at once. Bones should be OK for a 2+ on Monday which gives them a foothold of sorts on Monday for next season, House is now expendable in that killer 9PM slot for the rest of the season and Touch gets the best chance to actually find an audience and potentially gives Fox a strong Thursday night drama which they've been looking for, for years now. And the timing of that couldn't be better looking at how Thursday 9PM is going for everyone else.
The Finder is now unofficially cancelled. It'll finish its run on Friday and then I suspect never be seen from again. Unless it does surprisingly well on Friday which seems incredibly unlikely. As things stand the Fox schedule looks to be pretty much locked in for next season:
Monday: Bones / New Drama
Tuesday: Glee / New Girl / New Comedy
Wednesday: The X Factor / Comedy
Thursday: The X Factor / Touch (or New Drama)
Friday: Unscripted
Saturday: Cops / Repeats
Sunday: Animation Domination
In other ratings news out of the US AMC's The Walking Dead was Sunday's biggest show.
The Walking Dead 3.5 [6.77]
That's a tenth ahead of ABC's Once Upon A Time and a good six tenths against the other closest broadcast competition. It more than doubled the nearest competition on cable (Storage Wars with a 1.6). And that was just the original 9PM airing the 11PM repeat had a 0.8 in the demo and 1.47 million viewers.
In other cable news Lifetime's Army Wives returned with a 1.2 in the demo a 3.63 million viewers. Showtime's Shameless had a 0.8 in the demo and Breakout Kings second season began with a respectable 0.8.
