We were having a discussion at work today about singers/groups who started out in the 60s/70s/80s and are still mega successful today.
Obviously names like the Rolling Stones, Elton John, Rod Stewart, U2, REM etc were banded about.
It got us thinking about the current crop of artists enjoying great success.
Who out of the current successful solo artists/groups would you put money on still being 'up there' 10 or 20 years from now? (Barring drugs overdoses etc)

We came up with Robbie Williams, Coldplay and Will Young. Who else do you reckon and for what reason? (You don't need to particularly like them. Be objective)

Depressingly enough we struggled a bit for names.

Superstars of 2020 anyone?

Alex Parks, (I know I know, heard it all before). But I really do think she will be mega. just wait and see . Her next album will surprise a lot of people.
I agree about Will Young. I also think Natasha Bedingfield will be up there, long after her brother has slipped out of the public eye.
The Darkness also may well have longevity, I think their next album will determine whever they are a flash in the pan or not.

I can still see Morrissey knocking out the odd album in his 70's, being semi-reclusive and semi-retired, rather like Leonard Cohen.

I genuinely cannot come up with even one name. While there are artists and music I like around now none of them are new sounding or innovative enough to have such longevity IMHO. The Stone, Beatles etc etc were all so new and revolutionary, good and talanted that is what has made them keep going. I don't think any of the pop stars etc around now have that.

Coldplay have disappeared off the map.. No doubt Robbie Williams will still be around, the Black Eyed Peas have the oppurtunity to stay around if they continue to produce good albums and Usher may also still be there :P

I think Radiohead and Coldplay will be around (and probably successful) for as long as they want to keep going. Also, probably Joss Stone as she's so young and hasn't realised her full potential yet .

I read he's the second biggest UK star behind only Robbie Williams, and he will only grow.

Like the majority of us - Will thought WI was a waste of time - he'll have a bigger career than any one of those other Idols.

I reckon Lemar could be around in years to come too.
