It would but it would never happen as Kate Bush never likes performing anymore.

It would be amazing but I can't see it happening. I thought that she might possibly appear on Jools Holland or something when she released her album last year but if she doesn't even want to do that then I can't see her performing for billions at the Olympics.

She won't ever do a tour due to stage fright so I really can't see this happening at all, sadly.

It's never been due to stage fright

More the case of the pressure of putting a whole show on to it's last detail. Plus she was put off touring when one of her crew died when she did her first and only touring. I like Kate Bush but in my opinion, it's a case of Can't Be Asked. But the fact it is her, i will kinda let her off.

I am a fan of Kate Bush, but I cannot see her preforming on stage let alone the Olympics

Does she do anymore Small Shows, like Preforming on TV?

I do love Kate but it can only be Adele. It is the Year of Adele.

I've heard that the Brit Awards won't give her the Outstanding Contribution award because they would require her to perform live for it and she won't do it. I'm not sure of the truth of that but she is one of those artists who has become quite conspicuous by her absence from that honour over the years.

The olympics is a chance to show of our entire culture not just from the last twelve months or it would be a line up consisting one direction, adele, and cher lloyd :eek

And i love kate to pieces but she will probably never tour again or is likely to perform anytime soon but yes our best british female performing there would be great

In a recent interview with Classic Rock she said she was starting to warm to the idea of playing live again and she wouldn't rule out doing another tour.

I don't think a statement of British identity is defined by just what's popular or been good for marketing sales this year.

What impressed me about the New Year fireworks display in London was the music being played which mixed together some of the best of British music from the last few decades. All mixed up, different genres, and in no particular order. That gave me a sense of feeling good to be British.

We get what's currently popular thrust at us almost every single day. It's just predictable.
That's why I think somebody like Kate Bush is one interesting and decent example.
It doesn't necessarily have to be her but I get the angle where the OP was coming from.

Yes, Kate has previously turned down the award because it would require her to perform on the night...such a pity!

I really, really hope she decides to perform live. It would be a shame if she were to pass away having never performed again. She is one of this country's most outstanding musical talents, and I've no doubt she would be more popular if she were to open herself up to a bit more publicity.

I agree

Plus think of today's generation who have yet to discover her. She could easily appeal to a new generation through her vintage hits.

and, yes, I get the angle the OP was coming from too but Adele is No.1 all over the world and it would be just perfect for her to do it. She is from London and the Olympics are in London.

I suspect you are not a fan of Adele but, in my eyes, she would be perfect.

I thought 2011 was the year of Adele.

I like her, but I feel like taking a rest from her as well. I'd like someone else to get a bit of spotlight for a change.

No, no problem with Adele. I wouldn't buy her music but she's a very good singer and I wouldn't want to take anything away from her success.

You say but Adele is number 1 all over the world, as though that somehow should instantly be criteria to qualify her. As though current financial success and popularity is reasoning in itself.

It's as I say, that I just think it's too predictable to just bring in the flavour of the month because they're selling lots of records right now.

I just don't think she's the best choice to represent what makes Britain intrinsically British. Her music actually appears to represent America more than it does Britain.

So when, precisely, did she "retire"?

Her last two albums, Aerial and 50 Words For Snow, were both critically and commercially very successful so in what was doesn't she "cut it" any more?
