Samsung smart tv

Help! Can't seem to get going. TV is connected to the network but I don't appear to be able to get past the ID stage. Keep looking at the E Manual to set up a smart hub ID but the screen I'm supposed to get, to set this up doesn't appear when I press the A red button. I get a screen for a Samsung ID. I tried completing this anyway but only get as far as the @ in my email when it goes off and goes back to the blank screen to start again. Wished I'd have bought a new computer but being the wrong side of 60 and failing eyesight, it seemed a good idea to have Internet etc on a big screen. Would be good to get any advice in idiots guide terms. Thanks.

There's no browser on this model.
You can get apps such as iplayer, YouTube

You need an I'd for lovefilm. What screen are on on for an I'd, what app ? Are you pressing enter but without putting all the details in?

Does that mean I won't be able to access the Internet at all. I thought once I was connected to my network, that would be it. I've used the iplayer and YouTube but for others such as Facebook need an ID. The E Manual had a section for smart hub set up. I followed the instructions but did not get the same screen when pressing the red A button as I should have got. It's totally lost me now and if I'm not going to be able to get Internet, it seems not worth me getting stressed up about it. I was under the impression I would get Internet when I bought it but then again it doesn't take much to baffle me these days.

you can access internet enabled apps, but you can't browse the internet.

iplayer, youtube etc use internet access to give you the content.

facebook requires you to login using your existing facebook account.

Sorry, think I'm still going wrong somewhere or missing something. Just clicked on Facebook, says connecting, then I get a login screen.......Samsung acc and password. Put in my Facebook acc details but says account not recognised.

you must be using the wrong Facebook login details then.
it will be your email address and password.

to be honest though, i wouldn't bother.
a TV is not the appliance for browsing facebook etc. it's a truly awful experience.

The only way you can browse th internet is by connecting your computer up to the tv, there is no actual web browser with samsung internet tv.

I think it's wrong how they advertise these tv's as internet tv's as it makes people think you can browse the internet with them like using a computer.

but they do access the internet, so the marketing term is correct.

just because a customer makes a wrong assumption does not mean the product is to blame.

At last, I've eventually got into Facebook but alas you're right chenks it seems rubbish, I've wasted so many hours faffing about with this too. Akhenaten....I agree, think I've been conned. I explained in the store about wanting a big screen to see better when on the Internet, however no-one mentioned to me about not being able to browse.
Thanks for all advise and assistance.......much appreciated

You might need to change to table view.
It says that it does not have a browser.

A TV cannot replicate the functions and applications of a pc. Perhaps the shop should have explained that to you.
Perhaps they also carefully answered your questions but made sure they did not expand on their answers. Clearly the tv does connect to the internet, it just doesn't do everything you thought it might. So if the question was "Does it connect to the internet" the answer "Yes" is valid but does not give a full explanation.

Whether you can exchange it or not depends where you got it from.

the smart tvs are still a great idea.. however, i don't own one.. instead i bought 2 smart tv set top boxes.. one is made by lg (it is very small roughly 4'' x 4'' x 1'') it has a built in wi-fi connection and the other one is made by sony.. it doesn't have a wi-fi connection.. it needs an ethernet cable to connect it to your router.. i had to bear in mind the position of the tv, the router and the sony unit.. the sony unit also includes a great blu-ray player.. for what it does that one was a real bargain.. it cost me £99 in asda! (a lot cheaper now) it uses the same crossbar menu as a sony ps3.. the reason for my post is i think you may be interested in the lg smart tv set top box because that unit does have a web browser.. it also lets you increase the magnification of the web page.. for example i have bbc news technology page on the screen just now.. why that one? well it also remembers my browsing history.. i just click on history tab, then scroll down to the address and select it.. the image on the tv is great.. fonts are clear.. as are images.. some better than others as the image is only as good as the source.. the only thing it cant do is play moving images.. this because you need flashplayer and it is not installed on the lg box.. it does come with the apps and channels provided.. bbc iplayer and youtube for example.. both units are easy to connect to the net.. there are numerous settings for you to play with which will take a few days to get through and learn.. the apps on the lg box are updated regularly.. just download the ones you like and delete them when you no longer need them.. here is a link to let you see what they look like..

Thms......thanks for the link to view the lg smart tv set top box. This seems as though it would be ideal for me, especially being able to increase magnification of web pages too.
Not so sure about taking a few days to get through and learn the settings, a few weeks maybe, but hey, I've spent a couple of weeks messing about with this, so what's a couple more if it means getting the result I'm after. Thank you so much.

And to tealady......I was aware it did connect to the Internet but I was also led to believe I would be able use the Internet for google etc. I doubt I could get an exchange at this point in time and it would be my word against theirs as to what I was told at time of purchase.
I shall put the whole thing down to experience.......or lack of, on my part, but thank you anyway.

Yeah i get what your saying, but i think most people, especially who are not that tech savy, would automatically asume that internet means you can browse the internet, and it's not made clear enough that you can't.

the remote control is small.. it could do with being longer because some of the buttons you use often are near the bottom.. but you get used to it.. your thumb rests on a centre spot.. by sliding your thumb up and down left or right you can guide a large green arrow/cursor across the screen.. the magnification feature is good.. there are 4 coloured buttons and by pressing two of them you can increase or decrease the image which is handy.. the box is a bit like marmite.. you love it or you hate it.. i would rather have it.. than not have it.. but it does require patience.. one other thing.. i have sky broadband and a good download speed.. importantly it is unlimited and there is no throttling during peak periods.. until i upgraded my sky broadband a year ago it was difficult to do much with it between 5pm and midnight..

I have a "Smart TV" which incorporates a browser: it still sucks. A great TV but the internet feature is totally underwhelming.

i re-arranged some of my tv devices and have now attached my lg smart tv upgrader to the tv in my living room..it will get more used in there.. couple of changes since my last post on this little unit.. i was trying the web browser and was surprised to find that where the ads would normally be on digitalspy a little icon was showing for flashplayer 9? usually that space is blank.. after a few minutes ads began to run on digitalspy.. the lg box had downloaded and ran flashplayer 9 automatically.. later when i was looking at the esctoday website.. one of the articles happened to have a youtube player.. to watch you tube you need flashplayer 10.. but i clicked on it anyway to see if flashplayer 9 would make any difference.. to my surprise i found it played the song, but not the video.. so an improvement.. just to add there are several dedicated channels on the lg smart tv upgrader, including one for you tube.. the graphic user interface for the you tube channel was recently improved and easier to navigate.. it looks good too..
