Netflix payment problem
coachtrip_fan99

Hi

Netflix keep on telling me that there is a problem with my payment card,

Quote:
“Because of a problem with the payment method currently on file for your account, we're having difficulty processing your membership. Please visit the Payment Method page in Your Account and review the payment method details currently on file.”

I have re-entered my Visa details, and they are definately correct. Ive never ever had any problems using the card elsewhere!

But the message still keeps popping back up!

Am I gonna have to give them a call?

I did read somewhere that they were experiencing difficulties with some banks payment cards, remember RBOS being one of them also a couple of others, but can't think who thy were now.
I'll have a hunt and see if I can find the info

Yeah according to their Twitter helps page they're having some issues with some RBS Visa cards and suggest at the moment try using a different card which is either yours or you can use someone else's if your able to.

Im with Natwest, but that is the part of the same chain as RBS, isn't it?

I do have other cards, but don't want to really use a credit card for it, as I only have them for emergencies.

I suppose that all depends on if not having Netflix counts as an emergency or not
You could always make the payment on your credit card then as soon as the payments been made pay off the exact amount straight away with your natwest card to your credit card.
Then that way you've still got Netflix until they sort out the payment issues.

no - it doesn't count as an emergency to me! I can live without it.

at the moment I can still access netflix.

if they cant take payment then thats their problem really, I'm not going to jump through hoops to use their service, can't be bothered with all that paying it off the credit card business.

I had a problem using a NatWest (RBS) VISA Debit card when I first signed up to the trial. NatWest thought it was an instance of card fraud (perhaps as Netflix had only just launched in the UK) and I had to phone NatWest and get the card unblocked.

Natwest Visa didn't work for me or my partner either. Used a Natwest Mastercard instead and works fine. Would rather use my Debit card mind.

My Natwest Visa Debit worked fine.

I had the same problem with my NatWest card, managed to fix it by cancelling then reactivating my Netflix account.
Don't worry about ratings and stuff as it kept them all.

would it be anything to do with me using the unblockUS server to access USA content?

No not at all, they're just having issues with some RBS Visa cards which they're trying to resolve.
You could always give customer services a ring to find out what the issue is on 08000966379 available 24/7

I spoke with Natwest who advise that Netflix are trying to take a Visa Credit Card payment rather than a Visa Debit Card Payment. And that is why the payment gets rejected. They advise I call Netflix and ask them to change how they are trying to take the payment.

When you enter your payment details on the Netflix site it does not give you the option to select Visa Credit or Visa Debit. I just decided to use a credit card I never use for the payments as it's set up to clear the balance each month, so I won't get charged any interest. I guess unless Netflix updates it's payment system they're going to lose money.

Have you tried cancelling and reactivating your Netflix account? Worked for me, and a few other people I've seen with the same problem.

I can confirm that reactivating worked for me too...

I have a NatWest Visa debit card.

Problem is back! This is absolutely pathetic...Netflix don't deserve custom if they can't sort out a simple issue like this.

Talk to Netflix then. Keep complaining TO them until they sort it out.

Eventually they might move to a more sensible direct debit-based system, but until then you need to harass and hound them until they sort it out. It's the only way companies learn, oftentimes.

Personally, mine is working fine and I have no problems with the service at all.

I've had this problem in the past with certain websites, though I never had a problem signing up to Netflix with a Natwest Visa Debit card.

Wouldn't using direct debit make it more difficult to cancel and resubscribe than using a bank card/credit card?

Why would you need to cancel and resubscribe? The only reason it seems people are doing it here is because of problems with card payments...
