It still had that Madonna 'stamp' though. It was not anonymous dance pop. And Human Nature was the best ever 'F--k You!' song. Ever!”

Yep there was the 4 songs by Andre Betts, thankfully never to be heard of again. I never listen to Did You Do It? and Secret Garden, i don't mind Waiting and Where Life Begins but it is far from her best work.

I like Erotica as an album and if she had not made the change in music direction at that time she would not have stayed relevant. The constant change in musical style since kept Madonna on top, some albums worked better than others Bedtime is a total let down for me, ROL was fantastic and i was so please she made Music after ROL and she didn't attempt ROL part 2, which was the safe option.

As you said Bedtime was influenced by the work Toni and TLC were doing (I think TLC were huge at the time in the US). Madonna was following the trend not setting it. Madonna was setting the trend with ROL. This is my main problem with the new song, it's no better and in some cases worse than songs that are out there now and for the last few years.

When i heard she was working with Martin Solveig i was excited, i was expecting a move forward from the excellent songs he did with Dragonette (Boys and Girls plus Hello one of last years stand out tracks), this does not seem to have happened, we have got a euro-pop song that as someone else said could be Cascada.

I am still hopeful for the album, believe it or not i was not overly keen on Frozen when i first heard it, i thought not another ballad, but once i heard Frozen in the concept of ROL i loved it. I do not expect to love GGW but i hope i grow to like it when the rest of the album fits around it.

I do feel that the song will suit the theme of the album and will sound bigger on the album...the prayer intro has me in shudders everytime...it just really brings back my mentality of the Erotica/LAP/Blonde AMbition Madonna that whole height that whole religious connotation...but its not blatant.

The funny thing is people say lyrically its nothing special....but its a song that reminds us of ehr rebellion and an attitude we can all relate to i feel...its about fighting what people should think of us...fighting against the stereotype so to speak.

Madonna is 53...so what...she is sexy, an awesome Dancer and Dance is in her blood...just you try and stop her! some fans are Welsh, Italian, Scottish, Cornish () its about you know what...sod the stereotype....imma sweat to these beats and feel freedom.....its a simplistic song...but its about freedom!

The prayer at the beginning, the mix of tones vocally, the tempos of the beats intoxicating and the "forgive me" just absolutely OWNED! definitely.

Also i am in particular intrigued by "gang bang" and how this will flow into it. Love it when Orbit mixes uptempo/high energy sounds with M as well as the mid tempos so cannot wait to hear that.

MDNA is gonna smash i cannot wait...i find it difficult to judge everything until i hear the album in full...but my reaction to everything thus far has just...well...YAY!

It wasn't someone else, it was me. But I'm pleased we agree. I can't believe I'm so disappointed in a Madonna record, but for me it's like the Beatles making a "yeah! yeah! yeah!" song after they made Get Back.

Madonna, you are better than this...

I'm not here to argue whether or not you think Bedtime Stories is her worst album, to claim it as terrible though is utter madness. For the record, it wasn't and isn't her worst selling album, so I'm not sure where you got that from.

Album sells mean nothing what so ever in terms of whether an album is good or not. You honestly believe that an album not selling as good as others means that most people think it's terrible? So by your logic, every single album that doesn't make the charts is terrible?

Human Nature, whether it sold well or not, was an iconic song that went on to actually inspire. And Bedtime Story, for me, is still one of the best songs of her career and the beginning of a sound for Madonna that we eventually went on to witness with Ray Of Light.

Believe me, Bedtime Stories isn't even close to a terrible album. It may be one that you're not too fond of, but that does not make it terrible.”

Terrible : Dreadful?

Last comment on this, it's GGW thread not Bedtime Stories. I don't like Bedtime you do, that's great if everyone liked the same things this world would be c***.

Bedtime at the time was her lowest selling album, i am not counting You Can Dance/I'm Breathless one was a remix album and the other a project to go with Dick Tracy.

I did not say most people thought Bedtime was terrible, i said i think Bedtime is terrible, i said i was not the only one to think Bedtime was not a good album.

You are right great album sales do not always equal great album, just as no sales do not equal a bad album. One of my favourite albums of the decade is Modern Industry by Matinee Club an album nobody bought, i love it.
For an act of Madonna's stature at the time Bedtime sold poorly. Don't get me wrong there were other factors at play, radio were not playing her as much, the sex book did damage her career even after 2 years and the album was generally bad (in my opinion).

I did miss Bedtime Story out on an other reply i do really like that song and it had a killer video but it was out of place on the album. Madonna had seen the success of Bjork and was on the Bjork bandwagon but as Hooper/Bjork produced the song i guess they think it's ok.

Human Nature again we should just agree to disagree. The message and lyrics of the song are great the finished product was not.

I am sorry Jack. I should really have scrolled down, that was lazy of me.

I agree with what you are saying here. I just hope the song works better on the album.

i cannot wait to see the visuals...it made me like Luvin more. So hopefully those in confused state will love it by the time the video is out...repeat listens or as some have said...maybe it will make more sense on MDNA in full

its rather catchy. yes, i am a big fan and to a certain extent i would like it. however, i heard the song perhaps twice before i went out earlier tonight. despite talking at length to a friend about her flopping in the uk with her latest single. i found myself singing the song while i was driving.

The power of a good hook....i played it once and as the internet cut out for a bit it just remained.

You know you have a hit when it sticks in your mind and revisit...i think i have repeated it 9 times now

Ah thats brill yeah i do get a bit flustered when i really enjoy a song and i look at other fanbase comments and its like...cursing lol

But it really has cranked it up one heck of a lot! I do hope this is a massive hit too personally because i know it has the potential....but i did think and feel the same thing for Britney and Till The World Ends...i dont want Wild to suffer anything remotely similar as it is just such a stomper that should connect to a more casual listener crowd definitely we will soon see

But itn is the album that I cannot wait for

and i love it in Wild where she says "oops, forgive me" and then BAM!!

that was disappointing and should have been a huge hit for brit. what confused me slightly were the lyrics on this new song. maybe i wasn't listening correctly, but she sang/quoted lyrics on that radio interview after the super bowl and they are not even on the song. i did like that forgive me bit.

It did confuse me which taught me to predict nothing.

and nah that was a wind up...we made up lyrics "i can have it all, i can love him and her and i can have it all" or however it went...it was just something she joked about when promoting W.E when she was asked before if she would give up her throne to anyone in particular

To which she said that she would never give up her status for anything as she can have it all ...i love Madonna

Well each to their own

full prayer she says here -

"Oh my God,
I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee
And I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of heaven
And the pains of hell
But most of all because I love thee
And I want so badly...to be good!"

It gives me shudders when i hear her say it out loud to introduce MDNA love it.

I like it. It's very catchy, fun and playful but I'm not entirely sold. There's a strong beat to it and no doubt played out loud in a club it's going to draw the masses on the dancefloor but there's something missing to make it a killer song. I don't know if it's the length of the song, the lack of originality in the lyrics or just a general feeling you get from the tune itself but when I think the snippet was very promising, the entire song falls quite short to me...In a way, this era so far reminds me Bedtime Stories. The songs are very solid but the whole album was missing a bit of spark to make you go wow! And that's what this era seems to be...Funny enough she's come back with a strong image so far to launch the album!?

For goodness' sake when is going to be on iTunes.

Her new material is not doing anything for me. Honestly I think she needs to realise that she is now in the same bracket as the Rolling Stones / Metallica - a music legend who can sell out arenas anytime she wants but the public don't want new material. She is still trying to be the rebel, the outrageous sex kitten but she can't play that role any longer.

Speak for yourself buddy!

Personally, I really like the new song - will be great when on CD, with proper bass and a clearer sound....

Hopefully the album will be similar to Confessions which is my favourite album of hers... it seems to have a similar vibe from what I have heard....

I keep expecting her to break out into 'they just wanna, they just wanna have fun'

Indeed. She's flogged that horse to death. And I do agree she's reached Rolling Stones/McCartney/Paul Simon status now - which she no doubt hates - of The Rock and Roll Establishment where it's the back catalogue that public (non fans) are interested in and not new music. If I were her I'd save up all this new stuff and give it to a new artist.

Or give it to Lourdes.

And I agree that the reference to 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' on Girls Gone Wild is as unfortunate as her reference to 'Better The Devil You Know' from Like It Or Not.

I see what you and smc81 are saying but I'll disagree as well. I've the feeling we'd have a far more superior material if her entire focus was on her music but for some reason it seems anything she has to say or explore creatively has come through W.E. and Filth & Wisdom. Haven't seen any of them yet but the interviews she made at the time are quite interesting in that sense and sort of give a hint of where her mind is at creativewise. I'm not saying she's being lazy with her music - still think HC was a solid effort and even if I'm not entirely sold as a fan on GMAYL/GGW, they're good tunes - but if she feels filmmaking is now the medium to use for her to express herself as an artist and pushing the envelope, we're unlikely to have another groundbreaking album from her anytime soon.
