plus she (accidentally ) created a new sub-genre...goth. it was siouxsie that created the image and sound... how many other women in pop/rock can claim that?... oh yeah... NO ONE.”

We'll agree to disagree then. After all who was featured in these programmes was probably the sole choice of the overall person in charge, the Executive Producer. How DO you decide? If you were him you'd have Siouxsie in there whereas if it was me I wouldn't, but Cilla instead. Neither of us would be wrong. How do you decide who are Queens of Pop? No-one can give a definitive answer as there isn't one! It's all about opinions. I think it should go on number of hit singles actually but other posters above disagree.

What about Sade? Yes, technically a group but she's the main one, like Siouxsie was. As someone said, maybe Kim Wilde instead of Leona too.

Actually he was probably (and still is) one of the strongest singers in Steps. I saw him in the West End in Joseph and he was fantastic. He has a good voice, but then again, I don't think that Boy George has a good voice. Opinions differ!

Someone was right in saying that everyone has their own 'Queen's of British Pop' but I agree it's not down to how many hit singles you've had, more your lasting legacy. For example I'm only a teenager but I'm a massive Siouxsie & The Banshees fan and know many others like me who love her. Which I think says it all.

thought you watched the programme?..

it isnt subjective as to who did what, its fact based. the point is that cilla might have been a more successful chart act, but she wasnt a leader, an innovator, her influence was minimal. prog 1 highlighted this, with every artist there for this reason, they cut new ground and paved the way for others.

going on #1s is daft...in that case westlife are a more creative act then say the smiths! . chart success doesnt equate to quality, nor is a mark of an artists true input into the evolution of music.
