[I'm aware there's a thread on the song but this thread is strictly for discussing the moral conflict of having Chris Brown on the remix]

As a really big Rihanna fan [I went to her tour, I bought her last 3 albums physically] I am so so so bitterly disappointed in her. Her featuring on his remix is just so degrading to women who are victims of abuse everywhere and to herself. I understand that it's not her job to parent the girls of America but she has to take even the slightest bit of a responsibility for her actions and she hasn't. This genuinely disgusts me on so many levels.

Don't even get me started on the disturbing and inappropriate lyrical content on Chris' verse on Birthday Cake. I'm officially no longer a fan. Anyone else share my sentiments?

She's allowed to make her own mind up, if she wants to get back then fair enough. Plenty of women do, and she shouldnt have to stay away from the man she loves (no matter what he did to her) just because shes in the public eye. It's the fact she used the whole thing as publicity that's pissed me off. Now, thaaaaat is a slap in the face to women who have experienced what she has.
So yes I agree with you. For me it's not about her being friends with Chris but the fact it's the most publicty whoreish thing I have ever seen, and it's disgraceful that Rihanna is using abuse to get some column inches and sales. No disgusting in fact.

Just because she was battered by him after an argument doesn't make her the bastion of abused women. IMO, their past transgressions shouldnt have any bearing on the music. Its not demoralising to women at all. Its nothing more than a Sex Book/Justify my love situation.

I think it's incredibly foolish of her. Tabloid headings will be gained, but so, SO much more will be lost.

“Brown was driving a vehicle with Robyn F. as the front passenger on an unknown street in Los Angeles. Robyn F. picked up Brown’s cellular phone and observed a three-page text message from a woman who Brown had a previous sexual relationship with.

“A verbal argument ensued and Brown pulled the vehicle over on an unknown street, reached over Robyn F. with his right hand, opened the car door and attempted to force her out. Brown was unable to force Robyn F. out of the vehicle because she was wearing a seat belt. When he could not force her to exit, he took his right hand and shoved her head against he passenger window of the vehicle, causing an approximate one-inch raised circular contusion.

“Robyn F. turned to face Brown and he punched her in the left eye with his right hand. He then drove away in the vehicle and continued to punch her in the face with his right hand while steering the vehicle with his left hand. The assault caused Robyn F.’s mouth to fill with blood and blood to splatter all over her clothing and the interior of the vehicle.

“Brown looked at Robyn F. and stated, ‘I’m going to beat the sh– out of you when we get home! You wait and see!’

” The detective said “Robyn F.” then used her cell phone to call her personal assistant Jennifer Rosales, who did not answer.

“Robyn F. pretended to talk to her and stated, ‘I’m on my way home. Make sure the police are there when I get there.’ After Robyn F. faked the call, Brown looked at her and stated, ‘You just did the stupidest thing ever! Now I’m really going to kill you!’

“Brown resumed punching Robyn F. and she interlocked her fingers behind her head and brought her elbows forward to protect her face. She then bent over at the waist, placing her elbows and face near her lap in [an] attempt to protect her face and head from the barrage of punches being levied upon her by Brown.

Brown continued to punch Robyn F. on her left arm and hand, causing her to suffer a contusion on her left triceps (sic) that was approximately two inches in diameter and numerous contusions on her left hand.

“Robyn F. then attempted to send a text message to her other personal assistant, Melissa Ford. Brown snatched the cellular telephone out of her hand and threw it out of the window onto an unknown street.

“Brown continued driving and Robyn F. observed his cellular telephone sitting in his lap. She picked up the cellular telephone with her left hand and before she could make a call he placed her in a head lock with his right hand and continued to drive the vehicle with his left hand.

Brown pulled Robyn F. close to him and bit her on her left ear. She was able to feel the vehicle swerving from right to left as Brown sped away. He stopped the vehicle in front of 333 North June Street and Robyn F. turned off the car, removed the key from the ignition and sat on it.

“Brown did not know what she did with the key and began punching her in the face and arms. He then placed her in a head lock positioning the front of her throat between his bicep and forearm. Brown began applying pressure to Robyn F.’s left and right carotid arteries, causing her to be unable to breathe and she began to lose consciousness.

“She reached up with her left hand and began attempting to gouge his eyes in an attempt to free herself. Brown bit her left ring and middle fingers and then released her. While Brown continued to punch her, she turned around and placed her back against the passenger door. She brought her knees to her chest, placed her feet against Brown’s body and began pushing him away. Brown continued to punch her on the legs and feet, causing several contusions.

“Robyn F. began screaming for help and Brown exited the vehicle and walked away. A resident in the neighborhood heard Robyn F.’s plea for help and called 911, causing a police response. An investigation was conducted and Robyn F. was issued a Domestic Violence Emergency Protective Order.”

While I respect people make there own choices to forgive and forget I can't help but think Rihanna is playing a game here. What happened to her shouldn't happen to anyone and I can't help but feel Chris Brown got off very lightly. Should've been locked up if you ask me.

I really don't like the new version, not because they collaborated but I just don't like it.
Prefer the shorter version :/

But they collaborated on one of Chris songs as well as a remix 'Turn Up The Music' now they owned that together, made that really good.

I agree with you.
I keep seeing people saying "she's obviously forgiven him so what's the problem", well imo theres a difference between forgiving him and moving on and deliberately working with the person who beat you to a pulp, in order to get loads of publicity.

I actually think there is going to be a massive backlash against her now, from fans and press and to be honest i think she will deserve it.

I know my previous post may state different but most of us are adults. As are Rihanna & Chris they know what they are doing and am sure are both more than capable of deal with any backlash that may arise.

I'm not sure what she was thinking when she though doing this would be a good idea.

Controversy aside, the remix is rubbish! I guess it was just for the headlines.
(And musically I'm a fan of both).

I think it's a good move, some or many will disagree, I would say I'm more of a fan of Chris Brown's music, so I don't hate him despite what he did to Rihanna, She has forgiven him and I think he deserves a chance to move on, rather then to keep being punished for the wrong he did in his life three years ago.

I like some Rihanna songs too and I think both songs sound good. Rihanna brings off Turnt up the music, at the end if the day it's music, Chris and Rihanna are obviously friends now, I don't see the problem as long as Chris doesn't beat up a women again and learns from what he did, why shouldn't he be forgiven?

Rihanna has shown that she doesn't hold a grudge or has the amount of hate for him as the media or some of her fans do, perhaps she wanted to team up with him as her way of saying she forgives him and it's a new chapter.

As long as they don't start dating again, there should not be an outrage, it's just music.

Yeah the shorter version packed more punch and was just on the right side if sleaze. The remix oversteps the mark once that woman beater comes in.

It's up to her to forgive his actions in private but with her young fans this song is publicly endorsing him and almost making what he did acceptable it's saying''he hit me but it's fine now we can make money from it'' it's disgusting demoralizing and a huge step to far i feel for her i do she should have realised no one would be happy with this least of all the fans who supported her through her abuse.
