Mobile for worldwide use.

My brother is going to see with a shipping boat. We think he will be going from Japan to America but really it could be anywhere.

What type of mobile does he need in order to make calls when it hits land. Right now he's got a 5 year old Samsung and I think its only duel or tri band.

Japan doesn't have a GSM network so a Nokia with quadband GSM and pentaband 3G radios would be my choice, so at least an unlocked Nokia 500 on the cheaper end of things.

Though would probably be easier and cheaper for him to check in using a payphone at the dock.
