Maybe Emeli was in the bog doing a poo, hence the rushed talk to Jessie J (who didn't seem that happy about it)

As a guess....perhaps because Jessie J is one of those acts that went to The Brits school who The Brits Awards fawn all over for being 'one of their own', and Emeli Sandé isn't?

Ameli Sande writes her own music and has already written songs for other singers including Tinie Tempah and Leona Lewis just a few to name. Blur were big in the 1990s - this is the noughties.
She is new talent and I think she has an amazing voice.

I think she will be very big this year - watch this space.

I agree as previous winners were allowed

Ooo Leona Lewis and Tinie Tempah award worthy.

Blur have been big for over 20 years. Hence getting Lifetime Achievement. They might not have released anything since 2003, but they've still manged sell out tours and are, apparently working on a new album.

I'm guessing that's because The Voice starts soon. It's an opportunity to promote it. I agree that they should have spoken to Emeli Sande though, it was her moment after all.

Isn't the Brits always a shambles anyway? It's not about the music it's more about publicity and becoming an "icon" to the younger audience by creating some above average songs written for you.

I don't think that ITV would like to promote the Voice which will be aired on BBC But yeah it makes no sense to talk with Jessy when Emili is in the same room

I know this makes no sense given my response earlier, but this thought had crossed my mind. As someone else has said a few posts above, it's possibly due to the fact that Jessie J went to the Brit School and Emeli didn't.

Either way, it's wrong. It was supposed to be Emeli's moment.

It could've been where she was seated. They could've put her at a far table. Anyway I think she was muscled out for Blur. Their performance was very long, and she deserved to get her award and sing Next to me, like she was meant to. She would've been far better than Blur.

i think it was pathetic. Emeli is one of the best talents to come out in ages. she actually has talent and i think her album is amazing, its not all ballads-yes there are a few mid tempo's but she has a brilliant voice. JessieJ got her time last year and couldnt even get a number one album from it, Emeli's album went to number one and shes had a number one single and two number two singles in the last 9 months or so. I think shes a really exciting talent, and the fact that shes got here not through xfactor, not throught brits school, shes worked hard, put the graft in, writes all her own stuff and for other artists. shes not a conventional popstar and she doesnt need to go on about shaving her head to stay in the limelight cough jessie j. credit where its due JessieJ had a number one with Domino but thats only because alot of people-especially in my circle of friends and family etc thought it was katy perrys new song of her teenage dream rerelease. other than that she had price tag which again was a number one that i will give her her credit for because it was a gud track. her album was dire and so were herother singles from it. Emeli and Adele were mightily overlooked last night when they got two big awards yet they couldnt enjoy their achievements. though the let damon wotsit waffle on from his scabby bit of paper and a drunk george michael waffle on about how he lives up the road but came from australia?

edit; and yes fair enough emeli sandes number one was with prof green but its still her song too

It was just weird how they announced she had won the critics choice but then interviewed Jessie J. . . a quick glimpse of Emili and that was it.

Emili had been showing off the award on breakfast tv earlier in the day, not sure if they wanted her to keep it all under wraps and were annoyed at her or what but it was bizarre.

Jessie J is also very annoying. I imagine as they believe her to be a 'star' stateside and as she did not win anything or perform they thought they should give her some airtime.
Surely she deserved her moment on stage to collect her Brit award and say thank you to a few people. That was really out of order to just quickly flash one of her videos. Especially when a whole 11 minutes are being given to Blur later. Not happy!
Totally Agree!

No, her win had been announced a long time ago so wasn't news anyway.

Brits or no Brits, Emeli will have the last laugh anyway as she's a huge talent and will be around for ages...

Ok amaze me. What did she do that merited an award more than Blur then?

She only released her album the other week.
The Brits covers the period Nov 10 to Nov 11 so the album is ineligible. So a couple of singles are more deserving that a 20 odd year career.
Yeah I'm the one talking rubbish.

I'm not really understanding why on this forum if a poster isn't happy about one of several things from the awards last night...it's Blur's fault.

I'm sure that some on here would offer the lifetime achievement award to some act who sprang from nowhere and was suddenly big in the last year or two. Or sold X amount of records last year.

Blur are an important band. Even Damon Albarn alone has contributed a lot since 2003 with his Gorillaz output amongst other things.

I'm sure that there are other acts also worthy of winning the lifetime achievement award, yet some on here would actually have some Johnny Come Lately Fly by Night win the award.
It truly beggars belief.

But I do agree with the other poster who says that rather than interview Jessie J they should have been interviewing Emeli Sande who actually won that category.
Hardly Blur's ****ing fault though.

I think Blur might be getting grief because folk can't get their heads round a band that writes their own stuff and plays instruments live rather than getting by with a committee of writers, producers and session musicians.
Why are they playing guitars when there's computers for that now?

Her dad is Zambian, her mum I think is English and Emeli was brought up in Aberdeenshire and studied in Glasgow. Her accent is quite cultured as a result.

Its funny, there's been a massive fuss made of Adele in today's press but nothings been made of this as much, apart from on here...

OK, Jessie J didn't have a No.1 album but she and Emeli have had No.1 singles and Jessie has had success in America (where she's had 2 Top 40 hits) and Australia (where she had 3). And Jessie's about to be on the Voice.

Contrast with the winner of the Best British Breakthrough Act last night, who hasn't even achieved the same success as Jessie or Emeli (he hasn't had a UK No.1 single and bombed in Australia, where the A-Team was only a hit there-whereas,Jessie J managed 3 hits Down Under- Price Tag, Nobody's Perfect and Domino). And at least Jessie wasn't desperate that she had Rupert Grint in her video to sell a record (which still didn't go to No.1). OK, Jessie J isn't every one's cup of tea, but based on chart performance, her and Emeli broke through more last year than Ed and deserved to win.
