When there name was announced I was shocked! but then remembered it was the public who voted! tbh i'm not saying they shouldn't have one an award but I just think that there single was no way worthy of a Brit especially when comparing it to the other songs that were nominated! I mean no one will even remember that song this time next year!

Honestly, you don't actually know anything about One Direction and their fan-base, do you?

Online voting is why the Brits singles award doesnt carry much prestige these days.

to be fair here.
i am no wand erection fan, but its the song 'what makes you beautiful' which won the award.
it was number one here, and its also doing fantastically well around the globe, not to mention the fact they are soon to be the first UK boyband to crack america in god knows how long.
so if it wasnt adele, then it was going to be one direction.
its not THAT unbelievable really...

But there will always be that nagging feeling that you were beaten to an award by some crap boyband

When you are nominated for many awards there is always the risk some lame act will upstage you.

I like One Direction, but I don't like the song that won.

I don't understand why anybody is surprised, I have never seen the Brits in the least bit credible as an award. In the past it was all about just watching and enjoying the actual night - this is the first time I've watched in quite a few years and god, the actual show itself was terrible and all over the place.

Also, as others have pointed out, as much as I hate to admit it One Direction's track is pretty catchy and was everywhere in the latter half of 2011.

Once upon a time the 'single' was the most prestigious award and was usually kept till last.

However even in those days there where a few surprise winners (Rick Astley).

Anyway, I dont know why everyone is surprised, Cowell said they would be as big as the Beatles

You know of course there was more deserved winners than what makes you beautiful but credit where its due, they are relatively new and have built up a very loyal fan base who when needed stood by their idols, The fans done them proud so fair play. Personnely i wanted adele to win but i had a feeling one direction fans could have potentially caused an upset and they did.

Actually your right. Harry sounding half bladded put some fun into the proceedings. Nial still needs a slap though.

See even I know who they are.

The Wanted fans and JLS are not happy about this result if you look on Twitter.
Tom from TW girlfriend tweeted that it was a fix.

The night music died. Shame a bunch of tone-deaf Tweens hijack public awards. The award should be judged as the others.

So you're blaming one group for 'music dying'. Over-reaction or what?

Not the group. The Tweens that abuse the voting.

They weren't the only boyband up for the award.
