Adele wins 6 Grammys Last week
And doesn't get best single here in her own backyard?
Laughing stock”

OOOOH, someones fave doesnt win and that means everyone got it wrong It is down to a public vote and that is that. ID got more votes. Doesnt mean it IS the best single. There is no way of judging that. Dont take is so bloody seriously.

A sad day for British music!”

Sad day for British music? The biggest star in the world now is a 23 year old lady from London.

A 21 year old ex busker, who still sleeps on his manager's sofa won two Brits last night...

Why? love them or hate them its an absolute stonker of a pop song!!! one of the best in years.

You may not like pop music, but at least the winning song was undoubtedly (imo) the best in its genre this past year. Can't really think of a more valid reason for winning.

What happened to LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem.
It was the most played song on all the music channels last year and the most played song in the summer.
Don't even think they got a nomination for the Brits.

Used to look forward to the Brits every year.
Will give this one a miss this year.

Best Single should be judged by the Critics not the general public

My main issue with tonight's show is that the international winners are the only people from their category that actually turned up. So did they come because they knew they won, or did they win because they turned up?”

Very good point now i think about it

On this point I disagree it is the one award that should always be judged by the public imo.

Adele: I didn't win Best Single? Oh, okay, has anyone seen my 6 Grammy awards lying around somewhere?

They got rid of the International Single award.
I think that would have been a contender, or maybe Bruno Mars Grenade.

The Brits hardly have any categories really, compared to the Grammys.

But 1D are not the first talent show groups to win this - Girls Aloud, JLS and Liberty X have all won in the past.
So all this the 'music scene has died' 'it's a disgrace' is overdramatic.

Regardless of who I like and who I don't, it's seems ridiculous to me that the biggest selling single of the year didn't actually win single of the year.

That'll be due to the fact that being best selling doesn't make something the best. Just the same as because more people voted for something doesn't make it the best.

Besides they get sales related awards based on sales ie Gold Discs.

Yeah let's just get rid of the voting and automatically give it to the biggest seller
Quantity isn't quality. If the Oscars did that there would be uproar. And even though musical taste is subjective some of the biggest sellers in the past have been real stinkers.

It's because most of people who like Adele are mature enough and even if voted they didn't create multiple accounts while 1D obsessed teen stans voted like mad

When did I say it did? But IMO Someone Like You was far and away the best song that was nominated.

My gripe with it is that the writers stole from a great Grease track...Summer Nights...

Military Wives, Pixie Lott and Maroon 5 are all better tracks...and should have won, in my view.

One Direction, JLS and the rest of the X Factor crew are not original at all. It has all been done before. Same old, same old...in my opinion. All dull and boring.

A sad day indeed

It's always sad to see an award going to someone who has done virtually nothing to deserve it.

It's like giving an Award for Industry to a company and giving it to the office cleaner.

Nothing this group does is from their own heads; their songs are written for them, their 'voices' are autotuned and beefed up in the studio, instruments played by sesion players, marketing people telling them where to go, stylists telling them what to wear, huge amounts of money being spent on their promotion making sure they are on every channel and radio station despite the fact they cannot sing a note. They are just puppets for a larger money making machine that gladly take little girl's pocket money away from them (not that they know any better I suppose) .that's why it's sad that they have 'won' an award.

I love how people are getting their panties in a twist at this, as if the Brits are actually based on quality at all. I'd bet my own life on Florence or Coldplay or Ed Sheeran winning Best Album if they had sold 18 million copies, just like when Duffy beat Adele in all categories a few years ago. Why? Because Rockferry was the bigger record at the time. The Grammys aren't much better, I seem to recall Katy Perry getting nominated for her vocal performance 3 years in a row . I also wouldn't be surprised if those 6 Grammy's Adele won had gone to someone else if she wasn't breaking records here, there and everywhere.

As much as I love pop music the award ceremonies are a joke, and people really shouldn't take them so seriously. Plus, Louis from 1D is super fit .

I very much doubt anything was "stolen" or else there would have been a major law suit and we would all know about it. Sampling and using other songs to build something new and fresh is common practice in music. The Verve Bitter Sweet Symphony springs to mind (and in that case lawyers I believe did get involved)

What Makes You Beautiful is an incredibly good pop song and worthy winner.

You listen to the riff from Summer Nights and compare it to the OneD opening...it is a blatant rip off. Being influenced by things from the past is one, blatantly ripping off another track is totally unacceptable.

This.

You are right its never been any different and it is all about 'rewarding' those who have made £££££$$$$$-obviously there are exception's but anyone around in the late 80s will recall that Annie Lennox could 's**t out an album and she would be rewarded with best female-it became an 'in joke' in the end.

i like what makes you beautiful, its a great song and as predictable (or so it seemed) i think Adele really deserved the award for Someon Like You. yes its got a bit boring and has been over played for the last year BUT it was easily one of the biggest songs in the world last year but one direction win?!

I was convinced Adele had it in the bag, even with the award being voted for by the fans! The way I see it is Someone like You sold loads more than One Direction's song (sorry I haven't checked the figures, but I do know this to be true). To me, that is enough to know which song is better, a fan voted award.

I wouldn't say it was good! It is more an incredibly annoying and yet catchy tune that sticks in your head if you hear played too often.

We need to remember that quantity and sales don't = quality don't we. Sales just indicate what is popular at the time.

I completely agree - I think it was a great song and a worthy winner. Much as I like Adele, it was nice to see the awards a bit more spread out.

There does seem to be some unfair comments about the merits of One Direction which seems a shame. They have a great retro sound which reminds me of some of the groups that were around in the 60s.

By the way, I'm not a 'tween' I have been going to gigs for more years than I care to remember including watching Jimmi Hendrex, REM and David Bowie.
