Rihanna is more vocally talented than Cheryl without a doubt. Cheryl Cole sounds like she's talking when she sings.

Rihanna simply put without getting on her knees for Simon where would Cheryl be now.

But in all seriousness, there isn't really much between them... in terms of success Rihanna blows her away. But as you say "talent" the only thing you can judge them on is vocals... so on that, Rihanna wins that round.

Cheryl did at least compete in a show involving vocal talent (even if there was little). Rihanna has never sounded anything but awful whenever I've heard her.

I think I prefer Cheryl, if only because she doesn't quite reach the levels of hard-faced slapper that Rihanna sometimes reaches.

Neither have strong voices, but I do think both have talent. Rihanna has such a flair for performance, a big stage personality and the album she had the biggest hand in creating - Rated R, was easily her best. When she has the right song too her voice works - the emotionless, icy thing she has going on sounds fantastic.

Cheryl as a part of Girls Aloud worked really well - she was great at harmonizing, and made the most of her solo slots. While her voice isn't powerful, she has such a nice tone to it and a great talent as an on-screen presence, clearly, as she's largely built her solo career off her personality.

So I'd probably say neither of them will ever trouble the likes of Adele voicewise, they both have something special.

Rihanna is more vocally talented. I'd say other than her dancing there isn't much there for Cheryl besides her looks...Rihanna is a pretty good singer and can perform and put on a show plus she can sing live so she wins in my book.

Rihanna is brilliant and is talented! she's a talented performer and has made an massive contribution to music over the last few years all over the world! and just because she might hit a few bum notes sometimes doesn't mean she's untalented!! and i think comparing her to Cheryl Cole is an insult to rihanna who is an international, multi-platinum artist!

Cheryl has a nice tone, shame about her poor range. Also, as an artist I think her success boils down to her being an extremely popular 'personality'. As a solo performer though she doesn't have a lot of stage presence and seems to lack in confidence - something Rihanna has in buckets.

I suppose CC gets autotuned more than Rihanna.So on that basis Rihanna must scrape it

Okay Rihanna may not be the greatest singer in the world but she definitely has a much better voice than Chery Cole.

I don't think there was anything about my post that needed correcting really - I never mentioned anything that contradicted her excessive use of auto-tune. I like her tone of voice when she does perform live, but as I said that's about it, her vocal range is awful (which is where the auto-tune comes in).

Unfair. Both artists may not have particuarly strong vocals but to say that their careers depend solely on their looks is surely quite unture. Both artists have been involved in critically acclaimed music (Tangled Up, Rated R, We Found Love, Biology to name but a few). Cheryl is an excellent dancer and performer and Rihanna is also a good performer and business woman. The 'look' is important in their artistry but is certainly not the thing that makes their career what it is.

Business women. Artists. Bah humbug. I blame Madonna for this talk. Some of their songs may well be good pop hits, but to what extent they had any involvement I wonder. They definitely have a presence about them and clearly attract attention, but then so do professional wrestlers. The geniuses - if you can use that word for them - are surely the marketing teams behind them. What Cheryl and Rihanna seem to be good at they unfortunately turn out to be merely mediocre at, when compared to others.

The point about the looks is that the attention Cheryl got above all the other members of Girls Aloud was clearly down to her being the best looking (and the only one who thumps people in toilets).Rihanna, I know less about, but it clearly wasn't her voice that impressed whoever signed her.
