Jessie James, I guess.

EDIT: Although her surname is Cornish...

She truly is dreadful. If they were handing out awards for who is the most awfully contrived tosh-star to have emerged in recent years then she would have picked up the lot.

I would have liked her to have won Breakthrough because a) Ed has already won one and b) I prefer Jessie J. However I guess it did go to the right person.

Ed's album has been out 7 months less than Jessie's and still sold more (Ed - 923,074 in 5 months & Jess - 884,900 in 12). Ed clearly was the bigger breakthrough and in a faster time aswell.

Why? She's one of the most contrived, fake, try-hard popstars I can ever remember. One of the only saving graces for the Brits last night was the fact she didn't win anything.
I am so glad someone else feels the same. I have tried really hard to like her but every interview is all about me me me and she appears to be from the why say one word when you can say ten school of thought. It may not have been her fault last night but I thought it was bad the way Emile Sande's interview was highjacked by Jessie

Me too. I tried to like her but she has something that makes her very unlikeable for me

Yet Jessie's managed 2 UK No.1's (even Emeli Sande managed one)- ES couldn't manage that with even a Harry Potter star in one of the videos. And she's had 3 Top 40 hits in Australia (Price Tag, Nobody's Perfect and Domino), whilst Ed flopped there, with only the A-Team being a hit in Australia.

Not to mention success in America, where normally UK artists struggle.

And...

Edd's total UK album sales are obviously going to smash Jessie's into the ground. He's already ahead with 7 months less sales. Regardless of the fact he hasn't had a number 1 single with this album (which your putting too much entheis on - or would you say Cher Lloyd is more successful than Florrence And The Machine?); he's had three Top 5 hits without a rerelease (one more than Jessie) with 2 being massive hits selling over 500,000 copies. Which I think is amazing for someone who is clearly shiffting so many albums. He's also gone to Number 1 with his album what three times now? While Jessie has sadly not got there once.

International success means nothing for The Brits, and while I wish I could say otherwise Ed was the biggest breakthrough in the UK. I wish Jessie had won but I can't aguee that Ed shouldn't have.

Bought by tweeny's - top tweeny star at the moment Justin Bieber - say no more
Perhaps the Brits are trying to turn themselves into a Smash Hits competitor since they put so much attention on Jessie J OR her label / Mastercard http://www.somethingforthefans.co.uk...forfans.uk.MPU bought a certain amount of airtime for her. This is commercial TV remember, although ITV, Brits production company are supposed to follow certain rules. We all know they seem to be flouted these days though.
It seems that Adele's label / PR forgot to buy airtime for her though

I wonder how much Blur's airtime cost

I can't believe she didn't win a single award!! she deserved best british breakthough imo!! She had the biggest selling debut album of last yr and 2 no.1 singles. Now if that's not breakthrough then i don't know what is!
but I thought it was about the music and not how many records sold? One Direction were voted as best British song because loads of people voted for it but would you say its the best british song of 2011?

One of the most satisfying things on the night was Jessie J going away empty handed.

I cannot take to her, she has too high an opinion of herself.
I think going on The Voice has puffed her ego up even more.

I agree that she's nicked Katie Perry's sound for Domino, sounds exactly like her.

Hopefully she'll get a bit if humility now she hasn't landed a Brit this year. I suspect she won't do much in future now.

She's oversings overdoes everything. Sometimes less is more. She leaves me cold although I admit she's good. Interestingly she only looks good with a fringe, her face looks too hard otherwise.

And I'm glad too that many people here seem to be on the ball when it comes to her, rather than believing the label-engineered hyperbole and commercial success

I bought her album when it came out and it honestly is awful, Price Tag is acceptable but the way she sings makes my ears hurt, shes up here and down there and away somewhere else.

I threw the album out a few weeks ago

I like Do It Like A Dude and Domino is ok in a generic kind of way but everything else she's done is awful. She does have a good voice but she always sings as if she's forgotten the melody to her songs and is desperately trying to find it again by hitting every note she can think of.

And the b-bling b-bling lyric in Price Tag never fails to make me cringe. So no, I'm not disappointed she didn't win a Brit. I did think she was going to win Breakthrough though but I don't mind being wrong.

Jessie J irritates the hell out of me, especially the c-c-c-constant stutter she does.

I like some of her songs, but while I love who's laughing now, I hate the start, and the way she seems to think that the stuttering is a good sound...

That saying, she's the sort of person I'd love to have for a mate, and some of her stuff is good, although I hate Domino - I honestly thought it was Katy Perry. I also think she could have a more flattering hairstyle, although that may just be me?

I feel both Jessie and Florence were majorly snubbed this year.
They weren't snubbed. They were nominated, and didn't they perform as well? When you talk about snubbing, what about Will Young? No nominations despite having a critically acclaimed album, ten years in the business, great live singer, and still no performance after all this time. Now THAT is snubbing!

TOTALLY agree!

and the only reason she has one of the biggest songs in the world right now is because it sounds EXACTLY like Katy Perry! the music, the way she sings, the lyrics, it couldve easily been lifted from Katy Perrys album.
Domino is pure tripe, just horrific. worst single of the year imo

Pity as i actually quite like all the other singles she's released (Price Tag, Nobody's Perfect, Who's Laughing Now, Who you are) apart from do it like a dude...
