Id like to start by saying i really like Adele

Shes got a great voice, writes nice songs and above all else is a beautiful warm genuine person.

BUT

I have to say im not 'getting' the hype

Her songs are good but they are by no means the best songs iv ever heard

Her voice is good but shes by no means the best vocalist ive ever heard

She is a good enough artist but in my opinion she is NOWERE NEAR the level to warant such hype!

Its BEYOND hype now its almost a phenomenon how popular her album is

My question to the forum is WHAT IS ADELES APPEAL

WHY Is she considered the best artist in the world right now

I can appreciate she has a good voice, but like you i can't see the reason for the hype.

Simply put she is relatable as she said someone has felt or is feeling or simply looking forward to what she writes about

I don't get the hype. An absence of greatness promotes mediocrity *hides in a corner*

That's the reason. Plus a lot of airplay and live performances, and good promotion.

In a sea of mediocrity, average is king.

Good topic and a fair topic. I do like Adele myself and to be honest i didnt take much notice of her at all until she performed someone like you at the Brits last year. Rolling in the deep i find ok but i wouldnt buy the track where as i would buy someone like you and set the fire to the rain. I havnt bought 21 yet its an album im considering buying as from what i have heard i like half the song and am not keen on the other half.

I think someone like you struck a chord with people which really helped catapult the album sales, adele herself has the girl next door thing about her, is very down to earth and has a genuine talent which does sales no harm at all, i think this mixed with she is different to the others females around, ie not dancing round the stage, no sexual style video;s, no over the top dressing or short skirts etc and again this makes her stand out. For me thats what i think overall has helped the 21 album absolutly explode.

A lot of people are buying her album because they feel they have to.

She is 2012's Duffy.
2012's Dido.

That dire song "Someone like you" will in about 20 years time be widely regarded as one of the most hated songs ever written.

I don't see it as HYPE at all!!!!

It's a very nice and pleasant change from meat wearing, sex obsessed, over the top and generally talentless 'artists'.

Her success has come from that I think.

Look at the list of artists that try OTT manoeuvres to get sales:

Lady Gaga - you were not always crazy.....I remember the Just Dance days.....

Katy Perry - little Christian raised girl......now she ain't haha

Rihanna - sex obsessed........CakeCakeCake

Justin Bieber - talentless peice of shit.

1D - same as above.

JLS - same as above.

It is so nice to support an artist like Adele and realise that she ain't gonna turn up at an awards show ina ****ing egg.

'21' was a decent enough album, but I can't believe it's sold so much and has won so much awards. I think it's just down to Adele releasing at a PERFECT time (X-Factor started hammering her material in time for her return, then she launched against no compitition, had the Brits, was the sole 'credible' option against all the club music in the charts at the time and then soon enough everyone believes the hype and buys the album to see what the fuss is about). She's a good singer, but not amazing either. She's very shouty and breathless sometimes.

Plus she'll never be as popular as her peers because unlike the others (Rihanna, Gaga, Katy, whatever) they're all versatile and have cultural impact plus huge videos and a huge online presence. Adele isn't a fan of touring and has only shot ONE video for the '21' era, plus she plans on taking a huge break between her next album. I can see her easily "underperforming" with the next era, being criticised by the press and media and called a flop and then there'll no doubt be a huge backlash.

Yes, let's list people we don't like to justify liking someone who can't sing live.

Someone Like you had a video.

And she don't need videos clearly.

A singer like her would have been considered boring a few years ago. but because so much music is synthetic and overproduced these days, she's something fresh and new lol.

I'm sure things will change again in a few years.

Yes I like her too but I'm at a loss why all the awards and sales. She just seems to have captured a huge cross section of the public by being an ordinary girl with an above average voice that writes good songs that don't requred a feat. rap artist or any special remix or million dollar video.

Record companies will now be hunting for the 'next' Adele or a male version (perhaps that big lad off last year's X Factor?)

Agreed.

Nice lady, nice songs. Overhyped IMO.

Her voice is not a patch on Amy Winehouse (but sadly we wont be getting any more albums from her)

With Adele i forgot to say in my last post is its very much a case where the music has spoken for itself, the videos that were done fo singles came way down the line of the singles initial success. Likewise she hasnt toured loads nor done loads of interviews so obviously people connected with the music.

With the album doing so so well i dony doubt she would have picked up a few sales from people just buying the album to see what it was all about.

21 has sold a fifth of Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms.

She does have a great voice though.

I think you got the wrong end of the stick. Her sales are average compared to the top 50 albums of all time was what I was saying.

Actually I hadn't realised BIA had sold 30 million which is the same as the Immaculate Collection by Madonna!

Thing is she isn't the best out there. And that's the sad thing (not against her). Artists like Janelle Monae got no airplay or hype and even Beyonce's 4 - a brilliant album, didn't get airplay easily from radios here (R1 were very shirty about her) and so the same music is heard again and again. The radios have a part to play in this, as they were hammering Adele lng after she'd topped the charts ie in May. It became too much, and effectively gave her a massive advantage over every other artist in the charts.
