Faulty new iPhone. Take it to apple or 3?

Hi I ordered a new contract online from 3 and recieved the 4s yesterday but the phone is faulty because when I first turned it on the screen was like a rainbow and it's better now other then there is shadowing around some text and icons so it looks like a ribbon problem.

Who would be better to deal with to replace the phone, apple or 3? (I've not heard great things from 3 customer service and I work 5 mins from an apple shop)

Personally I'd go back to 3 cos your contract is with them and they are the ones that have supplied it. By law it's their responsibility.

Return it as DOA (dead on arrival). No need to use the manufacturer warranty (i.e. Apple) unless you've had it a while. Much better you get a brand new working iPhone than get this one repaired.

Id go to an Apple Store if you have one local. No waiting around they will fix or replace on the spot. I would not go round the Three merry go round.

Apple will provide you with a working replacement at the genius bar appointment so may be the quicker solution.

That said the other poster is correct and your contract under the SOGA is with 3 and accepting a replacement from Apple would diminish any rights you have with 3 in the future. I'd personally drop @threeuksupport a tweet and see what they say if you use twitter. May be less painful than calling India.

Another plus for trying to get 3 to deal with it is that they will in all likeliness send a brand new replacement especially given the handset's age whereas apple will in all likeliness provide you with a refurb

Definitely go to an Apple store!

My iPhone 4 (on Three) had 1 dead pixel & the apple store couldn't be more apologetic!

They replaced it there & then. No sending special delivery, no waiting for it to be repaired, & no waiting for it to come back!

If it's dead/faulty on arrival - personally I'd expect who sold it to you to replace it. If it developed a fault later on, the Apple Store is the quickest.

Thanks for everyone's input. I called 3 support even though it took about half an hour to sort out the staff were quite easy to deal with and a new phone is being sent out to be exchanged tomorrow.

My 4S was faulty as well and i had to pop through to glasgow since i was outside the 2 weeks 3 would replace it apparently and apple support over the phone is absolutely useless.

They replaced the phone without question and i was out in less than 10mins.

Now just trying to figure out whether this phone is unlocked or not now...

In the case of an iPhone I would always always go to Apple in the first year they are fantastic.
