People who can't handle ANY criticism of their idols

This bugs me so much!
On twitter I like to socialise with other fans of different artists but then they'll insist so and so is better than somebody else.

My twitter is full of fanbase wars, I doubt the artist is even aware to be honest.

I think all fanbases just need to accept that every artist has flaws as well as us.

I do give them the benefit of the doubt though. But purely cos I was the same as a teenager. If anyone dare say a bad word against Take That, I would go off on one big time. Now I use facts to back it up an argument or just laugh at whatever ridiculous claim someone is now making. Once they hit their 20's, they will realise what idiots they were and the fact that not everyone has the same taste and it does not lead to out of control arguments and rudeness.

Well I'm a fan I know they are not perfect! But who is?

We all have different tastes, I understand your frustration though.

But it is rare to see a fan of a boyband actually realise they are not perfect! So I applaud for knowing they are not!

The thing is I want my artist to have flaws, I want them to appear like a human being because I feel like their music is must more genuine. If someone is sold as an ideal then they bore me to tears.

It's almost as if they create cults by naming themselves and the artist is a God like figure. It's really weird and surely not healthy.

It's almost as though the youngsters have replaced following a religion with following a celebrity or artist and having them as their God. I believe the 'Monsters' are the most deranged and fanatical on the whole

Exactly, I think it gives the artist more meaning but when the One direction fans or Justin Bieber fans, just as an example as most fanbases are as bad as each other tweet and get it trending worldwide

It just doesn't seem relevant and for the people who are not fans of the artist to constantly see it trending I don't think it's fair.

I have nothing against any artist in this respect however because it's not like they have asked for whatever is trending to trend.

I've had the misfortune, in the past, to voice my opinion of Cher Lloyd and was subjected to a barrage of poisonous responses from crazed fans. What I hate in particular are the "you're just jealous" responses. It's one of the worst (if not *the* worst) comebacks to use and just proves that whoever uses it has no constructive argument imo.

It's what I mean, theres a fine line between being a fan and being overly obsessive it's worrying.

I don't get how fans can allow themselves to be names. Don't they find it really patronising? I know I would

I hate it when people personally attack others, sure have a difference of opinion but keep it about the music please. The thing is, in my experience anyway, those who have been defending their favourite artist have been far, far worse then those criticising. If I was an artists with these types of fans I would be so embarrassed.

I'm also so sick and tired of people saying, 'well such and such an artists fans are just as bad.' What are you five?? Just because another fanbase is doing it does not make it right.

Heartbeats are Jessie J fans. I have no clue who soldiers are though, maybe it's Rihanna seeing as her collective is Navy...

EDIT: Just googled, Soldiers are Cheryl Cole fans...

Who are the "Heartbeats" a fan of? I've not heard that nickname before.

Edit - I see the poster above me already explained; thanks!

I feel old not knowing all the lingo any more.

I have found that the worst offenders for being unable to handle criticism of their idol are the Kylie fans. They seem to regard her as some untouchable 'sacred bird' you just CAN'T dislike.

I'm critical of my own idols im only critical of others when there is a total lack of objectivity and blind sightedness on their part those being:

Gaga fans
Beiber

I agree 100%. I can take well reasoned criticism of my favourite artists such as when people say they don't like a certain song or album. But there's the other side of it, when criticism of an artist becomes mean spirited, nasty and about their personal life or choices or their physical appearance, saying they're too old, too fat, too thin etc. , not their music. I will object when I read those type of things and I don't think it makes me an obsessed fan, but just a compassionate human being.
There are some people who may call what they say about a given artist objective and fair criticism but it can cross the line into mean spiritedness. I see the number of people who post mean spirited things about a given artist and the number of obsessed fans who can't take any criticism about the same in number. They both are actually a small minority in the general public, but they tend to post more so they seem to be in the majority. But I think most people can be objective about an artist, and see their faults without hating them.

Dear god. When will the fanbase-naming stop?

Little Monsters sounds downright amazing compared to Heartbeats, Beliebers, Soldiers, Navy, Katy Kats, Crazy Cats, Lovatics, etc. etc.

I mean, sheesh. What have you started, Gaga?

Other artists have given their fans names before Gaga. Tori Amos calls hers "Ears with Little Feat" and Mariah Carey calls hers lambs. Another thing Gaga copied!

Rihanna Navy is a cool name....comes from her song G4L...

'Guns, girls, come on we ain't done yet, got a lot to do we ain't take over the world yet, BOOM we're an army, better yet a navy, better yet crazy, guns in the air, guns in the air'.....

I love that song

Apologies, by "started" I meant "ignited a trend".

What a hack. Didn't even originate the concept of naming her fanbase. She should just give up, tbh. Who does she think she is?
