i wouldn't by any means say im a fan that wont accept any criticism of lady gaga but one thing i will say is i don't like it when people say she is talentless.

she can sing... very well. i'll accept the fact that she is no whitney or mariah but she can sure as hell hold a tune and its extremely noticeable in her vocal improvement from the fame and fame monster compared to born this way, her vocals in born this way are actually really good. if you want listen to a few songs from her monster ball tour hbo special.

you and i

Speechless

Teeth
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pH7w1...eature=related

if you get past the talking in speechless and teeth in particular they are actually amazing performances

she can also dance, ok she's not as good as beyonce but she is still good and copes with singing and performing live at all times.

she's also a very talented writer she can write catchy pop songs such as just dance, poker face, telephone, bad romance, love game etc. but she can also write really deep and meaningful songs such as dance in the dark, speechless, edge of glory, you and i...

By far the 1D fans are the worst, ive stopped going on twitter because of them. The beiber fans were bad but i think alot of people have gone off him now. Gaga fans are bad aswell, they really think the sun shines out if her arse and its impossible to tell them otherwise. I absolutely love Rihanna but there is no way i would ever call myself part of her "navy" and i most certainly am not part of the navy "family".
I think having names and giving labels encourages rivalry which causes nastiness and arguments.
I would say Taylor Swift fans are ridiculous but i dont actually know any and ive only seen 2 or 3 weirdos on here! you know who you are

one direction fans > adele fans hence why we won the british best single and adele was a sore loser. Adeles fans cant handle any criticism or the truth, that 1d are better and thats partly why they won the best single award, they just have to face facts sometimes.

umm who else, oh yh alexandra burkes fans, jeez malone they cant take it at all

Tori Amos calls hers "Ears with Little Feat"
I love Tori Amos but that's just stupid, and vomit inducing.

I sincerely hope that this post was intentionally playing up to all the stereotypes said in this thread.

it does seem to me that fans of x factor artists are particularly defensive and obsessive. your post strengthens my continued suspicion.

What's this about, anyway? I thought we were all supposed to grow out of this kind of behaviour once we left our teens and outgrew our childish crushes, but it's a big problem even with adult fans. It makes it really hard to even attempt to discuss an artist/celebrity on a rational level.

Anyone else noticed it getting worse and feeling hacked off with it?
I've noticed that it appears to affect adults a hell of a lot more than I remember when I was a teenager or in my twenties.

Now you can get adults acting like 13 year old children in the way they idolise pop stars.

It's almost as if they create cults by naming themselves and the artist is a God like figure. It's really weird and surely not healthy.

It's almost as though the youngsters have replaced following a religion with following a celebrity or artist and having them as their God. I believe the 'Monsters' are the most deranged and fanatical on the whole
It sometimes does feel a bit like that. Especially when you actually read the content of what they've written. It sometimes really does read like the fan letter being read out in that Stan song by Eminem.

I remember as a kid reading the comic 2000AD, and it might have been a Judge Dredd story, but in the story there was something called 'The Burger Wars' where two characters called Ronald McDonald who dressed as the McDonalds clown and Burger King were actually real-life people who had each built up an army of almost religious devotees who had real physical wars with each other.

It certainly seems to be very similar to cult-like behaviour compared to when I was a teenager. There were always big fanbases of acts like Barry Manilow, and Take That, and although there have always been people really into their favourite pop star they seemed harmless and quite nice really in comparision.

I think this modern era of fanbases seemed to become more prominent alongside the new era of TV talent shows and the internet in general with its social media sites. Somehow these things may work hand in hand and propagate, polarise, and exaggerate feelings and opinions.

It's like massive cults now who bang on about record sales, youtube hits, and poll rankings. Like it's a race for something, like to be the most popular of all time ever between fans of rival acts.

The comparison you make to the religious aspect is interesting though because it says something in one of the Bible stories saying to beware of the worship of false idols, and I remember a picture from a book when I was a kid at school of loads of people worshipping some golden statue of an animal of some sort.
That must be what the parable meant, that without religion people end up believing in something else instead to replace religion anyway.

That's exactly what I'm saying. These days, it tends to be the adult fans who are the most defensive and vicious towards other posters who dare to utter one word they don't like about their Chosen One. It's alarming, and absolutely pathetic.

You can understand it with the teenagers because most will hopefully grow out of it, but what fuels the adult fans (often who can be as old as middle aged as well!) to often outright bully people who simply disagree with their opinions? It's crazy.

Lol, I think all fan bases have their fans that are not so rational. It is only in the last few years that I have joined this forum, and I am amazed at the some of the responses. I really have no problem with people not liking certain types of music, singers etc, but when posters post deliberate personal hate (usually to big up their own favourites) is beyond me.
I have discovered some amazing music, through reading this forum, so I just try & take the good with the not so good.
I am somewhat bemused though, at my age lol, to be so taken with my favourite singer, but this doesn't stop me enjoying music from other artists.

Most Little Monsters are always so vile to everyone. You just need to look on Twitter to see that.

Directioners or whatever are also vile.

This thread has turned into a debate about boybands in general now, I actually think it's a interesting debate and I'm a fan of the boys!

The only thing that annoys me is people judging others for liking a certain act. I mean I have a wide range of music tastes, but like catchy pop music too - it's not a crime.

But it's all about opinion really.

Having said that, some of the criticism is extremely rude and very personal - like comments on appearance. Female artists seem to get this a lot.

And obviously if you are a fan of someone you would want to stick up for them.

never diss the beatles or anyone else from the 60's and 70's, the older generation on the forum don't like it and will tell you again and again and again and again that they were the start of music and the end of music

To me, it seems more like the OD fans "invaded" the thread and are trying to out number and drown out anyone with anything critical to say. I welcome debate but I'm not so sure that's what is going on in that thread.

I think it's more a case of you having too much time on your hands.
Nobody has a problem with constructive criticisms, but you seem to have a problem with their fans on DS (who are mostly adults who adore the boys) and supported them on X factor and are happy to see them doing so well.
Is it wrong to celebrate their achievements?

You started a negative thread because there were a few threads on the boys highlighting their achievements.
It does get a bit tedious and puts some of their fans who simply want to come on DS to have a grown up discussion.

You are free to start any thread if you want (same goes for Rose&Ribbon), but at least be a bit constructive.
If reaction is what you are after, it's probably better to take it up with their fans on twitter, although I have a feeling you did and couldn't handle them.

I have found that the worst offenders for being unable to handle criticism of their idol are the Kylie fans. They seem to regard her as some untouchable 'sacred bird' you just CAN'T dislike.
This. The thread on here where people are asked to put statements of other famous people extolling the 'talent' of someone who has been very successful on luck, good managment and a particularly good pop song that someone else wrote as if she is up there among the true greats and and legends leaves me flabbergasted. The desperation to find quotes to create some sort of hagiography is beyond belief - although there is a rather underwhelming number of quotes which more suggests that some have an unhealthy desperation to promote this artist beyond all reasonable critique.

It's quite scary how obsessed people are with these music artists. If I like an artist, I like them.. but I can admit when they give a crap performance or if I don't like one of their songs.

Why not praise until the ends of the earth, someone important, like um.. your mother/child etc. Get in touch with reality.

Damn.
