Seems a bit like what the Nokia N900 was trying to achieve in 2009.....

The N900 was a great phone but the battery life was terrible. I had the N900 but had three exchanges of batteries and three exchanges of phone before I finally gave up and got an HTC HD2.

Might see if I can get hold of an N900 cheap to play with.

This reminds me of the Motorola atrix webtop thingy. That worked quite well but the android functions were in one separate window. If they can integrate the android notifications and apps into Ubuntu then it'll be a hit.

I guess this explains the much-maligned Unity interface.

I think you have got the wrong end of the stick. Ubuntu wont be the phone's OS (like Maemo on the N900), it will be a desktop OS available when you dock the phone with a display.
