I am fairly new to the world of Android and would like to know what other peoples favourite apps are as mine at the moment are only weather and news apps.

I got the Last FM app that saves the music I listen to on my HTC. Then when I turn on wi-fi it after a min or so adds the music I have listened to on my mobile to my Last FM site.

I also got the Pure Lounge app that I use very now and again.

I also go WordSearch Unlimited Free on my HTC that I play from time to time.

I do also use the weather app that came with my HTC and now and again the Facebook app if the Facebook app is not playing up.

Unless specified, all the following are free

just installed Hullomail which gives you visual voicemail, rather than messing with all that press 1 to listen, 2 to delete nonsense.

there's plenty of good tube and bus apps but the ones I have are London specific (as is Time Out and Evening Standard and Hailo).

Virgin Trains app

is handy if you use their services; will hold tickets on your phone rather than messing with paper ones.

Sky+ to set up recordings from your phone is good to have

Ebay and evernote and remember the milk and zipcar apps all handy if you use their services, and useless if you dont!!

Aside from games and niche apps, some of my faves;

Dolphin Browser - Loads better than built in Sammy browser
Swiftkey x Keyboard - As above
GO SMS Pro - As above, Samsung SMS client is basic.
Go Launcher Ex - As above, again. Didn't like touchwiz.
Gmail - Hmm theres a theme here, Samsung email client is slow and feature-lite.
Yahoo Sportacular - Alerts for my fave football/baseball teams.
Silent Night - Keeps my phone quiet overnight unless it's someone important.
BSPlayer Lite - Streams stuff off my NAS really well.

These are the apps that I always come back to when I have flashed a new ROM to one of my phones

Opera Mobile – the best browser on Android or any other mobile platform come to that. (free)
Beyond Pod – a great podcasting app if you are into that sort of thing. (free and paid)
Power Amp - Worth the money for this music player. (trial period then paid)
Go Launcher, Go SMS pro, Go Keyboard, Go weather – the whole go suite of apps are very good and are free. The launcher is smooth and highly customisable.
ICS keyboard – keyboards are very personal (I know some like swype and the Go keyboard has this option as well but I just can’t get on with it) and this is the most accurate one I have tried, lots of skins available for it as well. (free and paid)
Kids Place – if your children want to play on your phone this app sets up a locked page of apps that they can access without you worrying about them changing settings, making calls etc. (free)
Mail Droid – useful if you need to access other email accounts and not just your Gmail account. I have found it better than the stock email apps. (free)
Drop Box – Cloud storage that you can access on your PC and your phone (free for 2gb and paid if you need more)

A couple of apps for fun:
Osmos HD – very addictive game that looks great (paid)
CocktailFlow – great looking app for cocktails and mocktails – tell it what you have and it will tell you what you can make (paid).

I also always install the following apps – Root Explorer, System App remover and Set Xperia, but these are for rooted phones only.
