Here's Three's official video on it: http://youtu.be/DK6f2c2KEV0 - see how it's made by NEC like Three's flip phones back in 2003

I don't like that last bullet point at the bottom - I really hope they put these on general sale and not just use it as some sort of retentions tool.

I'm apparently not eligible one because I'm only on a 12 month sim only plan...Not a phone contract...

Damn, that'll be a no for me too then.

Perhaps retentions will be more sympathetic.

Retentions was not very helpful but he did say something about them being available on March 8th to more customers.

Quite.

I think they should make it available to everyone.

I'd be interested in getting one.

The signal here really isn't very good.

I really fancy one actually, but I get full bars of signal at home so no need although I strangely still want one. I guess there's no benefit if you already have a decent signal.

I find it very frustrating I cannot get one. Well Three can say goodbye to 6 lines as the whole of my family will be taking out full monty plans on T-Mobile as our contracts are coming to an end over the next month.

Why 3 don't offer this as a purchace option outwith the areas they deem it's needed is ridiculous.

If customers want one and are prepared to pay the cost then why shouldn't they be able to get one if they want to invest and support the network.

Absolutely bonkers ..........

Its because they're only trialing it with existing customers in certain areas at the moment. This is phase 1 of 3. They won't release it for all until Q2 2012 at the earliest

Wouldn't something like Orange's signal boost be a better option than these devices?

It depends orange`s system uses voip.Wheres a femtocell is like a mini mast in your house and any 3g phone will work with it straight out of the box with out any additional mucking about,

Do these use e Internet connection and if so, could you technically use them abroad as if you are in the uk? (ie use your inclusive minutes, texts etc)

Vodafone sometimes give the Sure Signal boxes free to contract customers if they moan enough. Also Vodafone does occasionally have issues with the service not working.

Usually these devices contain a GPS receiver to verify that the device is being used in the country it's licensed for - but the instructions on the site don't mention that.

Using one abroad would be a serious crime in whatever country you did that in.

GPS receivers indoors are pretty much useless unless you have it up at a window

I doubt anyone would go that amount of trouble when you could use an IP address. Its not a perfect solution and can be spoofed. But will any of the networks care enough?

If you use a VPN with its end point in the UK then yes it's perfectly possible.

Probably only useful for ex-pats though, who will be using VoIP solutions to call the UK on the cheap anyway.
