Home Signal Box
Quote:
I called Three yesterday evening & just got the usual runaround from them. First I called 333 explained that I have a new contract that reception is awful except right by a window (this is true) & that I wanted to have a Home Signal box. After taking all my details & putting me on hold several times he gave me an 0800 number to call which I did.
I called the 0800 number & the guy who answered assured me that it was toll free which I am still dubious about as I thought that 0800 numbers cost 15.3p/min. However the guy couldn't help me as this is apparently is the support number for people who already have a Home Signal box. He therefore put me through to yet another person who after taking all my details & putting me on hold several times me gave me an 0844 number to call for the Options Team. I asked why this was a paid call & why he couldn't just put me through but he said it was impossible. I called the 0844 number but discovered that I was in fact talking to regular Three telephone support but paying 15.3p/min for the privilege. After taking all my details & putting me on hold several times the lady said that she would put me through to the correct person to get a Home Signal box. After a couple of minutes on hold listening to music the line dropped & I was cut off. Perhaps someone who has been successful in getting a Home Signal box could tell me how they did it & who they spoke to. How did I get it? Just rang 3 and told them how poor my signal was in my house and how I could not use my phone. Went through a lot of questions like how long have I had a poor signal, why have I left it so long before complaining etc etc. The long and short of it all is you just have to push like mad and with a bit of luck like me you will get one(free to) As I've said really works very well and at last I can use all of my free minutes. Best of luck in your quest to get one. |

Just to advise sim only contract customers.Apprently three are now selling these for £80 according to a customer on another website.Seems a bit steep.I think i will wait for the Samsung galaxy s3 to come out then apply for one as being on a 24 month contract.
If you look at the bottom comment section http://wirelessworker.net/2012/03/th...nal-femtocell/ |

I have just go my Home Signal box up & running. Initially it would not work despite with an error code that was not in the user guide (red light flashing in bursts of five flashes). The problem turned out to be the SIM card in the slot underneath was not seated properly. After pushing in the SIM (used for encryption apparently) & a few minutes wait I now have good signal around the house. I haven't paid any attention to placement of the device for maximum coverage as I have 2-3 bars in every corner of our large old stone farmhouse.
The system for registering extra phones is a bit of a joke as unlike Vodafone's Smart Signal where you can interactively add/remove phone numbers you cannot do this yourself but need to contact 333 or fill in an online form with a promised 24 hour turnaround. |

It's not on general sale at the moment. They say it will be later, but at the moment it's being given to people with signal difficulties on a case by case basis.
I should imagine they need to iron out bugs and get internal processes and support in place before it can go on general release, that requires training and lots of back end stuff to be done. Don't think I'm going to be eligible at the moment because I am on a rolling 1 month sim only contract, and from what I can tell its only normal contract customers who are being offered it. I don't care if they expect me to pay for it, that is fair enough considering I am not tied into a contract, but would like to have the option. |

That really sucks, I left Three in 2005 cos they are just a nightmare with customer service and where I live now there is no Three signal, now with Orange (Although not denying Three is a great network in the right areas).

I have been on the phone to 3 every week now for about 2 months regarding signal issues. The last call was last night when 3 called me to ask how the signal issue was. Apparently the mast nearest my home location has had an upgrade. Well, the signal strength is still one bar inside the house at the back and no bars when in the front of the house. Internet access is really slow to connect to websites/fb/email etc.
Three are calling back again tomorrow to see how I'm getting on. I'll persevere until they agree to send me a Home Signal Box. I have tried hinting to get a HSB but they are not biting yet! I'll keep updating as and when... |

Any news on when this will be available? I've just got a One X with Three and although the coverage maps claims good indoor/outdoor coverage im lucky to get one bar (-101dbm) in doors.
I'm going to try going the twitter router as I dont fancy arguing with call centres |

Had yet another callback from 3 yesterday. Same old, same old! Parting shot was if, after yet another week when they call (and it's still the same) they have other options which they are going to pull out the hat!

Well - I've started the ball rolling. Called up three - said I was having problems with reception. They took a fault report and have escalated it to the network team who apparently will call me back within 48hours. We will see if they hold true to their word.
I did not mention the home signal box as most people seem to think its only 2nd line that can authorise it anyway. |

I posted on the Three blog about the total runaround that I got being pushed from pillar to post when I called 333 & asked for a Home Signal box. They arranged for someone to call me which got it all sorted. I have also heard of people contacting them via Twitter. In both cases (blog & Twitter) you are dealing with UK based personnel.

That's odd that they weren't more helpful. I live in Norfolk (NR12 between Norwich & Wroxham) & I got a Home Signal after I requested one. I also recently cancelled another Three SIM-only deal & after I told them that I was leaving because I was moving to another area of Norfolk (Lyng famous broadband & mobile not-spot) with no Three signal they rang & begged me to stay & offered me a Home Signal.

Can you tell me which blog you replied to? Got my call back but apparently Im not eligible because I've just taken out a contract? You would think as I have 23 months to go now would be the best time to get one!

You have a contractual obligation to keep paying them. They don't need to do anything to keep you as a customer!

I had a bit of a struggle, but I have managed to get Three to send me a HomeSignal box. It will arrive tomorrow. It had to get escalated to complaints before they did, but I had a fantastic network support guy (yes he was in India) who volunteered to escalate it and fought my corner with the other deparments to get it through. Does anyone know if the Three version registers on IMEI or phone number though because I am always messng around swapping handsets.
The favourite excuse seems to be that its not available in your area or if its a longterm well known network issue and they only give it when things change unexpectedly. But this seems to be a bit of a bluff, because they are able to configure any area they want it seems when pushed. This is the second time I have hit Three beaurocracy but found that some of the guys in the call centre in India are truly superb. The previous occasion was I found they have a rediculous roaming cap for new Three customers (50 pounds) which was hopeless when roaming to Asia. He told me the max he could put it up to was 75 and apologised. After I hung up, he went and spoke to his supervisor and relevant credit department on his own back, and then called me back and told me it was now 150 pounds. He didn't need to do that, the computer had already "said no". This is unlike BT where I have never ever found a good person in the India call centre. |
